Can we please have animated avatars?

Why not allow it, but keep the file size limit so theres not too much flashness that can be done?

That won't work. Especially since there aren't many 70X70 avatars under 4.0KB. I think that TF is basing the filesize on the fact that a 70X70 png with every pixel white is Size: 537 bytes, Size on disk: 4.00 KB.
Obviously something with some actual color in it will be bigger.

When I left the civilized world for a vacation recently, I had to get used to dialup internet.

The forum became of course slow. So I disabled both avatars and signatures, and the forum is sooo much cleaner and better!!!

Okay, so did you allow it all of a sudden, because I saw someone with one. I thought it was physically allowed, as in it was impossible to upload a .gif, but someone's avatar is definitely animated. Should I report it?

It would be cool to have special animated avatars in one occasion. Halloween sp?). Imagine all avatar`s with clearly visible eyes, like my orc, or steph`s portrait phot.. Imagine their eyes blinking every few minutes. Just a quick blink an its back to normal. I bet that would freak a few people out

90% of them that I've seen have bad tastes in animated avatars. And about a fourth of those make my eyes hurt.

An avatar should just represent you in one picture. If it is animated, many pictures can be represented about you (or none... ) giving a false impression.

Not true.. i know because i have had an animated avatar at one point. Adding different frames etc, with full colour pictures is still possible.
