Bz2 - 5CC Overdrive

Back to the 4 Cities of the Ottomen.
IBT- Just a note. Since it appears we wont be building our 5th city, but capturing it, may I sugest. Xochicalco (would need a rename). 6 bonus grassland, game and some forest.
T1: I enque Temple followed by Rax in all the non capitol cities. Incense will start being roaded next turn. I kick lux up to 20% and remind myself to lower it when the incense road is done.
T2: Just a question: who has the warriors on Auto Go?
T3: ZZZ
T4: Istanbul builds our first of (what will be) many swords. Edrine finishes temple, starts Rax. I keep the sword in Istanbul. This may serve as a center point for the war. Incense is hooked up and I lower lux back down to 10%. The Zulu have a COL monopoly and they want 220g and a WM. I hold off on it for now.
T5: Im going to begin Irrigating down to the deserts in Iznik.
T6: Bursa builds temple, starts on Rax. Hmm... being able to irrigate down means cutting down one patch of the National Forest of Istanbul.
T7: Istanbul builds another swordsman. Zulus now have Philo too. For a WM and 278g, we can get both. I do the trade. I sell X-Man COL for 70g and his WM.
T8: A note- there are 4 more turns in chopping down the 1st (and only) needed forest to irrigate to Iznik. This action is vetoable by the next player. Edrine's culture expands, allowing us access to the HORSES. Also, the culture of Xochicalco expands, meaning we may not need to raize it. The wandering warriors are returning home.
T9: Edrine builds Rax. Iznik builds temple. I start work on a sword in Edrine, but we could do some wonder building. Is this going to be a Military or Culture 5CC? Or perhaps something like RBP8? (Conquer one civ, then go cultural). I upgrade 2 warriors in Edrine for 80g. Our sword force now consists of 2 vet and 2 reg swords.
T10: LIT IS FOR SALE. The Zulu actually took the time to research it. I quickly buy it for 110g and 1gpt. Now, a question. We possess Literature. Are we building the GL? It would take 45 (Edrine) and 38 (Istanbul) turns (Istanbul would need to be changed before hitting enter). So? Are we? So that wraps it up here. 3 new techs. A couple swords. Treasury is 73g and 21gpt.

I had the warriors on Auto Go. They are going back to homeland. Since the entire map is discovered they have no use in exploration any more. Back home they can be upgraded to swords.

Also, I do not think we should go for a wonder build. If it takes 38 turns to build the wonder, we can build more than 10 swords in that turn. 10 swords can get a wonder for us :hammer:

But I say this because I am the congenital warmonger (Peaceful Americans notwithstanding :)). If the group wants to go the cultural way I am good with that too. But will that not be more difficult?

OK, I got it, but I'm up in another SG, so I'll get to this tomorrow. I think that we should go for a quick war with the Aztecs, set their progress back by a bit, then hunker down and go for space, and the GL will aid us in that. I like space, having not done that since the Warlord game where I was all alone until Astronomy... Lemme just say this, the Great Library kicks ass :lol:.

Hi everyone,

The reports for Epic 29 are in and I thought you all might want to take a look, since it was a 5CC also. It was a monarch game with a variant scoring system, but it's interesting in that everyone (so far) managed a spaceship win. Things are a bit different here since we are playing Emperor and we have a standard sized map.

You'll also notice that I got my butt kicked by the other players... Hopefully I'll do better here! :cry:

Here is the link:

Epic 29 Reports

I shadowed 29. Not done yet, only up to Middle Ages, but I'm doing well so far. 31 is my first actual submission.
But as for 29 being an example of a 5cc, I wouldnt treat it so highly as an utmost example. More of a variant (aduh) which if youre not following why, dont try it at home

I agree that it's not a perfect example - in fact our game will almost certainly end up playing out much differently. It's just an example that I thought the others might enjoy!

Good luck on your turn Tsuk! :goodjob:

This game was going at a nice pace. Why did it slow down? Tsuke are you going to play sometime today? :confused:

I've played, but I couldn't post yesterday because of forums being down. I'll post once I get home from work.

Crap. I must work overtime today, and probably tomorrow. I don't want to hold this game up any longer. Sorry :(. Skip me.

Have we built enough swords to attack the Aztecs yet?

I think we should found our fifth and final city one tile NE of the ruins of Xochicalco.

Which path to victory are we leaning towards. We need to make a decison pretty soon. I think a conquest victory will be easiest, but maybe that is because most of my victories have been by conquest. :D

Tsuk - Space
Earp - Conquest
Others - ?

Same here. A Conquest will be easiest for me too. :D Cultural IMHO is more difficult and a Space Race drags the game forever.

We have horses and iron within our borders.

So it sounds like everyone is ready for a conquest. This should be fun. We are going to need to do lots of planning.

Pre turn 1025 B.C. Things are pretty much in order. I switch Edrine to kick out a quick worker before it’s next sword. Sorry about the veto, but there were no shields in the sword yet and I just felt that we needed a few more workers. We are either ahead or even with EVERYONE on tech! I’m so impressed guys, that’s really good for emperor. :goodjob: In answer to Earp’s question, we have 3 swords so far, so I should be getting our city about the end of my turn or the beginning of the next. I won’t build the GL, as per our discussions.

BT – Istanbul builds sword, starts sword. Salamanca finished the Oracle.

Turn 1 – 1000 B.C. A worker was roading a hill near Bursa, but with cultural expansion Bursa pulls in another BG so I go there instead of mining that hill. I am congregating all our swords in Edrine, preparing for the attack. We’ll need a settler too… No trades to be made. My realization that we need a settler causes me to change Edrine from that worker to the Settler.

BT – Zulu and Aztecs are at war! :hammer: Lots of Great Libraries started.

Turn 2 – 975 B.C. I move the 2 workers near Edrine south to hook up horses.

BT – Two zulu warriors are heading towards Bursa! That could really screw up our plans.

Turn 3 – 950 B.C. Bursa still has 5 turns on a barracks… I consider switching it to a spear to repel the attack, but I’ve got one more turn to make that decision. Actually, I don’t. Argh. I won’t lose any shields on the barracks if I switch it now. I think the Zulu are probably going after the Aztecs though, so I don’t switch. The worker clearing the forest to get irrigation reveals a BG, but I irrigate it to get water to Iznik.

BT – Zulu go the other way. :nya: Edrine finished settler, starts sword. Iznik’s culture expands, pulling in second cattle.

Turn 4 – 925 B.C. MM Iznik to grow in 1 turn instead of 2. The AI’s have caught up some in tech, but we are still at parity or ahead.

Turn 5 – 900 B.C. Everyone is at parity.

BT Istanbul builds sword, starts sword.

Turn 6 – 875 B.C. Horses are hooked up, but I continue to build swords. We are close to ready, with 6 swords available. :hammer:

BT Bursa builds barracks, starts horse.

Turn 7 – 850 B.C. I’m going to start building some horses that we can later upgrade to knights and then Siphai. Everyone is still at parity.

BT – The Arabs demand a tribute. :mad: They are very far away so I consider rebuffing them, but they don’t want much and I think it’s better to keep focused on attacking the Aztecs. I give in. Zimbabwe completes GL – That was way fast!

Turn 8 – 825 B.C. The AI’s pull in technologies. Aztecs have Currency. Iroquois have Construction. That’s it. Hmmm… I MIGHT be able to get a two for one, but it will involve buying one of those techs @ 2nd civ. I don’t think I should do that. In fact, I can’t – neither one of them will sell to me. Maybe we could extort the tech from the Aztecs?

BT – Edrine builds sword, starts sword. Istanbul builds sword, starts spear (we will need some defenders to survive the counterattack.

Turn 9 – 800 B.C. Nothing of note. We will be able to kick off the war almost immediately next turn. I move two of our workers towards Xochicalco to build a road towards the city. The Aztecs are still up only Currency, and the Iroquois just Construction. I move 7 swords and the settler out of Edrine to start the war.

BT – Iznik finished Barracks, starts worker. It has lots of food with the 2 cows but no aquaduct, so workers should come from here.

Turn 10 – 775 B.C. The attack is started. I totally spaced out on upgrading existing warriors to swords. I’m sorry. Total weed. :smoke: It shouldn’t have hurt us too much – we will need some of those swords for homeland defense anyway. Tech situation hasn’t changed.

Summary: I think I did well, except for not upgrading. No trade opportunities became available. The attack towards Xochicalco is on it’s way, and consists of 8 swordsmen (one of which was very confusingly named warrior1????) and a settler. I’ll post a map. Good luck!

Also, we got off by a turn somewhere, but I didn’t correct the problem.

Here you can see the Aztec stack. We should also consider establishing some embassies after we upgrade our warriors. We are still doing well on tech - Two civs have one more tech than we do but we can't afford it @ 2nd civ anyway.

OK, I put in some good solid hours of work. I'm sorry about letting you down earlier :(. Hopefully, I'll be available later. I wish we were doing something else for victory (too much :hammer: already), but TSK02 will be a builder game by definition, so I will be happy with that :).

0 - 775 BC
The Aztecs are up currency and the Iroquois are up Construction. Both techs are too expensive for us.

IBT Abe demands 28G and our TM. I decline and he backs down.

1 - 750 BC
Istanbul Spear --> Horse
Change Edrine from Sword to Sword
MM Edrine to produce Horse next turn
Several civs now have Currency and Construction

2 - 730 BC
Iznik Worker --> Horse
Bursa Horse --> Horse
Edrine Horse --> Horse
I establish an embassy with the Zulu to see if they will give us a discount if we join in their war against the Aztecs.
Zimbabwe - Only improvements are Palace and Great Library. 14 spt, 16fpt, 16gpt. Science set at 80% even though they have the GL. Silly AI. :)
Currency and Construction seem too expensive even with the Alliance discount. Some civs have Curr, but not Const, but Shaka wants 13 gpt and 110 g for Construction even with the alliance. This would lock us into the war for at least 20 turns. Currency is 6gpt and 100g w/ the alliance. I decide not to make any deals with Shaka at this point.
Declare war on the Aztecs.

IBT I think the Aztecs are fighting the Iroquois as well.
Babylon finishes the Great Pyramids

3 - 710 BC
Xochicalco falls to our first vet Sword and is razed. It was defended by one spear and an archer that left to go north to attack an Iroquois?
The great coastal town of Uskudar is founded.

IBT Persepolis finished the Great Wall

4 - 690 BC
Istanbul Sword --> Worker
Edrine Horse --> Horse

IBT The Babylonians are moving a stack of troops towards Edrine.

5 - 670 BC
Istanbul Worker --> Sword
Tlaxcala is razed.

IBT The Aztecs contact us and want to talk Peace. They would not acknowledge my envoy last turn. They will give us everything they have for peace. Currency, 13 G, and WM. I do not think we will be able to squeeze much more out of them at this time, and I am worried about the Babylonians approaching in the South. They are fighting with at least one other civ and we do not gain much by prolonging this war at this time. We sign a Peace Treaty.

6 - 650 BC
I give Babylon currency for a worker.
Abe has Monarchy, but it is too expensive.

IBT Persia demands TM and 29G. We decline and they declare war on us.
Baghdad finishes the Colossus

7 - 630 BC
Edrine Horse --> Library
Bursa Horse --> Library
We tell Babylon to leave or declare war and they declare war.
Happiness goes through the roof and I turn off the slider.
Change Istanbul and Iznik to Library. I think we may want to start researching soon.

8 - 610 BC
Kill some Babylonians marching through our empire.

IBT The first Persian archers appear.

9 - 590 BC
Istanbul Library --> Horse
Iznik Library --> Horse

10 - 570 BC
Join worker to Uskadar

We are at war with Persia and Babylon. We are behind in techs, but our 3rd and 4th libraries will be done soon. Maybe we can pointy stick research some techs from the Babylonians?
