[RD] Butlerian Jihad.

Some, yes. But there is a compounding effect of small communities, exercise, relative lack of intoxicants. Knots aren't hard to tie, shotguns work fine for discussed effect.

Was really hoping Mouthwash would leave the forum, but he is still posting. :(

This thread is like a one-man brexit.

Moderator Action: You may think this all you like, but saying out loud in the forum is flaming. Don't do it. It's an infraction. --LM

Disappointed that no one seems to want to discuss the thread I linked to. It's one of those few things that can transform someone's entire worldview.

If one's worldview can be transformed by a twitter thread, overturning (for me at least) two and a half decades of my own observations and learning, then that twitter thread had better be posted by the Archangel Michael accompanied by the sounds of celestial trumpets.

It was pretty interesting. I ignored it when you posted it because it was twitter. Urban planning and place making is a great topic. How would you begin the discussion?

I thought it was cool.

Infraction for PDMA
Apparently just re-stating the forum rules is now PDMA.

Isn't that a bit like saying that quoting laws is equivalent to criticising the police force?

Oh no I just committed PDMA!!!

Moderator Action: Yes you did. --LM

I liked it. It reminded me of Jane Jacobs and her book "The Death and Life of Great American Cities." There has been improvement in urban planning to make it more organic-feeling, like modern versions of the towns in the thread. Though also things like the extreme monotony of new apartment buildings can be disheartening.

And I dunno if you need the encouragement, but I strongly disagree with the post by açaimonkey or whatever it is.

Well, it might not work with someone who already has developed some views on urbanism. But for the majority of people who often take as a given that modern is better, it really can be revelatory.

I'm not a great conversation-starter, honestly. I was hoping that someone more knowledgeable on the subject might offer some insights. :)

Also, just wanted to show what an anti-modern world might actually be like, rather than critique what I hate.

It is becoming clear to me that having a productive or healthy life is not compatible with the use of technologies like computers, smartphones, cars, and the general overdesign of modern habitation.

It's definitely possible, it's a matter of balance. Don't throw out your phone necessarily - but do not spend 24/7 on it either.
