Is this law an infringement on human rights?

We let them get away with it, if the population really cared the government wouldn't get away with it. Look at Berlusconi, he can do anything he wants and people still vote for him.

Not much I imagine. Vote for the boring guy who has sound morals? I doubt that would work either because power corrupts.
Perhaps if the government were forced to put their money "into" the country's economy and then they only made money if the country did it might help. But how could that be organized?

Communism doesn't work because it is a perfect ideal but man is not perfect, and some will always be more "equal than others"

Indeed. And so Marx sent his disciple Lenin, who died for our sins. But soon the day of judgement as prophesied in the Book of Revolution will come. Lenin will return to establish his communist state on Earth, as summarised in the Novgorodian Creed: "He will come again in Friendship to judge the living and the dead, and his soviet will have no end", and those who believe will be saved.

:D
Because Lenin's Russia was idyllic

That doesn't work. For one thing, in some countries, you CAN'T commit apostasy from Islam, otherwise, they don't send ya to France (Which is a punishment anyway:p), they slit your throat, in other words, they execute you. So people who were born Muslim in those countries... they have no real choice in what they want to be.

Not letting people who are pro-terrorism, if there's any way to figure out who does and who doesn't, is a good idea though.

I dunno. My mother-in-law is a Muslim apostate and is quite alive and well, despite being known as a Christian by everyone she once went to mosque with. She's also been back to Lebanon without any legal incident (her family was horrified).

I don't know anything about Lebanon. I'm sure visitors are treated differently, and even still, Lebanon might not persecute apostates. Not ALL Muslim countries do that. But many do, including Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Her mosque was made up almost entirely of Iranians. People were hurt, sure, but no one moved to stop her.

I've always imagined that Iranians were a rather liberal and western oriented people, they just had reactionary leaders.

Man, Sarkozy is really really... REALLY pandering to the baser instincts of French politics. Let me guess, his poll numbers have been down for awhile now.

Wasn't Iran one of the most liberal middle eastern societies before the revolution? I know a few Iranians and that is what they told me.

Oh this was supported by like 80% of the country or something.

It's not quite so simple, since Iran isn't a homogeneous country, but that would be a workable interpretation, yes.

I was talking about their governments, not the common citizens. That's what you aren't understanding.

Oh I understood  My point was apostasy laws aren't some hard fast rule that must be applied in a specific way if you are a devout muslim. Plenty of devout muslims take a liberal approach to apostasy and never once feel like they're the ones who are "wrong"

I said in some countries they slit your throat, which is true, meaning some people couldn't change their religion from Islam even if they wanted to. That was my point. Not that every serious Muslim in the world would do that

The BNP used to (and still does) pander to racists, via overtly anti-asian and anti-black policies. Hell, it's leader was/is a holocaust denier. They have since moved on to anti-muslim/islamic views and found some success with that. Take from that what you will...

Ban it where identification is important. Religion should never be above the law.
