In whom I trust
Does anyone think that these techs that show your government choice be untradable in this game and you must go towards it asap?
GPS to the PortugueseSpoiler Lurkers Only :I grow weary of qummik and if he does not respond soon and tell me when he is getting Piracy, I will research start to it next turn and max my research and get it in four turns. Right now I am the tech leader so this is a good thing but so far only me and Portugal have had our GA, so other teams will have some time to catch up on me. I have no need of Professional Armies and Protestantism, which should make my task much easie at this stage.
I have two treasures just about to enter my capital. I see that qummik has returned some already treasure since he had an increase of 1000 VPs. I will get an increase of 2000 next turn and 400 gold as a result of my treasure being returned to my home.
Good. I like this system!von_Clausewitz said:and i thought the whole thing about the religions only dealt with actually changing the 'government' type not researching the tech for them.

I, Ferric Auris III Queen of England, who is actually a man, but one with a weakness for women's fashion am betrothed.
wonder who will wear the wedding dress me or the 'young, extremely beautiful and wild' French bride, daughter of Roy de France, the King of France.
Kingdoms Alligned
This includes doubling our tech research, trading knowledge cheaply, sharing plans and maps, sharing intelegence of the other teams ... and dividing the new world which will hamper the expansion of the others ... Any extra luxury or strategic resource should be automatically gifted to the other party ... we are engaged after all LOL ... We should swap World Maps too at some stage ...
Regarding our rivals ... I think that we should cease all future technology trade ... and discuss if an opportunity does arise ... I would agree to a veto clause which states that we can trade with any rival ONLY if we both agree.
French Pirates will be named with a W.
>
>
Me 1525 ... sent copy of Spanish Correspondence.
Received and sent correspondence with Spain ... trying to get intel from them ... I fear they are too strong so have no intention in having dealings with him ... do you agree or think otherwise.
>
French 1526 ... 1. I have tobacco. I've to reject again your tobacco offer but I think I screwed up.
2. Spain also asked me the same question. If he accepts to sell fortification for something else than another tech could be interesting. Go for it.
3. I have 1 explorer in S. America to try and reduce the uncharted parts of the world.
4. Gained 210 VP's for the war with the Aztecs.
>
Me 1526 ... If you look in spoilers under the rivals, I have noted what can be traded with each ... at the moment we having no tech that Spain doesn't ... but as soon as we do enter next age I'm sure that combined, we will rectify this situation.
Spain is our greatest threat ... Classical is a good player ... Congrats with Aztecs destruction ... that will hinder the Spanish LOL
I have offered the Dutch the Mining now for Fortification deal (see Spoiler)
You have accepted Tobacco, but I suspect that it will be nulled next turn since you have your own source.
Portugal has no Saltpeter, should I offer a trade to him ???
>
French 1526 ... Hi.
We'll need to decide if we go for Counter-Reform or the Protestant way.
Saltpepper to Portugal? I would leave them without ... easier to attack if it cames to that.
Spain has an Army!![]()
... I think he's planning to attack someone... I think it's either Portugal or me!
Unfortunately the tobacco won't be anulled once I get the trade going.
Also, what to research once we go the next stage? I was thinking of going to the tech that gives
Hospitals.
Cheers
>
Me 1526 ... Wow an Army ... Damn he is a very dangerous player ... and 3 Knights ... I only have 1 so far.
Regarding Catholic vs. Protestant ... I don't know yet .. havn't checked out the benefits of each ... although from a purely personal perspective (out of game) if I had to choose ... it would be the latter.
Regarding techs ... I will research something else ... something with a wonder (I do not have one built yet) .. however will city increase be a good benefit if we are at war??
I agree with not assisting Portugal ... yet
Reasons
1. without Saltpeter, Spain may see him as an easier target than you.
2. If he goes for you, we could offer Saltpeter in return for attacking Spain.
3. If he goes for Portugal, we could offer Saltpeter so he is not too easy a target.
Cheers
French 1527 ... Dear Sir,
The picture of my daughter is almost almost finished. She is an extremely beautifull girl but the portrait shows all her beauty in few clothes... I'm sure you'll like what you see.
Anyway, to business.
The Dutch don't have tobacco so if u have another spare tobacco, you might want to trade with them. However they do have mining, so the deal you thought about isn't possible.
The ideas of Luther (Protestatism) seems a better Religion than our current 'Pope'ism... but my doubt is if the duration of the anarchy period which will certainly follow this change is worth the change.
Our pirate design ships are in the making and should came out within 3 turns. After that I plan to research Scientific Method, which opens up doors to 'Medicine' and 'Military Tradition'...
I like your idea about giving Saltpepper to Portugal either to assist vs the Spanish or as an attempt to buy his help. I doubt he would accept the latter, but
Cheers, Le Roy
>
Me 1527 ... Dear LeRoy of France
I await with baited breath the delivery of the portrait of my bride to be ... In fact I have a squire posted on the docks at the ready.
Just thought since there is no possible attack on your European cities ... sell the Walls ... I raised the kingly sum of 8 gold.
Next technology I will go for Mercantilism and try for Smith's Trading Company wonder.
Regarding which religion, since we are both Catholic, we can wait to evaluate which religion is better at a later date ... the period of anarchy is a big issue and Spain and Portugal have the advantage both having the Religious trait.
I assume you are keeping an eye on the spoiler ... It will give you an indication of what I am upto ... What are you building in your cities?
Cheers, Ferric Auris III of Britain

Well said!fe3333au on post 123 said:How about giving contacts to those who don't have them as well ... (...)
Actually in addition, I would prefer for fairness for ... the offending player to gift us ALL equal shares of the gold he got. ... and for the original non-trading rule to be re-applied.
(...)
Also, I think that ALL OTHER players can buy a map ONCE from natives.
I understand that the error was made by mistake but the above solution is to me more fair ... I think I prefer the No More Native Trading because the very next player will attempt to sell techs and then the next (if any gold left) ... third player and rest will not receive anything, as mentioned the way the game was configured the northern colonists are at a disadvantagewhich is the reason we decided on the rules.
Spoiler Lurker's Only :Well I returned my treasure and now I am back in the lea of VPs. qummik again bought some treasure into his capital so now he is 5010 whereas I am now 5205. I am now researching Piracy since I know that qummik will not trade it to me, thus I might as well research it myself. I will have it in 4 tunrs, so it is not a big deal for me and plus the gold brought in by the treasure will pay for the science that I am now going through.
My opinion is that you should give 15 gp (76/5) to each player and keep the worker(*).fe3333au said:So my transactions (post rule discussion) resulted in 76 Gold
... Divided by 4 players is 19 gold which will give ALL gold gained.
I'd like to keep the slave if it is OK ... but am willing to disband if required.
I assumed this was your proposal on post 123... communication mistakes... find them everywhere!fe3333au said:So regarding the Clarification
Is it that we cannot enter into any Native trade what so ever which means you cannot buy slaves, trade luxes and resources, buy a city, etc.
Apart from Peace which would be only for peace and nothing additional taken from the natives ???

The Royal Marriage ...
>
>
>
>
French 1528 ... Dear Sir, I agree to wait on the choice of religion.
Spain has moved one Army North of Teotihuacan... don't take it as a good sign. But we'll see.
I don't often read the spoiler as it feels like reading your diary! Anyway, I took a look and I plan to settle 2 tiles South of Stellenbosch. You see... I don't have horses so I can't build Knights! So I was looking for a horse resource.
I am building colonists, Musketeers, Frigates and Temples.
Cheers,
Roy de France
AND
Dear Sir,
The portrait is finished!
You'll be able to see all the splendour of my lovely daughter. She is in underware, but you'll be her husband so I trust you to keep it to your eyes only.
I know that after seeing it you'll be anxious to have her with you, but we'll have to wait for the proper marriage, even if it is a secret one!
Cheers,
Roy de France, father of a beautifull sexy girl
>
Me 1528 ... Dear Roy de France
What an unexpected vision of hairy beauty your daughter is ... I shall carry her picture close to my heart ... and I am having additional barbers trained to join my household staff.
Regarding settling, there are 2 options
1. I shall settle in original spot (SE of Cows, NE of Wheat) and you settle (S of Horses)
2. I can settle on the Wheat and then road horses and trade.
What are your thoughts?
We must prevent the Dutch getting access, I can build a city in either location in 3 turns.

Me 1526 ... Hail to thee to my friend from the land of Tulips, Dykes and cute wooden shoes.
I would like to offer you a deal ... I offer you Mining now in return for you supplying me with the art of Fortification. You will have the benefis now but must swap to reasearching forts. I can even throw in Tobacco when I have an extra source connected, but for that you must research at the fastest rate you are able which will not place your economy in deficit.
What say you ???
>
Dutch 1526 ... A small number of obstacles. The first being that my own alchemists have just finished mining. Another being that I have a source of Tobacco that I just need to connect.
It would take 9 turns at full speed to research fortifications.

Spoiler lurkers and qummik for this time only :I have unfortunately rejected your offer of Piracy because I have started to research it myself and am almot finished it. I asked a few times to give me an idea of when it will be ready so that I can plan ahead with what to do. Had you told me when you have it done, I would not of needed to self research it. I most probably would have accepted your offer of Pricacy had to sent it to me this turn with accept, but that was not done and thus it would be a waste for me to stop whn I only have two turns left of research. It is just not worth it, so if you are willing to sell it to me then I might be able to buy it off you, or even if you are willing to give a cash enticement to go with this deal. A little communiction from you would have solved this problem
