A Letter From President Wallace to the Nations of the World
Please allow us to respond to this release part by part, as it contains a good amount of information.
It has come to my attention that my nations northern neighbors have recently denounced my struggle for seeking out the support of the gratuitous people of Japan
Dai Nippon's presence in America is gratuitous, you say?
I had not realized the extent of the perversion of the American Way until the signing of the Treaty of Washington, at which point it became obvious that I had no choice, in order to save my nation, but to disavow the Charleston regime and carry on the tradition of the United States from Denver.
So, General Wallace, do you understand yourself to be the arbiter of what is necessary for the salvation of America? More to the point, do you see the American public's access to democracy to be a 'perversion', something which America must be rescued from? Vinland finds this to be quite telling.
As the United American Republic was and is nothing more than a region in rebellion, and due to the fact that, for all intents and purposes, the Second Union is a direct continuation of it, we do not see why we should recognize the legitimacy of it.
Again, we believe you should recognize its legitimacy because it is the legal successor of the Charleston government to which you once professed your allegiance. Your reasons, dubious as they are, for abandoning this loyalty have been noted before, so you need not repeat them.
If Vinland wishes to allow rebels to subvert a nation, then they would have never deported the refugees in western Vinland to United States.
OOC:
What.
IC: We do not understand what your press release means by this. As it is, it seems that you are saying that if we wanted rebels to harm an unspecified nation, then we would have kept all of the refugees in Western Vinland... which is nonsensical as well as confusing. We do not wish for rebels to subvert any nation, ours or others, and we deported some of the refugees due to their refusal to obey the laws of our nation. Could you perhaps clarify what you mean by this oddly-worded, tense-confused statement?
Many of our enemies state that, by not immediately recognizing and joining the Second Union, millions of people will die.
Had you immediately recognized and joined the Second Union, your combined forces could have forced a swifter and much less bloody resolution to this conflict than what we are currently experiencing.
The Allied Territories of America was merely a conglomeration of the various military districts that had found themselves no longer under the leadership of the Federal government.
This, General Wallace, is revisionist. The Allied Territories are a conglomeration of military districts united by an individual, yourself, in order to preserve order in the name of the Federal Government. Towards this goal, regrettably, you have wandered badly astray.
The Allied Territories has been committed and actively engaged in the cause of restoring the Federal Government under the Scott Constitution, though we view that a new constitution is a necessity that will be met in due time.
The Scott Constitution quashed civil liberties throughout the United States and condemned America to decades of military dictatorship. The less of it that remains, the better, and delaying the creation of a new constitution is indefensible at this juncture, given how the Second Union has already created such a document.
However, my struggle is not only to see the United States restored, but to see it return as a strong nation with the capability to take a position of leadership in the world.
An honourable goal in broad scope, though your details leave much lacking. How will America achieve this greatness and leadership if it falls back into the same despotic trap that led it to ruin the previous time around?
Fundamentally, Vinland's only real concern is to see that the United States is a Vinlandic and Brazilian puppet state.
If we wished to see America subordinate to Vinlandic interests- which is an idea so unrealistic as to be laughable- then we would support your independence and strive to keep America as divided as possible. In this state, Vinland would so that we would be able to establish ourselves as the premier power of the continent.
The fact is that they fear the might of the American people, because as a united house, we cannot and have not been defeated.
Again, were this the case, why would we try to unite you? Your argument would work if we were trying to prevent American reunification.
The opportunists who seek to capitalize on our current divided house do nothing but wish to see the American people exploited for their own gain.
If we intended to 'capitalize on [your] divided house' then we would not have pursued this course of action. We intend to see the Allied Territories reunited with the Federal Government, for the establishment of a lasting peace on the continent.
If the war hawks in Brazil and Vinland wish to wage war on the United States, then by all means we will give them a fight they will never forget. We seek to create a new Union not based on fear as our enemies say, but on the noble principals of patriotism and conservatism. Our struggle is noble in it's cause, and in the end we will prevail.
Your devotion is to a cause that has not received the democratic support of the American people. You presume to know what your nation needs, but fear to stand before a crowd of your peers, the people, and face their judgement in a genuine, multiple-candidate democratic election. Your struggle is not noble, it is stubborn and narcissistic.
Take from this what you will, but the American people are moving on without you, General Wallace. You can rage and struggle against these tidal changes in our world, and be defeated, your name held in ignominy for years to come. Alternatively, you can still reach out to the Second Union. As you said, the ceasefire has been maintained, there has not yet been bloodshed to generate bad feelings. Rejoin the Federal Government, as you once swore you would. Strive to achieve these changes through the power of speech, making use of your own charisma, not through force of arms. If the America you speak of still exists, then you shall find its support.
