C2C - Civics Discussion Thread

What I'm saying is that barbs and animals need to be separated so that the barbs can use animals to build the Subdued Animals buildings. Using them as attack units is a waste, even though it is the only thing they can do right now.

Can you make the new Barb-Culture building spawn a subdued animal ever X turns, like the Biodome?

Sorry if I have not been following closely with the civics but what happened to Patriarchy and Matriarchy civics?

EDIT: Also Cloning civic should be listed after Unmanned Warfare civic. Since it now appears on the tech tree later, but still before Time Drafting civic.

In fact you may want to double check the civics to see if some appear in the wrong order now that the tech tree has been shuffled around.

Maybe, I had thought of that as an option. But since we've wanted to separate barbs and animals for a year or so now it would make sense to do that.

But, I thought, barbarian cities do not build any buildings at all. It is only when Rev converts them into cities that they get buildings. Yet more reason for me to get back to that Era Start/free at tech building lists.

Why does changing from Divine Cult to Prophets remove Fixed Borders and why isn't it mentioned?

Ya, i'd (personally) like more fixed borders, but thats just me.:p

Dad Gummit!!! Then why even have a Fixed Borders Option?!! Are we going back on that one too?

If you want FB use the Game Set up Option, plain and simple.

ah ah ah:nono:, there JosEPh, talk is simple, dont make it simplifool. . . SO:p

Remember nothing is written in stone unless it appears in the SVN. Otherwise its just "talk."

I "Have" to watch you guys like a Hawk All the time. ;)

Cause sometimes you all forget it's just "talk" and then I have to fight like H E dbl hockey sticks all over again! :p :deal: And 1 vs 10 gets tiresome and unfair and not about having "choices" either.:splat:

I know, I know, I don't mod, so I need to shut up and go back to my corner and put my dunce cap back on.:gripe:  :mischief:

Should they get any other benefits? Since its a building it would be easy for me to add other stats to give the barbarians a leg up. Note that its more like a level playing field due to how dumb they can act compared to humans.

EDIT: In fact we may want to start thinking of a special culture unit for the barbarians that requires that building.

Don't forget about the "Barbarian" trait, which only applies to barbarians.

I haven't received any feedback on this yet.
Coincidentally, I tweaked it earlier today.
Anyway here are the details:
+1 :health:
+2 :)
+4 free units
Free units equal to 35% of population.
+35% production bonus for military units.
Can upgrade units outside national borders.
+25% XP needed for promotions.
Free 'Aggressive' promotion on melee units.
-50% civic upkeep costs.
+75% worker speeds.

* Its been similar to this for awhile now (around a month i guess), today I tweaked it by reducing the military production slightly, upping the civic upkeep discount and upping the worker speeds.

Perhaps I should up the free units to like 12? :mischief:

You seem to be under the impression that the Fixed Borders game option means that you always have fixed borders. That is not the case and probably never was. The option enables fixed borders in game when you have the correct civics. Currently there are two problems
1) it appears that the civic information is not being displayed - apparently Divine Cult has fixed borders but there is nothing on the civic screen to say that it does. It used to.

2) There are very few civics that give fixed borders.

1. The gametext for that should be changed to make more clear how the option works.

2. There are about 20 or so last I looked.

This has always been the case. So no idea way it does not say so.

I suspect that they are not additive - in that government X gives you fixed borders but Religion Y which you just changed to does not therefore you loose fixed borders.

Really!!!

Then all that arguing in v17 over FB and City Limits was only half baked? Cause iirc FB was going to be On all the time and when Koshling set up the Option it was only supposed to be On if the Game Set Up FB Option was On. Guess I got the rug pulled out from under me then. :p :(

And since I don't play with FB On I've Never seen it's effects in any of my Games since then. I don't get the weird patch work Culture like ppl post in their screenies with it on. Just sayin'. :dunno:

There are 3 civics that have fixed borders Religion (Divine Rule and Intolerant) and Government (Fascist). This does not seem right to me. (I used the XMLScanner to examine the civics.)

Possibly CivPlayer8 didn't understand Fixed Borders well when he was making the civics? Because I remember in AND there were like 20 civics that gave Fixed Borders.

Now i could handle that, but I do like them.

You can give them all fixed borders for all I care, I always play with them off, so it doesn't bother me what ever way you decide to do it.

But I almost feel like, if there is a 'No Fixed borders' option, then there should also be a 'Always use Fixed Borders' option too.

Inform me why it would be better (if only probable) to switch from Div Cult to just Prophets? Seems way worse, or am i missing something here, but WHY would i even use Prophets?? When you have DC above? Just wondering.
