Capto Iugulum Background Thread

Western Europe is free to make it's own decisions, so long as they're in the best interests of the entirety of Western Europe. It just so happens that German interests, and Western European interests are one in the same.

If the Abyssinian rebellion and the Adjuuramark invasion are successful, as well as inserting the loss of Spanish control over Spanish Central Africa/whatever else, this is actually a distinct possibility.

Yeah, I think they're going to lose though. There was this one post in thread of Germany or Italy saying 'our bases are yours', so there's probably going to be a massive surge in forces this year, doesn't seem Russo-Roman to do things halfheartedly, plus they don't have to worry as much about public pressure. And Adjuuramark has pretty pathetic stats, I'm guessing they will both be dead in 2-3 years.

Not if I can do something about it!

If I understand you correctly, I'd hardly consider them part of Europe, or at least a part of Europe that I am of any reasonable standing with. We have sent support, however small, to the Kongo, and if need be, will be more direct with our help, should you want it. For the sake of both the KCS, and European possessions as a whole in Africa, non-sanctioned freedom movements (Tunis being perhaps the only approved one) are to be viewed as a threat.

Also, as per the Treaty of St. Gall, any assaults on the territory, colonial or not, of a western European country will be treated as an attack on Germany itself, and we shall act accordingly. So whatever independence movements may form this turn, in Africa shall be viewed as a threat to German interests. And rebel movements would have to receive some type of funding from outside sources, which is what seems to be the KCS's biggest issue.

You must let Adjuuramark live. I'm only about to take it. It has so many possibilities...

Oh hell. I was thinking phonetically. I meant live.

The Treaty of St. Gall: said:
failure to allow for German, Swiss and Italian nationals the right to self-determination

By all means, please clarify the point: is nationalism only for white people, or only for Germans, Swiss and Italians?

Self-determination and nationalism are two different monsters in this case. The Treaty of St. Gall is also not a call toward African-wide colonial independence and interpreting it as such would be foolish.

The Revolution has been postponed to kill English people.

Self determination as a national ideology is only useful in some cases. We don't want to appear hypocritical now. :p

Keep diplomatic povs out of this thread and on the main one. This is to discuss the past and world, not the current state of affairs.

How is religion different in TTL? For example, I would assume since there has never existed a united France nor a Napoleon that regional religious and language differences have not even really started being ironed out. Is there even a Hochdeutsch in Germany or a unified French language? Are there Huguenots?

There would be no unified French language or even a sense of French nationalism, as far as I'm concerned.
