Bz2 - 5CC Overdrive

@Tsuke : You are up. Play carefully. If you have any doubts at any point do not hesitate to stop and ask. :)

Whoops :blush:. I'll try to play @ 11:30 AM EST and post during my lunch break.

Wow that forum crash was fun. Let's do it again!

IT: I check diplo. Several civs have Feudalism. Hiawatha has best price. I hold off on trading in hopes prices will go down. I MM Istanbul to pull in an extra commerce. 13 spt doesn’t do more than 12 spt.

1. Persia signs MA with Abe against us. Abe is even less of a threat than X-Man. Erdrine market->courthouse. Bursa aqueduct->granary. Bursa is pulling in 10 spt after waste.

2. Istanbul Horse->Horse. Uskudar Barracks->Library

3. Iznik Horse->Granary. Persia is building Sun Tzu’s. I’ll wait for the MA with Arabia to expire and then get it in peace concessions.

4. –

5. Shaka demands TM and 60g. Take it you *******. For some reason, our people love this and want to expand our palace. You masochistic, cynical freaks. America starts Sun Tzu’s. I raise lux to prevent a riot at Erdrine.

6. Istanbul Horse->Horse. The chop revealed another BG [dance]. I dial X-Man up for peace and find that… He wants US to pay HIM?!? Not on your life buster (which it is)! WM + 406g to Hiawatha for Feudalism. We’re at parity and up Monotheism and Feudalism on Aztecs. I upgrade our spears to pikes for 60g.

7. Some American troops show up near Bursa. Two archers. When they get into range send out two horsies to kill them.

8. Erdrine Courthouse->Colosseum.

9. Abu and Shaka sign an MA to go put the hurt on the Aztecs. I vote we jump on the bandwagon at Chivalry. We could even research Chivalry ourselves. Istanbul Horse->Horse. Bursa Granary->Market. Uskudar Library->Harbor.

And here 'tis

EDIT: Snaproll, yer up.

You masochistic, cynical freaks.
:lol:

I see it, and I'm up in two so it might take me a little while to play. This is the most warlike 5CC I've ever played! :hammer:

I'll see what I can do about getting Chivalry and cleansing the Aztecs. I'm going to try and build as many horses as possible for upgrading (I haven't looked at the sav though so I'm not sure how feasible that is)

We have somewhere around 14 horses already. I also have 12 swords ready to be upgraded to MDI if necessary.

Sounds like all I need is to build up money.

I have some questions about 5CC conquest for you guys, though. It seems to me that once we start our conquesting ways, we need to finish everyone off, all at once. If not, the remaining civs will just fill in all the extra land that we liberate with more settlers. Am I wrong in this?

Can someone post links to some successful 5CC conquest games so we can see how those were accomplished? (Succession games or epic reports etc...?)

Turn 0 – 10 A.D. – Checking things out – a lot has changed from my last turn. We have no active or potential trades with anyone. We are at parity with everyone as mentioned. We “could” research Feudalism in 17 turns at –5 gpt – not worth it I don’t think. I’m going to use the money to upgrade knights when it becomes time. I don’t think we should be irrigating the deserts around Iznik yet – we can use mined hills and still get one food but 2 extra shields. Time to start irrigating some non-bonus grasslands now that we aren’t in despotism. Other than that things look really good! Like I said – going to use these turns to build some key improvements and build lots of horses for a mass knight upgrade. I also send our two elite swords sitting in Istanbul down to Bursa to do a little leader fishing.

BT – The stupid American archers jump on the mountain. Argh. Iznik Granary -> Worker.

Turn 1 - 30 A.D. – Istanbul really needs some irrigation so it can pull in its hills quicker. Nothing much else…

BT – Zulus are making some awful threatening moves… :o Iznik worker->worker

Turn 2 – 50 A.D. Moving workers to get irrigation to Bursa.

BT – Persians want 140 gold for peace… nah. :rolleyes: Istanbul Horseman->horseman. Iznik worker->market.

Turn 3 – 70 A.D. Uskudar is working on a harbor, but is already to excess food at size 6. I know we need trade routes, but getting an aqueduct there is a higher priority, I think. I switch it. I consider cash rushing it. It would cost half our treasury, but I think it’s worth it. We are making plenty of money, and the extra people will really help. 292 gold goes into the cash-rush.

BT – Zulus pillage the Aztec iron. Uskudar aqueduct->harbor.

Turn 4 – 90 A.D. Babylon, Zulu, Persians, pull in Invention. Aztecs are still two techs behind us, so I don’t “think” we need to worry about them having muskets when we upgrade our horses. The price is, of course, exorbitant :mad:

Turn 5 – 110 A.D. Our elite sword picks off a random American sword, no leader.

BT - Lots of American archers around. Istanbul horse->horse.

Turn 6 – 130 A.D. Not much really.

BT – Zulu and Babs sign a military alliance against Persia. Edrine Colosseum->horseman.

Turn 7 – 150 A.D. Very little. I realize we haven’t established all our embassies – establish with Babylon. Babylon has Pyramids, size 7, building MI. 0 gold. Aztecs – 3 entertainers in Tenochitlan, and it’s population is 5! :smoke: Salmanca – 26 turns from Sun Tzu. Size 8. Babylon gets theology this turn! So does Shaka, Xman, and Abu. Great so much for 2 for 1.

Turn 8 - 170 A.D. – Americans are mounting quite an archer attack. Fishing for leaders doesn’t work. Iroquois now have Theology but not Invention. Maybe I can work a 2 for 1. Invention from Abu Bakr for 17gpt and 432 gold. Invention to Iro for Theology and 3gpt. Still expensive, but worth it because it was a 2 for one. Cleans out the treasury though… not good for mass upgrade plans. This may have been :smoke:. Let me know.

BT – Pike BARELY defeats an attacking American horse. The Zulu have razed an Aztec city in the NW, which puts a second source of iron within our borders! :party: Now THAT’S a good way that we may be able to catch up in tech… Arabia and America sign against Persia – boy those Americans sure switched sides fast… :lol: Bursa builds market->horse. Istanbul horse->pike. Edrine horse->horse.

Turn 9 – 190 A.D. Persians and Americans will sign peace for no cost now. I go ahead and do it with the Persians, but I want to fish for leaders a bit more against the Americans. Persia is polite now! Fishing doesn’t work though. I sign peace. We are now totally at peace. The Zulu are really doing a number on the Aztecs. I was waiting for Chivalry to jump in, but now it looks like we should have pressed our advantage. I’ll leave it to the next player. Xerses is still down Theology, but all he will give for it is 40 gold. No deal.

BT – Persians finish Lighthouse.

Turn 10 – 210 A.D. No new trade opportunities. Wars are over.

Summary: Pretty uneventful set of turns. Built some city improvements and fished for a few leaders. The 2 for 1 deal was the biggest event – I hope that wasn’t :smoke:. Like I said, the Zulu are really handing it to the Aztecs, which is good in one sense in that it freed up that iron for us but bad in that the Zulu are going to be ultra powerful. Most cities are on horses, but Iznik is nearly done with a market, after which it should kick out some more workers. Uskudar is finishing a harbor next turn – be sure to check for trades. The workers in the desert are pulling irrigation towards Bursa – remember get the cities to size 12, then mine!!! Also, WATCH OUT for Uskudar – it will riot next turn! Fix this however you see fit – it should probably get a coliseum next. Also, we may be able to put a colony on the iron source just outside our borders to the south, giving us 3 sources. That would be really excellent.

Have fun! :goodjob:

IMHO, That 2-fer was not :smoke:. It is slightly on the expensive side but I guess that is to be expected in a 5CC at emperor. :)

Guys, I'm going away for a week, so skip me until July 6.

I've got it. I'll play tomorrow.

Snaproll, can you check the save? I think it is from the beginning of your turn. :confused:

Sell WM again to Iroquois for 1G and WM
Sell WM again to Zulus for 3G
Sell TM to Aztecs for their WM
Sell WM again to Zulus for 1G
Sell WM again to Arabia for 1G. I sold Abu Bakr our WM four times this turn :)
29 gold for our WM and 45 gold from Xerxes for Theology. 45 gold for Theology is cheap, but if we hadn't sold Theology to Persia, some else would have and they would have gained the 45 gold.
Hire a taxman in Uskudar to prevent riot mentioned above.
MM Iznik to get 2 more gold this turn
MM Edrine. IT was working an unroaded forest, which is 0gpt. The roaded forest on the river is 3 gpt.
We tell the Americans to leave

1 - 230 AD
Istanbul Pike --> Cathedral
Edrine Horse --> Cathedral
Uskudar Harbor --> Coliseum
Iznik Marketplace --> Cathedral
No trade opportunities. We must have built the first harbor.
We tell the Americans to leave again or declare war and they declare war.
Fire taxman in Uskudar.

2 - 250 AD
We lose a horseman attacking an American archer on a mountain
Sell WM to Babylon for WM and 6 gold
Sell WM to Iroquois for 2G
Sell WM to Zululand for 1G
Sell WM to Persia for WM and 10 gold
Sell WM to Arabia for 1G
Sell WM to Zululand again for 1G
Sell WM to Iroquois again for 1G

3 - 260AD
sell WM

4 - 270 AD
sell WM

5 - 280 AD
We complete a road to Zululand. Shaka refuses to give us 1 gpt for our incense, but will empty his treasury and give us WM, 26G, and Dyes. Does this sound normal, or did we break a deal at some point? We make the trade. We need to :hammer: Zulu pretty soon, but I think it will be more than twenty turns from now.
Reduce lux slider to 10%

IBT Persia and Arabia sign peace

6 - 290 AD
sell WM

7 - 300 AD
Hammurabi and Abu Bakr have education. Neither of them had it last turn. I can tell that Hammi sold it to Abu by the change in their bank accounts.
Arabia wants less than Babylon for Education, but I do not think we need it immediately, and we might be able to buy it for less at fourth or fifth civ price. No two for ones are available right now.

IBT The Iroquois want us to ally against the Persians. This will break our peace treaty so we decline.

8 - 310 AD
Sell WM
The Zulu now have education

IBT The Aztecs want us to ally against the Arabs. No thanks.

9 - 320 AD
Sell WM
America finally acknowledges our envoy. They have education. They might have the best price if we grant them peace in the deal.

IBT Persia and Zulus sign a peace accord

10 - 330 AD
Istanbul Cathedral --> Horse

Edrine is at size 12 and should build a worker after the cathedral.

The Save

330 AD:

IT: America wants PT. But does not want to give anything in return. I tell Abe to buzz off. Zulus and Aztecs sign peace.

340 AD: Edrine Cathedral -> Worker. Iznik starts a horse. Chivalry from Abu for WM and 585 G. Chivalry, 100g and Peace to Abe for Education. We can get two luxes and 360 G from Iro's for our extra iron but I hold off.

350 AD: Build military units in our cities.

360 AD: Extra Iron to Iros. He gives GunPowder, Gems, Spices and Wm for it. I reduce our lux tax to 0.

360 - 430 AD: Basically I just built military units in all cities. I connected another iron. We had a saltpeter source just outside our city. This has been connected and two pikes have been upgraded. Some horses have also been upgraded. Zulus have built Sun Tzu and Abe has built the Sistine. Everybody and their uncle is building Leo's.

Printing Press is available. But I do not think we need it. Astronomy is also available but there is nohing else useful available for a 2-fer. Once our iron trade runs out with Hiwa we can get another tech from him. He also does not have salt peter but another source is available just in Baby territory. Our military is still average compared to his, but I think in 10 turns it will be string. Then we can hit him again.

Bz2_Uskudar_430AD.jpg

The workers two tiles south of Uskudar are mining a BG that we can not work. ;)

Everything else looks good. I agree that Uskudar needs a courthouse. I think it might be a good idea to add some workers to Uskudar and Bursa to get them up to size 12.

I think we should attack Babylon and the Zulus soon. We should try to get Arabia and/or the Iroquois to join us. I think we have 5 turns left on a deal with the Zulus.

Is ther room for One more, since I am interested in signing up. If there is no more, please feel free to add me if someone drops from the game
