Caesar: The Gallic Wars

Yeah, Rob certainly has some skill at making great female LH. Just look at his avatar!

I'm tryin to find some graphics for use as Gallic wonders. Something for Vercingetorix. I was thinking of giving him a wonder that spawns some sort of killer unit later on. Something for the venetic navy also would be nice.

I just had something good happen. A little problem got sorted more easily than I had expected. I was worried that my Channel storm units would go off exploring when I wanted them to stay in the English channel to give Caesar a headache. To me the obvious answer was to use the 'sinks in sea/ocean' flag but how? There is a stretch of ocean between Gaul and britania and that is where I want them active but I don't want them to go through the stretch of sea at the western pinensula to the Bay of Biscay. Then I saw it - the flag are independent for sea and ocean. So I made the unit sinkable in sea but not ocean. Now it should stay where it is. Only time will tell but hopefully it will work.

For the storm unit, we have to give it ample space to move around, and a movement of 2. Remember, we want the ships to be destroyed after they have landed the troops, while they are waiting to take the troops back home. To force the player to do this, we have to give the roman ships a movement of 1. This restriction will mean the player cannot simply scurry their ships to one side. In the event that the player's troops are in trouble, and cannot hold off the British onslaught, if the ships are on the wrong side, it will take several turns to move the ships across. During that time the player's troops make get destroyed. Therefore, the player's best option is to leave the ships there, or take truns to get from one side to another.

Happy Easter Everyone!

I would go with movement 3 to start with for the Roman boats. Let me explain; Movement one would mean the quickest crossing would take at least 5 turns - 10 weeks! That's not really realistic especially when you consider that the land units will all have extra movement points because of the map size. If it seems that boats are getting through too easily then we can just have more 'waves' spawned by the brits. They're support free so it won't upset anything.
My thinking is that maybe, in the end, we might have to make the boats even faster to do what you described. These waves are pretty strong, as they should be, and the Romans might have problems making it to the other side at all.
I just got home after driving 200 miles (320Km) so I'm not going to do any work today but I think I'll spend all tmrw on the mod. All LH's are done apart from Venetii and Belgica Superior. All resources (except for one or two city resources) are done. Maybe I should do more on the tech tree. What do you think?

You mentioned in another thread that you were having difficulty coming up with a leader name for the Venetii. I've found a reference to a chief named Warok, who apparently had a daughter named Trephina. So, that is what I'll name my female gallic leaderhead (which I'm about to create); perhaps you could use Warok as a military leader for the tribe?

There's previews of the new Gallic leaderheads over in my Gallic corner thread. I hope to complete these today ;) .

Great work, Rob. Pompey will go in today. I like the vanetii name also.
@ LouLong. Great to see on the new thread. Anything you can do would be most welcome. I played both Reconquista and TGA a little and came to realise that your modding ability is indeed great. What would you like to get involved in? We have very little done on governments and, although there is a rough plan, not much has been done on the tech tree. Also many building graphics will yet be needed and some units too, I think.

The second set of Gallic leaderheads is now available from R8XFT's Gallic corner :goodjob: !!

Perhaps you should put a "shopping list" of all the needed artwork? I can help with art other than leaderheads you know :cooool: .

Yes, I guess you're right. We can simply create more storm units if needed. In the event that there are too many storm units, again, we can just make the boats faster. I agree with you on the crossing of the channel, and so far, seems like the best idea.

I checked out Rob's new thread, and I liked the Pompey leaderhead. It should definitely be implemented in the mod. We might want to check out the tech tree once we have got some more of the units and improvements down. But if Loulong would like to work on the tech tree, then he can work on it. However, if might be confusing if we haven't got everything we want to put in to the tech tree.

Keep up the goodwork everyone!

Re: advisors. Yes please! Even if we do go with other playables, Roma Caesaris is the important and main one and anything else will not be taken as a priority. If you want to play as Germania, fine. It will work but without the bells and whistles. This mod is about Caesar. I want his playable to be as perfect as possible.
I'm sure Pink would be thrilled too!

yes, YES I am :goodjob: There I go for another major patch :suicide:

And, Roman advisors would enhance the quality of the game with Caesar, but would not degrade from the quality of the game with Caesar.

Awesome! I will be following this with great interest. I will just donwload it when it's finished. :)

I just ran across this, thought you might like it :)

Woah, stormrage that's awesome where'd you find that! I would love to see that in the mod! Then I will definantly play it! :D

Ah, but, this pic is for the great invasions I guess :D!
Ok, just photoshop it in order to replace these roman cities with more gallic ones, and it will do great.
