Bug reports and technical issues

The other explanation would be a Python exception. Make sure you have exceptions enabled.

Can you share that save? Then I could look for the reason directly.

That's odd, are you sure the update completed and you haven't installed any imcompatible modules?

Sure, although be warned it was played on revision 719 (I think?).

edit: Oops, in my attempts to fix my XML errors, I deleted my "beyond the sword" file with all my saves. Incredibly sorry!

As for the XML errors, no, I haven't touched any files. I played a session of the game, updated to the newest SVN, went to bed, came home from classes the next day, and suddenly I'm met with XML errors. The only thing I can think of besides it not updating properly is that my hard disk is going bad, but considering I've had this rig for only 8 months, I'm optimistically ruling that out.

OK, I don't get it any more.

After deleting EVERYTHING I could find that had to do with Civilization 4: Beyond the Sword, redownloading RFC Dawn of Civilization, and updating to revision 719, I was able to start the game.

Unfortunately, when I start the game, a blank "Technology Advisor" screen pops up, and after clicking past this, I have no HUD, and there are no preplaced cities etc in the world. :twitch:

Okay that IS weird. Can someone else confirm that 719 or 720 runs for them?

Do you have Python exceptions enabled (they're off by default after a new installation)? An early error or is the likeliest reason for this behavior.

Nevermind, I finally have the game working. And to tell you the truth, I really don't have the dimmest idea what I did to fix it. Apparently I had to redownload the game and reinstall it; the problem is, I already had done that. I just tried it again out of blind hope.

Thanks for the effort anyways.

Good to hear.

It's a Python exception. In another game (American start 1700 SVN M/M) I've tried to switch to another civ by alt+z and I've got these.

When the Seljuks take the Apostolic palace (it waas built in persepolis) game crashes.

Reproducible CTD on the next turn :badcomp:

From a 3000BC Phoenician start: The game won't register me passing the historical goal of building the Great Cothon and a Palace in Carthage by turn 120. On multiple attempts. No ticks appear in the goal menu, and from 121 it's always "not passed". Is that because I've built Carthage in this location?

Or, I also built my capital, Kition, initially on the copper island west of Sur, which I didn't build: is that the reason?

The Carthage position is wrong. When a goal refers to a city it checks the city that stands on the right the position and not the name. You can settle Cathrage in the right position rename it into Babylon and still win the first phoenician goal.

In a polish game Indians respawned. Then they bet me at discovering Liberalism in 1480AD, which is a little strange, and in the WB I realised that they had discovered rifling in 1480AD! I don't know if this is due to a bug, or wrong modifiers, but Indians should be too backyard at that time, they shouldn't know Gunpowder.

I imagine that Indian subcontinent is too rich, so tech leading Indians is something logical. Moreover, Indian capital, Patna, has two shrines. So inevitably a respawned India in 600AD scenario has a very strong economy and a good research rate, it would be better not to respawn at all. Respawned Tamils would be better, if you want to have a premughal civilisation in India.
