C2C: Promotions

Now military works on invisible materials. We see something because the wave of light reflects from this thing. But even know we can create materials that not reflects the light wave. They bend light wave. So my idea to add another transhuman equipment promotion

Invisible jacket
- invisible to most units (like spies)
- +3 first strikes

That would require that I move the invisibility tag to promotions, which should not be too hard, but still, it is more effort. I think that its a good idea though.

I belive that in the future we as humans better understand how gravity works and we will discover antigravity. So my late transhuman promo is

Antigravity pack require Jet pack
Ignores terrain movement cost
No penalty from crossing river
Can cros every terrain (even volcanos, oceans etc.)

Sounds good, I'd probably tweak it but it'll go on my future promos list.

@ls612
Since you want to add invisibility tag to promotions i sugest 3 new promotions

Ambush I
- invisible on forest,tundra, jungle (every wooden terrain)
+1 first strike

Ambush II
- invisible on forest,tundra, jungle (every wooden terrain)
+2 first strikes

Ambush III
- invisible on forest,tundra, jungle (every wooden terrain)
+3first strikes

If all goes well in developing the visibility mod under discussion, you wouldn't tag a unit with 'invisibility' but rather you'd increase the unit's stealth (by type) value.

Humans have a tendency to put all detectability into the realm of sight because we're visual, but removing a person's ability to see you doesn't mean you aren't detectable... just means you're very hard to detect.

There are already promotions called "Ambush". They have been in since Vanilla. See here.

Likewise I don't think it should include tundra terrain, but instead be for Forest/Jungle/Bamboo terrain features. Because right now you have 2 terrain features and one terrain. Which makes no sense. Because you can have Forest on Tundra.

@hydro
1 So we may call it diffrent or tweak the old ones promotions. I love the idea of early ambush. It is realistic and makes dog unit even more important.

@everyone else :p
2 I hate the idea that town watchman, guard and police units have the same promotions like military units. For new player it have no sense because he dont see at all that this is a special unit. I think that Police unit shoud be Civilian unit category (we have it but it is empty now).
Police are civilians (work 8h/day and go home as normal citizen)

Civilian unit - unit category
- cant enter enemy teritory (nobody send civilian for a war)
- can only defend (like it is now)
- cost extra gold/turn
- have own independent promotion tree

3 Civilian units (so now police unit) promotions should be

Policing I,II,III - like it is now crime fight
Patrol I,II,III - like it is now decrease revolution
Quarantine I,II,III - decrease disease impact - help to fight with disease by make closed
areas, vacination and others
Counterespionage I,II,III - like fbi - help thwart rival spies and makes enemy espionage missions more expensive and less likely to success.
Serve and protect I,II,III - usual every day police work - traffic control, law and order, provides hapinness and health
Emergency tactics I,II,III - help people to find shelter when city is attacked by nukes, chemical or biological weapon (less loses in civilians)
Antiterrorist protocol I,II,III - help to stop terrorist attack in the city - can see invisible units like assasins, rogue and others
Firs aid I,II,III - help to heal units in city or city vincinity

My goal behind this promotions is avoid situation that ib each city i must build few special units like it is now: police to fight crime, dog to see invisivle units, spie to thwart enemy spies, medic to heal.

Mostly I like this very much. The only bit I don't think is needed is the First aid line since I think the buildings we have can be modified slightly to do the city vicinity healing.

Civilian is the wrong word, Domestic units maybe? Adding a Unitcombat is a pain though, as I found out with Combat Workers. ;)

@Hydro
Camouflage or Disguise - when you are in forest you can paint yourself and glue some leafs that will make you invisible from distance. This is old technique used even in modern times. So add it please :)

What do you think about new police promotions ideas???

Wait, why do the bOnlyDefensive units need to be their own unitcombat? I'm confused then.

You do know there is a Unitcombat Civilian already for defensive/recon only correct?

@ls612
In pedia is Civilian unitcombat class end it is empty so you can use it or rename it

As far as I can see the point is to separate the military and civilian promotion lines completely. I would suggest that civilian units would not get XP from Settled Generals but some buildings would give either free promotions to those units or XP to those units only.

Agreed.

I thougt the same. We can add buildings like Police Academy that would give XP for civilian units (or other name that ls612 will invent ;) ). I also think that civics can give XP or promotions to civilian units.

Civilian units
Should be built with :food: (normaly we will set a police unit as a specialist that cost 1citizen but because it is a half military unit and can be useful to defend in emergency cases it is a unit that appear on the map so the idea that should cost :food:

No Xp from combat (because it have totaly difrent promos geting xp from combat makes no sense) ocasional promotions can stay as they are to represent unit ability to learn some combat skils

Can I post a new thread abou civilian unit idea where we will can develop this idea because this thread is about military units promotions?
