Bz2 - 5CC Overdrive

I looked at the save, and we do have a source of Iron by Istanbul. One thing we haven't considered: what about the jungle to the east? We *are* Industrious, after all. That could be hiding coal (which is always good) and BG underneath it. The desert tile to the south with the forest game and the plains wheat is also a possibility.

Can someone post a full screenshot from the end of the last save so we can see these areas better? Or wait... I guess I can do it...

Advantages to the jungle area: No war required. Possibility of coal. May be very productive after worker improvement. River access.

Disadvantages to Jungle area: It's basically in the second ring away from the Capitol, which is bad for 5CC but not that bad. If there isn't any Bonus grass, will have productioin problems.

Advantages to Coastal site: Secures a second source of iron. On the coast, giving us access to harbors. Without harbors, if there ARE civs not on this pangea, we will never be able to trade with them. In the first ring, and has hills and mountains for production.

Disadvantages to Coastal site: We have to go to war with the most powerful and warlike civ in the game. May take awhile to get it set up and defended.

Personally, my vote is still for the coastal city. I think having the second source of iron and coastal access is too important to pass up. I like having it in the first ring. Just my opinion! That jungle site is a very strong choice too - we can probably win either way.

Here is the save from the beginning of 1675 BC. In my experience, the turn that writing becomes available can usually be used to gain tech parity.

Do we think we should found our fifth and last city next to the ruins of the Aztec city? Or should we found it inland and not have a coastal city? I vote for the coastal city. I think we should start preparing for a war with Monty.

At this point, I do not think we should found on jungle or desert for the possibility of future resources. We can always found colonies on the resources that pop up outside our city borders.

1500 BC: Check state of empire. Nothing untowardly. Press spacebar.

it: zzz

1475: IRos have math. That's about it.

1450BC: Now Iros and Lincoln both have Math and Poly. I definitely checked last turn and Lincoln did not have either. So what went on here? Anybody care to explain? Istanbul Barrack -> Temple. We will need that temple to keep that lux down. It will finish exactly when Istanbul grows.

1425: Edrine Granary -> Worker. This is a food rich city and we need that extra worker.

1400 : zzz

1375 : Our warrior pops a hut. gets a conscript warrior :( Well I guess anything is better than barbs.

1350 BC: zzz

1325 BC: Ooh! Now Map Making in on sale. Buy MM from Shaka for WM and 180G. Buy Poly and Math from Iro for WM, MM and 50G. Then a whole round of buying and selling WM to everybody. We gain the hole world map and 130G. Thus finally we have gained three techs and the world map for 100G most of which have gone to Shaka. Everybody else is broke.

We are caught up in Tech. [dance]

1300 BC: Iron connected.

1275 BC: Istanbul Temple -> Sword.

here is the save. I think Stuck_As_A_Mac is up next.

I did not start a settler since I think the Aztec grounds are the best choice for our 5th and last city. We should start swords, found that city in Monty's territory and pound aztecs for a while and bring their number of cities down.

Tenochtitlan has three wheat on Grass and one wheat on flood plain. No wonder they were able to pump out so many settlers.

I agree with the plan to build swords and hit Monty in the nose.

SAAM, we need a temple in Erdrine soon to pull in the last BG and the horse.
My vote is for the coastal site. And BTW, Snap, we can trade with them even without coastal cities. How? If we have a trade route with a civ with a trade route to one on another continent, then we can trade with the one on another continent. Also, airports will allow us to trade.

I think our three outer cities should be temple --> barracks --> Swords. I think we should rush the temples when they have twenty shields left.

I opened the save and have a couple of questions.
Why did you not connect the incense to be able to lower our lux tax?
Why did you decide to work the mountain beside Edrine before the hill next to it. Hills are 1.1.0 vs. 0.1.0 for mountains, take less worker turns to improve, and the hill can be shared between Edrine and Istanbul.
Could you have bought poly from the Iriquois for WM and MM and math from Abe for WM and MM and saved 50G?

I think Edrine may need to build a worker between builds to keep its pop down. Otherwise we will need to keep our lux tax up or hire entertainers.

You are right on both counts. That was :smoke: As you know, my weak point is worker actions. Next player should connect the incense, but since the mountain is already half way finished, let it finish I guess.

That's a good point. For some reason I thought we'd have to wait until airports. Still, it might be handy to have the capability to build ships at some point. I'm all for going at the Aztecs with swords.

Just think if they irrigated! :crazyeye:

Some comments from somebody who has done the 5CC more then once.

Coastal city is mandatory IMHO. You always wind up with a couple of annoying island cities.
In true 5CC you can't accept cities in peace. That means the ONLY way to get them is invasion! No coastal city, no invasion, and you have to abandon a good city to get one late game coastal city.

With a limited number of cities, we need to use our traits to their max. That means 1) Lots of workers 2) Big cities 3) Libraries. For our Scientific civ, Libraries are cheaper than temples and have more culture. Once our economy is really on its feet, we might want to start researching and selling it to non-scientific or commercial civs to fund our research. Of course, we'll need some wonders. We won't need Bach's or Sistine as much as a larger civ, which will allow us to concentrate on wonders like Newton's and Copernicus. Thankfully, there are no industrious wonders (IIRC) between the Great Wall/Hanging Gardens and Hoover. If we don't build any of the former wonders, we can trigger our GA at a perfect time to build the Space Ship with TOE->Hoover. This is a bit down the line, but if we survive to then, we'll be in good shape :).

My $.02.

Libraries would be better to build than temples, but I do not think that we have Lit yet. Do we want to start a pre-build for the GL?

Tsk, do you not plan on building any of our mighty Sipahi?

We won't be doing much warmongering past now, but it is possible. Which is one of the reasons I want those horsies connected. Up Sipahi!
And in response to something ControlFreak asked in another thread, if you don't want to type my full name, feel free to put Tsuk, or even Tsuky if you like .
I don't think we should try for the GL. We need to focus on consolidating our five cities and attacking the Aztecs. Attacking the Aztecs also helps with something else, as we need more workers. Industriousness rules :).

Sorry I just responded. Just spent the last 6hr and 42min reading Order of the Phoneix. So lemme just get caught up. Dont build the 5th and Final settler. Let the workers finish the mountain job and then do Incense. On the 3 non capital cities, do Temple-rax-sword pump.

That about right?

Order of the Phoenix took me only about 3 1/2 hours. It rocked.
