The first ever championship game of the Imperial Scandinavian
Varukorgboll League was held this week between two best Haraldsholm clubs, the Haraldsholm Meteorer and the Hamnkvarter VK. The game was played at the Midgard Stadion, located in the suburb of Kristinasstan on the outskirts of Haraldsholm. The sold-out arena was packed with bright shades of both red and yellow, as frenzied fans of both clubs had painted themselves with their respective team colors. The game, though sold-out, still attracted a sizable crowd who all stood outside the arena, who began a festival of eating and drinking outside. In this mob of fans, fights broke between the drunker of the supporters. Eventually the city police had the situation under control and several arrests were made.
As the situation outside Midgard heated up, the action on the court paralleled the intensity. At first, the two clubs appeared to be evenly matched, with the lead changing 19 times in the first half. However, with three minutes to spare in the half, Hamnkvarter star center fielder, Gunnar Muamba, a svarten afrikan from the Interior, went on a scoring binge. Muamba scored quadruple the amount of points the Meteorer could muster to end the half, allowing Hamnkvarter VK to pull ahead.
The situation did not improve for Coach Lukas Olander of the Haraldsholm Meteorer as within the first few minutes of the second half one of his star players, Sigge Dalgaard, one of the best shooters in the League, was injured. The sight of Dalgaard limping off the court, in addition to the score, was simply too much for some Meteorer supporters. Cries of anguish and booing began to rain down upon the Varukorgboll players. It was under this intense pressure that the true diamond of the game emerged: Adonis Stenmur. The captain of the Meteorer Club, inspired both by the distress of the fans and to support Dalgaard, took the game into his own hands and delivered. Hamnkvarter simply had no answer for the quick feet and impress strength of the inspired Haraldsholm native. Perhaps Adonis' greatest strength is his Varukorgboll intelligence: Haraldsholm Meteorer committed no turn-overs while Stenmur was playing point. Even the famed svarten Muamba, who leads the League in blocks, could not stop the rampage of Adonis.
As the game wound down, Hamnkvarter managed to come back and tie the score with two minutes left. At this point, the championship truly became an exhibition of athleticism, as both teams of six were sprinting from one side of the court to the other in a truly awe-inspiring display of intensity from both clubs. This two-minute race to the finish was led by Stenmur and Muamba, who were their team's leading scorers, respectively. However, at the forty-six second mark, a pass from Hamnkvarter guard Sörensen to Muamba was picked off by Adonis, who raced back to the opposite hoop to score. This embarrassment severely demoralized the brazen Hamnkvarter who could not score for the remainder of the game, allowing the Haraldsholm Meteorer to claim the first ever Emperor's Cup of the Imperial Varukorgboll League, with Adonis Stenmur voted the "Most Valuable Player".
As news of the victory soon spread cross-country, riots, led by both supporters of the Meteorer and Hamnkvarter VK, broke out in major population centers, but especially Haraldsholm. The Emperor has called upon the military to calm the situation, and eventually the riots broke down and peace was restored to the Empire.
With the season wrapping up, the "All-Star" team was announced. The "All-Star" team features who the league commissioners consider the best players in the league. Stenmur, Muamba, and Dalgaard all feature on this team, with Muamba being the only svarten afrikan appearing.
Adonis Stenmur, Coach Lukas Olander, and the rest of the Haraldsholm Meteorer will begin their victory parade next Sunday, starting at the Vasa Palace.
