Considering the fact Rocinante was already a replacement and that Persia's situation was quite poor I am not sure we could find someone else but we can try.
All we really need to keep this game in balance is someone to keep Persia fighting until the end, tooth and nail so to speak. If we can't find anyone, can may be one of us take over for them? I trust everyone here would do a good job of them, and not beneift their current Civ by giving away workers, money, and cities (dead giveaway!) back to their own Civ.
Akots would have to weigh in on this discussion of course.
Other than that, the only way to not guarantee a Macedonian victory would be an agreement/limited armistace between Rome and Carthage, which would be tough to negotiate and agree to terms on, but still possible.
Yep, Persia has been hammered really badly. They lost many troops. IIRC, there was a turn when they lost 12 or 16 units. But it has been a good fight. Strong resistance everywhere and a number of focused counter strikes. It has been essentially hopeless at its present situation considering the role Egypt has played. Hence, Darius fled. We let him go in peace. He was a great king of the great nation.
IMHO, Rome is too much worried. If Macedon had cheap settlers and friendly environment that would make the life much easier. But there is huge area to settle as well. IIRC, Rome is still the leading powers. We can happily combine forces with Carthage and Egypt to see who can get the larger chunk of the Roman Empire, Macedon or Carthage.
For us, unadvanced guys with expensive and slow settlers, it is easier to capture cities than to settle new.
I have not yet looked at the file. This might be needed to decide what to do. I'll load it, inspect without moving anything and post some suggestions before playing (if playing). Hope, this does not count as reloading.
I've loaded the turn and played. It is not that good for Macedon. Huge area to settle to get to 20%. I'm posting the save 140BC here.
@Random fan. It was a very difficult situation for Persia. Scourged land is not so good, it might be better played without abandoning too many cities. Also, your Empireis fairly small and each city substantially contributes to troop support. I don't know indeed. And you will have no units in Macedon territory, at least not for a long time.
IMHO, there are 4 possibilties:
1) Continue the game like it is posted. Seems the best option to me. Rome has a better chance of hitting Domination and Carthage has a good opportunity to unleash their war elephants finally to check how strong are the legions on the defensive. So far it has been a phony war.
2) Replace Persia with AI.
3) Seek an outside human replacement (Random fan)
4) Declare Macedon a winner j/k
Otherwise if Random Fan really understands how bad it is going I am OK for him to take over. Otherwise keeping on seems a possibility, especially since it means a probably more agressive game in some areas.
Well. I vote Random Fan takes over. It will be a good expierence for him, and won't take up too much of his time (unfortunately!) You usually learn alot more through defeat than triumph, I always say.
I think it is pretty obvious that it is in Rome's best interest to keep Macedonia busy fighting all the way to Persepolis. I would think it would be in Egypt's best interest also. Cleopatra should be sweating coconuts with all those Greek Heavy Cavalry on her borders! (I still think her stabbing Persia in the back was ultimately suicidal, but what is past is past)...
I don't know how Carthage views the matter yet, plusses and minusses on his side from what I can see.
I'm not getting updates to this thread again for some reason..
I vote that Random Fan takes over Persia, it leaves a weird gap in the game if Persia just vanishes. One thing that is pretty obvious is that the AI was too weak, but otherwise I've enjoyed this game so far and hope to continue to do so.
OK, so then I'm sending last save (145BC IIRC) with Persia to Random fan just to take a look at it. If he agrees, then let it be so. But expect no mercy.
I would also ask for not abandoning too many of the cities. They may flip after all.
I will send the password to Random Fan right away.
@ Rubberjello : I did not realy stab Persia in the back. I just declared war and there were no ongoing deals with Persia while I had a few with Macedonia.
The game is back on track! played ant sent it to Ironduck. And I think am going to keep on playing it and to defend till the end if I will have to. The guy has a lot of 12 size cities and may be it won't be very hard to conquer them right now but I hope it will be hard to keep them...
