Bz2 - 5CC Overdrive

Got it. So finally it happened. I am up on three SGs at the same time. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day. ;)

Looks like I waited far too long to go get our 5th city. Sorry about that. By the way, how come you decided to antagonize the AI so much? Were those Babylonians really hurting anything by being in our empire? Is 26 gold and a terrotory map worth a war right now? I'm just curious, I wouldn't have made those decisions. What if the Persians have Immortals?

I'm not trying to criticize, I'm just trying to understand your thought process. That's what SG's are about - seeing other types of play styles!

My reasoning behind not giving in to America or Persia's demands is because they are on the other side of the world and I did not percieve them as much of a threat. It will take them many turns to move their troops to our side of the world. I probably would have given in to a demand from the Zulus. We should probably build some spears to send to our eastern most city to help defend it in case some Immortals show up.

Babylon had close to ten warriors/bowman in our territory, and they were fortifying the troops on a mountain next to Edrine. They were obviously preparing to attack us. I forced them to declare war when most of their troops were still in the open and easily slaughtered.

Ahh that makes more sense. Sorry not all that was clear from your report. I thought there were only one or two Babylonian units, not a whole bunch. Good call. You're right about the Persians too - they are small and far away. Hopefully we'll never see an immortal. :scan:

@bz
Now you know what it was like being me .
@rest
If you see even one Immortal, sign peace. We have 5 cities and the best defense we can get is a spear. I don't want to be going up against the equivalent of cheap MDIs with spears. They are easily the most scary UU. Apart from our Sipahi, of couse :).

530 BC: Edrine Library -> Sword. Raze Akkad. Lose a horse in the process. Kill a Bab Bowman, reg sword -> vet.

IT: Iro and Zulu sign a MA against Monty.

510 BC: Move forces towards Ur.

IT: I see Bab bowmen coming towards me.

490 BC: Move forces.

470 BC: Kill 3 bab Bows. Lose a horse to a Bab spear. But that is good. No GA for HAmmi.

IT: Hiwa tries to extort me. I tell him to take a hike. he backs down.

450 BC: I see what Hammi will give for peace. He will give just
Construction. Yeah Right? Here goes.

Raze Ur without a loss. Now what Hammi? He will give me Republic, Construction and 40G for Peace. Much better. I tell him that I will let him live for now and accept his offerrings. We enter a new age. :) We also learn Monotheism. We sell that to Iro. we get Engineering, Monarchy and WM and 12G for it from him. :)

I see a decent Persian force coming towards our eastern city. So we form a capital in Mecca. Sign the beard to a MA against Xerxes. We give Abu Mono for that. He is polite now.

IT: the persian force moves away apart from a lone archer.

430 BC: We kill the lone Persian archer. We revolt.

IT: Iro and Arabia sign a MA against Persia.

450 - 350 BC: Still Revolting.

No new techs on the scene. In fact we are up two techs on Abe and one tech on a few others.

Here is the save.

In short we :hammer: Hammi a bit and learned 5 techs and are closer to Republic and Xerxes is on the backfoot. Let me know if I could have done any better or if I did any :smoke:

Seems pretty good to me. I'm glad the Iroquios backed down - Mounted Warriors wouldn't have been fun either.

What are we planning on revolting to? If we'll be doing heavy-duty warmongering in the near future, then we want to be a Monarchy.

I would say we revolt to Republic. It is so much better than Monarchy. We can always manage short sweet wars without much WW. Also if we have to raise lux tax it will not cost us much considering we will never have more than 60 citizens for a long long time.

I agree with betazed. I think we should revolt to Republic. I am not that worried about WW and Republic is much better than Monarchy.

betazed, your turns look good to me. I am going to look at the save.

Here are some comments after looking at the save.

I think you played a very good set of turns. The alliance with Abu Bakr was a very good idea. We will not have to worry about seeing any Immortals. I am surprised to see how great we are doing with techs. When are we going to turn back on research?

I think we should concentrate on infrastructure for awhile before we build any more military. We have 12 swordsmen and 7 horsemen. When building military, I think we should concentrate on building horsemen from now on instead of swordsmen. With only five cities, I think the extra movement will be extremely valuable to us. Not to mention that they upgrade to knights and Sipahi.

Bursa and Iznik are in dire need of aqueducts. Uskudar will need one also. I would switch Bursa and Iznik's productions asap.

Who do we want to attack next and when? We only have 4 turns of peace left with the Aztecs. They are still the top civ and their dyes and gems look like attractive sites for colonies, but how do we keep other civs from founding cities next to our colonies? I do not see any point in sending troops all the way to Persia.

Yes I agree with Earp. After that fruitful war a consolidation is in order.

Aztecs should be our next target. There is a miniature dogpile on the Aztecs already by Iro and Zulu. If we jump in we can do some heavy duty targeted damage with little loss.

Will be able to hold on to this tech lead with just 5 cities? Some 5CC vets can answer this.

Don't expect to be a tech leader.
You simply don't have enough income later in the game.

The name of the game with 5CC is to buy tech cheap. Research only become viable after hospitals and some dead civs.

With the creation of knights and Sipahi, we'll be able to drive into enemy territory and destroy them quickly. Pointy stick research!
And just because we don't have a hope of tech lead doesn't mean we shouldn't build libraries and universities. They are our easiest way of aquiring culture and will help us when we turn on research.

I agree on the libraries and universities. I think we already have libraries in our first four cities, and we currently lack education to build universities.

With only five cities, it is very important and easy to MM each city every turn.

In my Epic 29 5CC game, I was able to do research on my own all the way until I launched my spaceship. That was Monarch, and a small map, however, so I agree that we won't be able to keep up for long with these settings.

Should I declare peace w/ the Persians?

Edit- we didnt, and heres the report

BZ2 5CC: Infastructure Time
Okay. So we are revolting and we need infastructure. I change Bursa and Iznik to Aqueducts before T1.
T1: We end our revolting and become the 5 City Republic of the Ottomen. Washington builds Hanging Gardens. All our cities are building stuff, not units.
T2: Nada. Zulu take an Aztec city.
T3: Nil
T4: MMing but Nada
T5: Uskudar: Temple->Rax
T6: Istanbul: Market->Horseman (for Knight upgrades). Persians start Sun Tzu. Zulu and Persians both have Feud. It would cost us 500g, and I dont buy it.
T7: Zulu start Sun Tuz. Nada
T8: Nothing
T9: Istanbul: Horse->Horse. Irq start Sun Tuz. Uskudar's culture expands, grabing us all but the top 2 tiles (one being the Iron).
T10: To the next player: Peace is affordable with Persia. They will give us a couple bits of gold. I didnt make peace because I was not sure if we wanted it yet. IBT- Zulu raise an Aztec city. Arabia demands 53g and TM. They're bigger, closer and have a UU comming up. I cave. Iznik: Aqueduct->Horseman. Arabs start Sun Tuz and the Babs.
Unit production is starting up again, with the Bursian Aqueduct due next turn. Knights will be available soon.

The Save

I'd say we honor our MA with Arabia.

Agree with Tsuke. We should honor our agreement because we will need to make this agreement later. If we do not honor it now then we may have problems later signing MAs. Plus Persia is no threat to us at all.
