The Royal Marriage ...
I, Ferric Auris III Queen of England, who is actually a man, but one with a weakness for women's fashion am betrothed.
:hmm: wonder who will wear the wedding dress me or the 'young, extremely beautiful and wild' French bride, daughter of Roy de France, the King of France. :groucho:

Kingdoms Alligned
This includes doubling our tech research, trading knowledge cheaply, sharing plans and maps, sharing intelegence of the other teams ... and dividing the new world which will hamper the expansion of the others ... Any extra luxury or strategic resource should be automatically gifted to the other party ... we are engaged after all LOL ... We should swap World Maps too at some stage ...

Regarding our rivals ... I think that we should cease all future technology trade ... and discuss if an opportunity does arise ... I would agree to a veto clause which states that we can trade with any rival ONLY if we both agree.

French Pirate will be named with a W.

>
Me ... Nicely Written

Look into my spoiler any time you want ...

How about I give you Mining when you can afford to lose the 3 per gold ... I do use cash to rush buildings ... important to remember is that Tobacco Plantation and other lux specific buildings will get those treasure chests generated ...

Can't wait to go Pirate Hunting ... but you must tell me the names of your ships so i do not take them when I police the seas LOL ... or better still if you do not intend to name them ... just change the spelling.

I may even be able to road for you at some stage.

Cheers

>
Me ... Greetings

How is your lovely daughter ... in good health I trust? ... Good ... now to business.

I have sent you the charts of the world as we know it ... I have rushed my research of Mining at a deficit to my economy however all is well as I will concentrate on wealth while awaiting Privateers from you ... I will send it onto you next turn.

All my vessels are now Carracks ... I intend to really go for colonising the new world ... the Dutch are building a road west I must plant a city on a certain recourse rich area very soon. Also I will have my first of many knights to deal with those pesky tribes and to swiftly and safely transport my treasures.

Pleasant expansion

Son In Law to be ... Ferric Auris III

>
France ... In 7 turns you can be a pirate ... My Pirate ships name will start with 'W'... need to tell me your 'pirate' code.
Cheers,
Le 'Macho' Roy

>
Me ... Greetings Le 'Macho' Roy

How is the little flower, my bride to be?

I cannot build pirates only privateers ... and must be at war to take foreign shipping.

Together we shall control the seas, I will act as your eyes so that you can take the ships of the Dutch, Spain and the Portugese and at the same time I will rid the waters of pirate scum.

Son In Law to be ... Ferric Auris III

PS. I have sent you Mining as most except Dutch have it ... perhaps you could persuade them to research Fortifications in return for giving it early ... they just completed (or traded) Naval Ordinance condition they have to give you 1 gold per turn until they complete the trade (that way they will research faster)

>
>
France ... Thanks ... Thank u for your gift.

I have asked some poor painter to make a portrait of my daughter to send to you. He is an italian name Michael Angel or something ... not a very gifted
artist, but enough for the job. When he's finished you might be able to see all her beatifullness!

I forgot who are not a Pirate type of nation... not too fair, I'd have to say. Specially taking into consideration the 'real' British history during these times...

Cheers,
Le 'Macho' Roy

>
Me ... Greetings Le 'Macho' Roy

Hey I look forward to receiving the portrait of your fair and wild daughter (in a spoiler I trust ) ... anyway to business.

Firstly I trust you are aware that St. Mary's City will be expanding her border in 2 turns ... I only mention this as I see you wasting time with a colonist heading west to a gap that will not be there for long.

Secondly have you sent the diplomacy off to the Dutch enticing them to research Fortification in return for Mining.

Pleasant expansion

Son In Law to be ... Ferric Auris III

>
France ... Dear Sir (slightly upset tone),

The picture I will send it will be a portrait for your eyes only!!! I trust you will not show it to anyone, in or outside the court!

I know the wine we are sending you is of good quality, but maybe you shouldn't consume so much of it! I have no colonist near St. Mary's city!

As agreed, my planned expansion is as follows:
- NE of Jamestown. You can have all the Area West of Jamestown. I have troops in that area to make sure no barbarians threaten your colonists.
- NW of New Orleans towards the Pacific.

As the North American terrain is starting to be scarce, I'm thinking of expanding to Africa, so that the Portuguese doesn't claim it all for himself. This will mean protecting 3 areas very far apart but there isn't much other options.

Thanks for the Colonization. I'm already building a Tobacco Plantation!!! YES! :D

I did not send any proposal to the Dutch. May I enquire why don't you propose the deal you mentioned to him?

Cheers,
Le Macho Roy

>
Me ... Le Macho Roy

Hmm I must indeed have been indulging the wine too much ... but I'll blame it on a relently deceased, colour blinded advisor.

I thought you were going to talk to the Dutch ... because you mentioned having a good relationship in the past and he has been a bit standoffish lately ... also I have recently (last turn) marched through the territory of a new settlement.

I look forward seeing this Master Angel's work

Sincerely

Ferric Auris III of Britain

Added Later ... If you have a spare settler/colonist in the area ... why don't you grab the area directly north of New Orleans ... much food and a horse ... I have nothing near and would hate for Dutch to get it. In fact the nearest thing is about 8 turns away back in London

And ... I can see a choice island SE of Wiltwyck (Dutch) ... it is a single hill but would be easily defendible ... 2 fish and also a spice resource sourround it. It would be a great Pirate base for harassing Portugese, Spanish as well.

Spoiler Lurkers only :
Finally I have produced some treasure for my mighty empire to grow. Both were from Tobacco factories. It looks like that the Portuguese have already got some treasure back home, as you can see from the spike down below.

Soon I will get a growth in my VP.

Right now I am at war with the Aztecs. The war has gone very well for me and I have an army as a result of the battles. Naturally I made a knight army since they are the best attacking unit we have. I have built my first Musket and in the pocess I plan to replace the out of date Pikeman with this wonderful unit.

I have a temptation to go for some of the non tradeable techs and get those high culture wonders and improvements. I might try for a cultural victory but most likely it will be via VPs that I will win.

I have an agreement with qummik, my portuguese neighbour to get Piracy from him once he has researched it. I will ask him when he will get Piracy. I will get fortification in one turn by using six specialists and having max tax for this turn.

GPS to the Portuguese King, Qummik.
I have a question about our special rules. Is it allowed to attack those of the same goverment?

I, Ferric Auris III Queen of England, who is actually a man, but one with a weakness for women's fashion am betrothed.
:hmm: wonder who will wear the wedding dress me or the 'young, extremely beautiful and wild' French bride, daughter of Roy de France, the King of France. :groucho:

Kingdoms Alligned
This includes doubling our tech research, trading knowledge cheaply, sharing plans and maps, sharing intelegence of the other teams ... and dividing the new world which will hamper the expansion of the others ... Regarding our rivals ... I think that we should cease all future technology trade ... and discuss if an opportunity does arise ... I would agree to a veto clause which states that we can trade with any rival ONLY if we both agree.

Hey I look forward to receiving the portrait of your fair and wild daughter (in a spoiler I trust ) ... anyway to business.

Secondly have you sent the diplomacy off to the Dutch enticing them to research Fortification in return for Mining.

France 1524 ... Dear Sir (slightly upset tone),

The picture I will send it will be a portrait for your eyes only!!! I trust you will not show it to anyone, in or outside the court!

<snip>

>

>
France 1525 ... Some fast notes:
1. I have tobacco. Not connected yet but will be.
2. 5 turns to Piracy.
3. I have 1 colonizer going to Africa.
4. Aztecs only have one city. Are there VP's for finishing off a nation?

We should think about medium-term plans. Attack some nation or just piracy and counter-pirating for now?

>
Me 1525 ... I will hook up another Furs soon and send to you.
Any response from Dutch about them researching Fortification?
I plan to settle the far north and create a wall of defending cities which will stop others getting up there.

Aztecs will be taken by Spain soon ... if you can take the city it would be good.
Not sure about extra VP to kill off a civilization ... perhaps post the question, better from you as you are nearby.
Medium strategy, I like the idea of expansion and consolidation ... in the interim, use your pirates to sink ships (Spain and Portugal are threats) and I'll rid the sea of other pirates ... start no pirate action until there are others who have that technology or you will be suspected.

ADDED ... Mention again a good Pirate Base for France is a choice island SE of Wiltwyck (Dutch)

You have accepted Tobacco, but I suspect that it will be nulled next turn since you have your own source.
Portugal has no Saltpeter, should I offer a trade to him ???

>
French 1526 ... Hi.
We'll need to decide if we go for Counter-Reform or the Protestant way.
Saltpepper to Portugal? I would leave them without ... easier to attack if it cames to that.
Spain has an Army! :(

... I think he's planning to attack someone... I think it's either Portugal or me!
Unfortunately the tobacco won't be anulled once I get the trade going.
Also, what to research once we go the next stage? I was thinking of going to the tech that gives
Hospitals.

Cheers

Me 1526 ... Wow an Army ... Damn he is a very dangerous player ... and 3 Knights ... I only have 1 so far.

Regarding Catholic vs. Protestant ... I don't know yet .. havn't checked out the benefits of each ... although from a purely personal perspective (out of game) if I had to choose ... it would be the latter.

Regarding techs ... I will research something else ... something with a wonder (I do not have one built yet) .. however will city increase be a good benefit if we are at war??

I agree with not assisting Portugal ... yet
Reasons
1. without Saltpeter, Spain may see him as an easier target than you.
2. If he goes for you, we could offer Saltpeter in return for attacking Spain.
3. If he goes for Portugal, we could offer Saltpeter so he is not too easy a target.

Cheers

Me 1526 ... Hail to thee to my friend from the land of Tulips, Dykes and cute wooden shoes.

I would like to offer you a deal ... I offer you Mining now in return for you supplying me with the art of Fortification. You will have the benefis now but must swap to reasearching forts. I can even throw in Tobacco when I have an extra source connected, but for that you must research at the fastest rate you are able which will not place your economy in deficit.

What say you ???

>
Dutch 1526 ... A small number of obstacles. The first being that my own alchemists have just finished mining. Another being that I have a source of Tobacco that I just need to connect.

It would take 9 turns at full speed to research fortifications.

@Classical ... yes we can attack anyone, the special rules apply to the change in religion from Catholic to Protestant.

On to the Dutch von Clausewitz

*** Special Rules ***
Special rules : this PBEM will have the following rules so by choosing to be part of it, you promise to abide by them.

- Europe : no war can be raged on the European territory. If you are at war with another power, you must keep your fight in the colonies, no land battle allowed in Europe (naval battles are of course authorized around Europe, including Gibraltar).
- Religion : If a country research protestantism while another chooses the counter-reformation then these countries should declare war on one another (whether you actually fight is another issue but no trade, no agreement anyway).
- Natives and Techs : forbid tech-trading with Natives, at least from a certain tech and up (before gunpowder for instance or even earlier)

Anything else?

Don't forget that we must either go for Protestantism or Counter Reformation. I mention this since I will amke it known that I will be researching Counter Reformation when I get to it. Also should we make both Counter Reformation and Protestantism as techs that we cannot trade to each other.

Later on we decided not to allow ANY trade with the AI civs

So I can't stay Catholic to the end?

no war can be raged on the European territory.
Does this include the islands I had in the beginning of the game?

If you go for the counter-reform tech you must remain Catholic.

This 'Religious' rules means that we can't (ever) research Protestantism AND Counter Reformation? So we can not (later) change our minds? Once it's choosen it's choosen?

I guess nations should announce when they start researching one or the other.

:hmm: So players who are Catholic cannot befriend and assist a Protestant?

No trading of techs, resources, maps, etc. ???

Can they make peace?
