Narz' question list reminded me of something I saw on the way home yesterday, a regular-sized bumpersticker on a fairly average Toyota sedan (driven by what appeared to be a middle-aged female) that read:
SOMEONE I LOVE WAS MURDERED!

Now I understand grieving for a loved one, obviously, and I know that there's usually a point to putting a bumpersticker on a car - you either want to show people that something you belong to is popular, or make people laugh, or communicate/repeat a meme. This one, I don't get at all, and frankly can't even figure out what the mindset would be of someone that wanted to communicate that to the driving public.

Are they saying that murder is bad? That we should be careful not to murder people because it makes their loved ones sad/angry? That we should give this car a wide berth because the driver might be unstable or suicidal? That we should force the car off a tall bridge or something to put the driver out of her misery?

What could possibly motivate someone to stick that on their bumper, and more scary still, where does one get a bumpersticker like that in the first place? Are they mass-produced somewhere? :scared:

i believe this is a sort of sophisticated slogan.

it makes a few points:
A- people get murdered.
B- it might happen to people like you and your family.
C- murder is bad.
D- it happens not only to gansters and criminals, but to Joe Public aswell.

it has that extra shock value, bringing it home that violence knows no boundaries, and that it can hapen to you too.

very good copyrighting too :D

i would give the one to come up with it a raise :goodjob:

Igloodude: you've already shown what it does: It makes people think why does this person put this bumpersticker on a car ? Where do you buy those stickers ? Are they mass-produced ?

And if you ever find the answers to the question it should make you think again. "Oh they are mass-produced in Waco, Texas - must be anti-Government" or "Oh they are mass-produced by the pro-life groups - must be anti-abortion" or "Oh they are from the group that is against the death-penalty" etc.

Okay, I started googling it (found this nice pic)

Meh. I guess what I take from it is "The owner of the vehicle has come to the realization that murder is bad."

WHe I first saw it I thought they were talking about Jesus...I guess that's because most bumperstickers I see are either funny, anti-bush, or about Christ...

Its a pretty pointless sticker if you ask me.

Does a bumper-sticker absolutely need a point ??

After doing some research on the net I found that this sticker most likely is on a car of someone that has lost a child to homocide (sp) / murder. For them putting this bumper-sticker on their car might be very therapeutic. Who am I (and who are you) to deny them that ??

Seems to me that the purpose of the bumper sticker is to remind people that all victims of violence are loved by someone. So next time we think of committing violence, we should think of our own loved ones, and how much it would hurt us to have them harmed.

Or in other words, "murder is bad". ;)

I think the owner had an abortion and now feels remorse about it. *DUCKS*

I have noticed around here (Southern California) that many cars now sport the white decals in the rear window that say something like:

In loving memory
Jules "Spike" Smith
1978 - 2006

What's up with these? Is this a new trend anywhere else? Do they hand these out at the funeral?

Oh dear god. If there was ever justifiable reason for road rage, that would be it.

Is this turning into a general bumper sticker thread? If so, I'd like to get some feedback on a bumper sticker that I've always considered making, but just never got around to it.

You know those union bumper stickers where they have the name of whatever local they are members of? Well, I've always considered getting one that says...

Proud NOT to be Union!
I earn my money!

I figure my tires would be slashed within a week...

And I thought it wold have been devout christian refering to Jesus :mischief:

Humourous ones are ok, as it's nice if you can make someone smile.
All the others, blah.

I want a bumper sticker like that, but my Father would probably slash my tires. Its worse across the Mississippi. :(

There are two bumperstickers I would like to have (since this has turned into a general bumpersticker thread):

If you can read this, you can be charged with vehicular sodomy.

and

HANG UP AND DRIVE
