I may be having troubles with the Dutch ... they have a settler waiting for I assume his 2 workers to complete a chop which is clearing terrain for a city ... I have a Temple in Baltimore so it is a race LOL
However if he builds a city next to my border I will consider it an aggressive act ... BUT they seemed to have backed off with moving his settler away.
Do you think that they would be an easy target ... we could certainly with ease blockade their capital and sink/capture their treasure ships? Or do you consider them a potential ally in a war with Spain or Portugal ... Spain is closer to us both BUT tough ... Portugal is further away from our units.
Dutch are at war with Inca ... maybe we could wait until Spain and/or Portugal joins in versus this native clearing action ... or do you want to join in and get a foothold down south?

From a geographical point of view the Dutch could be a target, but the thing is that he's not a menace. Spain is! And SPain already has 1/3 of the needed VP needed!
Wars are often more difficult than predicted, so having a war with the Dutch would get all our nations weaker while Spain got away with getting more gold and silver back to Spain!
I suggest we try to get an alliance with the Dutch against Spain. What sayest thou?

Spoiler Lurker's Only :I have managed to build the Colonial Capital in Hispaniola.
I have nine Treasures that can be returned, but I will now wait until I have enought to return them in one go before even showing that I have enough treasure to my opponents. I will finish off Coutner Reformation because it will mean that I will then be able to have Missionaries which mean I can get quick production of units sice they are only 30 gold compared to 70 gold for Knights and Conquistadors, thus I can fool my opponents into thinking that I do not have that many troops compared to them.Once I have researched Counter Reformation I will then cut off all research so that i can rush plenty of ships and Missionaries to fulfil this job.

From a geographical point of view the Dutch could be a target, but the thing is that he's not a menace. Spain is! And SPain already has 1/3 of the needed VP needed!

From a geographical point of view the Dutch could be a target, but the thing is that he's not a menace. Spain is! And SPain already has 1/3 of the needed VP needed!
Wars are often more difficult than predicted, so having a war with the Dutch would get all our nations weaker while Spain got away with getting more gold and silver back to Spain!
I suggest we try to get an alliance with the Dutch against Spain. What sayest thou?
