Settlement Plan
Spoiler :

* Priority is Gold.
* First Build is the Treasure producing improvement.
* Expand the City Borders with a Temple Rush.
* Maybe allow the gap else the Dutch will attack out of frustration, so get Gold connected to core.

NOTE
... concede the lower SouthWest from Baltimore to French so they can get some Treasure units happening.
... Therefore move the RedCross (City Site directly below Baltimore) one tile to the East.
... French can have the area with the 4 remaining in the SouthWest, it will also be usefull if Dutch is our target.

The Royal Marriage ...
I, Ferric Auris III Queen of England, who is actually a man, but one with a weakness for women's fashion am betrothed.
:hmm: wonder who will wear the wedding dress me or the 'young, extremely beautiful and wild' French bride, daughter of Roy de France, the King of France. :groucho:

Kingdoms Alligned
This includes doubling our tech research, trading knowledge cheaply, sharing plans and maps, sharing intelegence of the other teams ... and dividing the new world which will hamper the expansion of the others ... Any extra luxury or strategic resource should be automatically gifted to the other party ... we are engaged after all LOL ... We should swap World Maps too at some stage ...

Regarding our rivals ... I think that we should cease all future technology trade ... and discuss if an opportunity does arise ... I would agree to a veto clause which states that we can trade with any rival ONLY if we both agree.

French Pirates will be named with a W.
... Winona, Wilheim, Wind

French 1528 ... Dear Sir,

The portrait is finished!

You'll be able to see all the splendour of my lovely daughter. She is in underware, but you'll be her husband so I trust you to keep it to your eyes only. I know that after seeing it you'll be anxious to have her with you, but we'll have to wait for the proper marriage, even if it is a secret one!

Cheers,
Roy de France, father of a beautifull sexy girl

Spoiler Warning of a Hirsute Nature :

>
French 1534 ... Dear Sir,

I've picked up the workers even though it would be unlikely anyone would see them. I have workers in North America and decided to build roads for your commerce to florish.
The Dutch already have tobbacco so they aren't interested in the trade. Offer the trade to Portugal and see if they are interested. I somehow doubt it, but try.

I have (theoretically) a stronger army than all nations except Portugal. Where to use it?

I've built 2 Privateers. Their names are:
- Winona
- Wilheim

Cheers, Le Roy

>
Me 1534 ... Bless the Lord, your message came just in time as I was just going to issue a general warning of Pirates sighted off the Irish coast to ALL the European powers ... mind you that was before I saw a name starting with 'W'. LOL

Spain has rejected the offer for furs ... but it makes sense because the idiots who designed the game only gave furs (and other resources) a bonus if in a city radius.

>
France 1535 ... Dear Sir, I've been attacked by a Pirate. Nasty!
My Pirate ships are: Winona, Wilheim, Wind

I have another daughter, which lacks the beauty of the first one so I am willing to give a majestic doiry(?) to anyone who is brave enough to marry her. I'm sending her picture but please... take a deep breath before seing it as she is not pretty. She does not follow her father's looks... hmmm... came to think of it, she does look like one of servants... such a coincidence, isn't it?
Spoiler Another Daughter :

Cheers, Le Roy

>
Me 1535 ... Dear Sir,

I am sorry to hear about the pirates, let me know where they are and I will displatch a Sea Dog, I am building them every 2 turns, and soon if necessary I can double that production. My first the Golden Hind will enjoy a testing and is mid ocean in a direct line to between the New World England/France, my priority is to keep this sea lane clear of pirates.

As to your other daughter, I would think that I would prefer a bloodline that runs true.

Notes
* Cities cannot be founded on Forest, Jungle, Swamp, Mountains.
* Explorers disband to 2 Shields.
* Treasure is 200 Gold and 1000 Victory Points when returned to Capital.
* Overlap Cities to get access to Luxuries ... this will enable more Treasure units.

On to the Dutch von Clausewitz

Rule Query

It never occured to me because I am not based on the European mainland :D

But it concerns this one ...
- Europe : no war can be raged on the European territory. If you are at war with another power, you must keep your fight in the colonies, no land battle allowed in Europe (naval battles are of course authorized around Europe, including Gibraltar).

Am I correct that this rule is also extended to incorporate
NO player may trespass in another country's European territory with a land unit, without permission first

I think we are not allowed to have units in other European countries, unless you have an ROP.
Spoiler Lurkers only :
I have gotten myslf another Treasure to my Captial and this is actuallly making me nervous since it i painting a big target on myself. I have four more treasure on the way home but two are safe in a port so that is good. I also have two treasures that need to be picke up. Next turn I will get Mercantilism and thus I can ge some greater commerce with Smiths. This willl be my last turn with max science since I need some cash, even with all that treasure coming in, because I want to cash rush some things.

GPS.

I got the file but will take a while to play as I'm having some troubles with my PC.

Nothing that a good hammer won't fix...

While we wait I have a query about the game mechanics.

If a pirate vessel is captured by another Pirate or one of my Sea Dogs, does it then show the 'original' nationality?

If so will this be a legitimate reason to declare war ???

GPS. Nothing to report.

I guess I should start counting my ships to see if some vanish misteriously...

I think that any reason is legitimate to declare war. I declared war on the Aztecs because I don't like potatoes!

>

>
France 1536 ... Don't forget that Wind is mine.
>
Me 1536 ... Dear Sir

I would warn you that a Dutch frigate is 3 tiles South of your pirate Wind.
I will attack any un-named or non-W pirate scum, but will confer with you if I come across a vessel that is unknown to me.
Once I get more Sea Dogs, let me know where I can patrol so that I may act as a spotter.

I also have an idea for your Empire spread in the North Americas, please view my spoiler as there is a map in Settlement Plan ... I have red crossed potential city sites which will gain treasure, if you wish the 4 that are SW of Baltimore can be yours ... I will concentrate in the North ... Let me know your thoughts.

I am blocking Dutch expansion North and am reinforcing military in that area just in case. They have finally hooked up Tobacco and currently we are AVERAGE to them in Military.

How goes Africa?

I am 4 turns from Mercantilism ... and produced a gold treasure.

Spoiler lurker's only :
If you read this and are part of this game, go stick a fork in a toaster. :p I hope you know where I got that spoiler warning from.

I have discovered Mercantilism. I will make some offers to my fellow Europeans

I am now researching Counter Reformation so that I can be fulfilling part of my responsiblities of showing that I want to stay Catholic. Because I now hav Mercantilsm I can now use my SGL for getting Adam's Smiths.

After building this wonder I shall go into massive unit production with Madrid since it is as 16SPT which means that the longest I am waiting for in production turns is 3 turns. But I am an idiot in not building it in Barcelona instead since it is relatively poor in production but it is too late now. d'oh.

I did some attacking today. A Privateer of mine attacked the Carrack Belle Epoque killing it. My Privateer is now elite and 4/5 :D

Other notables of his turn. I got two more Treasures and that is with four on the way to my homeland, so soon I can win this game, but I will need to build up my navy, which is what I am doing Since just got another Frigate.
GPS to the Portuguese.

Settlement Plan
Spoiler :

* Priority is Gold.

>

>
>

Sincerely the English

>
France 1537 ... Dear Sir,

I had just finished a email to you that wasn't sent (darn new beta yahoo mail). Summary of it:
- OK with settlement plan but you can take my 'spots' as I don't have enough colonizers nearby. I am settling one in around 8 turns.
- Made a mistake and send world map to Spain (instead of you). I realized and tried sending the tactical map instead (proposing a tactical map trade) hoping the later replaces the former proposal.
- I don't think we can win this game peacefully. Shall we prepare to attack someone? I crave for those Portuguese african possessions, specially Cabo Verde which is an excellent base.

Cheers Le Roy

>
Me 1537 ... Dear Sir

Have you sent an e-mail to Spain to indicate that he is NOT to accept the Map?

Portugal has Saltpeter as of this turn ... I see a colony near Soa Vicente.

Regarding War ... the easiest target is probably Dutch as I have no forces anywhere near to Portugal. However I am not at a war footing yet ... I would prefer to beat Spain to the Wonder, they have Mercantilism and he offered a trade .. did you get one as well?

Regards England

* Priority is Gold.

France 1535 ... <snip>

>
France 1538 ... I think Spain has refused my offer so he didn't get the map.

1/3 of the game is already gone... time is starting to press!

Cheers, Le Roy

>
Me 1538 ... Damn the Spanish beating me to the Smith Trading Company ... since you are researching Scientific Method, would you consider that I build Newton's as I have accumulated 211 shields and will waste them if I switch ... If not then I will build the Bank or University and get into unit production ... What do you suggest.

I will have Mercantilism in 2 turns.

I may be having troubles with the Dutch ... they have a settler waiting for I assume his 2 workers to complete a chop which is clearing terrain for a city ... I have a Temple in Baltimore so it is a race LOL

However if he builds a city next to my border I will consider it an aggressive act ... BUT they seemed to have backed off with moving his settler away.

Do you think that they would be an easy target ... we could certainly with ease blockade their capital and sink/capture their treasure ships? Or do you consider them a potential ally in a war with Spain or Portugal ... Spain is closer to us both BUT tough ... Portugal is further away from our units.

Dutch are at war with Inca ... maybe we could wait until Spain and/or Portugal joins in versus this native clearing action ... or do you want to join in and get a foothold down south?

Regards England
