C3C PBEM : Rise of Rome - scenario-based PBEM

dgfred - are you in any pbems yourself or do you strictly stick to lurking? ;)

Although Lou has asked me to play I've only been lurking so far :mischief: .
I cruise the forums from work, and play civ at home in the evenings ;) .
I have not patched at all so that is a problem too. I may enter one soon
anyway after getting things right. Which is your favorite for pbem? :scan:

I really enjoyed playing the medieval scenario as the Vikings, a rather different approach than the usual land-grabbing style, and it worked very well for me :)

A mighty battle took place in the hills southwest of the glorious city of Oea! About 60 Roman units were killed by the new Carthaginian armies that were trained in the same spirit as the brave soldiers who ventured to the heartland of Rome and destroyed its core. Once again, Carthage shall rise victoriously!

Nice work ironduck! Go Carthage Go! :goodjob: . Will you be able to hold
your other cities nearby? :scan:

Since we only have 10 turns to go I expect to (except Lilibeo that was undefended). The Romans never moved in the monstrous armies that I expected them to after they established their bridgehead. Almost a little disappointed this appears to be all they had to offer in return after destroying Rome not once, but twice! ;) You'd think that would have pissed them off, no?

 yes indeed! I remember the Romans being pretty  at the time ;) .
Who is the points leader at the moment? :scan:

The Romans are way ahead on score, it's never really been an issue who would win since I can't destroy them (they're too big) and Persia and Macedon are locked in..umm.. not sure what they're locked in, but they're just kinda sittin' there lookin' at each other ;)

Everyone expects me to break out somewhere, but why should I? Not that I was going to win this game somehow in first place. :crazyeye: The reason why we sit there looking at each other is because that our military mostly consists of heavy cavalry and the road system is developed very well. The first one who will try to cross the border will suffer huge casualities, what showed our first and the only major encounter.

How about a 10 turn power move ;) and go for broke if you have no chance
of victory anyway? Might be fun and rid you of some frustrations.

@Random fan: Yep, besides, you are constantly complaining that the game is "disgustingly quiet". Actually all you did in this game was building roads and HC, most of your HC did not even have a chance to fight. There was only one substantial battle when Macedonian general apparently has not been sober enough and moved about 50 HC into your territory which you have killed. I don't even remember seeing your units outside of your borders for a very long time except for a few workers. Yes, must admit, you survived. Being given a game in a rather unpleasant situation. But no more than just survived.

Well I wasn't supposed to make your life easier in this game in the first place :p You are the one with ambitions here so you should be the one to challenge fate and lead your brethren to battle. Do not expect the others to do your job for you, by making stupid mistakes.

It appears that the only war going on between Persia and Macedon is one on words ;)

At least the Romans and Carthaginians know how to fight with real weapons! :hammer:

The problem is that Macedon has 300 HC and Persia around 200 or slightly more. The gap is widening over time but not substantially enough to be decisive. So, Macedon risks a lot in this advance. I don't think Persia can go further then Zela but it is still substantial chunk of land. But with only 10 turns to go, I guess the risk is worth it. However, if Persia starts abandoning cities again, this would also lead to noting. I would agree to a bloodbath if Persia agrees not to abandon cities.
