Also noteworthy: Carthago is the number 1 city! And Carthage is leading in a number of areas, not least literacy! :D

Okay first of all I didn't like the rate at which my HC were dying near Herat so I decided to heal them elsewhere. Since we had the agreement with Akots about not abandoning cities I was forced to leave Herat to Macedons. I din't had a single completely healed unit there this turn and I didn't want to find out the hard way how qiuckly Macedon can bring reinforcements to the front. Anyway Herat played his part well as a buffer city between growing macedon monster and my core cities so after I sold barrack and temple there I left it without regrets. Macedon won't be able to get to my another fort city Sidon in faster than 3 turn since I pillaged all the roads leading to it so my military will have just enough time to heal and to stop agressor's progress to my core cities.

No action there only 1 enemy sworsman were killed.

Meanwhile I found another 16 macedon HC 2 tiles away from my size 12 city Bactra which were left undefended. Fortunately I didn't brought all my troops to Herat and I dispersed maradeurs easily at the cost of two HC. The most funny is that agressor were so excited attacking that he left almost undefended his size 12 city New Delphi which is in immediate reach for any heavy cavalry I have in Hatra!! Anyway I counter attacked and after killing 10 enemy HC for the price of 5 of my own I captured the city eventually. Unfortunately I won't be able to hold it since it has 7-9 resisters inside not talking about Macedon army that is sitting just outside of it. :)

But the most bloody surprise is that I will lose my resources of silks and ivory next turn :crazyeye: . Those two macedon HC just appeared out of nowhere near my colonies that were in my very own backyard  . Good job Akots :goodjob:

another lurker here, pretty impressive i must say :) my hats off to carthagian ironduck, reading of pbems of this scenario on various sites, i must say he did the best against rome considering he had limited support from allies ;)

edit: i feel like a n00b, i have only 3 posts lol, im used to the hundreds i have on freelancer (another game) forums ;)

lol yes how can i forget to praise the all-mighty rubberjello? lol ;) u all did good, i just wish i got here earlier and had conquests so i could jump into the action in another pbem and get my butt-whooped a few times ;)
o well for now i'll stick to lurking

Well, depends on what do you mean by "limited".

This game is not finished yet but it has had a very complicated diplomacy in it. I wish we disclose everything in the end and analyze how did it go. This actually has resulted in a very balanced game overall without major backstabbing and with more or less honorable play and strategies which is actually amazing by itself.

I have the turn btw and will try to play today if weather permits. We are having a terrible thunderstorm in Houston.

Turn played and sent to Persia. Both Macedon and Rome are at 22% land and 36% population now (8 turns to the end of game).

Here is situation in the Persian backyard where heroic Macedonian scouts pillaged the ivory and silks.

The battle of Herat resulted in capture of the city. But there is not much to celebrate since about half of Macedoninan HCs gave their lives during this epic encounter. Persian troops have rather comfortably retreated to heal (as well as remnant of Macedonian bulk offensive) and apparently there is no way to rapidly advance over Persian core which essentially determines the fate of the game. Looks like Rome will win a well-deserved histographic victory.

Sorry for a crippled screenshot but better this than nothing.

Yeah the Rome will probably rise after all, but without Rome itself :)

i realise the game isn't finished yet, and reading through what was posted so far it seems he had an alliance with macedon, but it was more of a "wont try to kill each other" alliance, where neither side really attacked the other side's enemies, but im prepared to b very wrong once all the info is out at the end ;)

This has been a honorable game and also very well played all the way around.
:goodjob: to all involved. I look forward to the post-game analysis by
everyone :scan: which will be very interesting in itself :coffee: .

It's a bummer that I lost all my old screenshot when I messed up earlier.. I had details of almost all the battles against Rome, save for the initial loss of Sicily. The thread must read kind of weird with all the screenshots missing :(

On a different note - it's a shame the game is ending now since it was getting interesting with the fights in the east and the Roman counter-invasion and setbacks.. Rome must have enormous forces tied up in border patrol!

lol dont wry about it ironduck, its fine, i read through it after the problem and its followable, and a good read :goodjob:

Well, here's the latest going-ons in our little part of the world - still trying to push the Romans back out of Africa. They abandoned their town before I could take it, adding to the enormous piles of rubbles scattered everywhere in the region ;)

The two stacks of Romans are about 10 units each.

Next turn sent to Persia. Our militaries are now even, so Macedon got 2 cities total population 7 at the price of 150 HC and 50 hoplites. Was it worth it?

Do you really need an answer? :) The whole campaign against Persia were pointless in the first place. I control only 7 percent of population so even if I would have given you all of my cities without fight you would end up only with 44. And you couldn't really hope to conquer all of my cities in 10 turns.

Anyway the game shows that Rubberjello was too good player to play Rome and Rocinate's retirement of Persia wasn't such a bad idea after all if it would happen a little bit later. (for example if it would happen after Rome eradicated AI).

Will play my turn in the evening.
