Hey there everyone. Fairly new to the mod. Love it, but having some trouble learning the ins-and-outs of the system. Wanna play Carthage, as they and their leader are historically one of my favorites. Got a few questions though

1. Is it worth focusing on winning the Punic Wars in the early game, or should I sue for peace and focus elsewhere?

2. The UHV seems to require focusing pretty hard on either Settlers or conquering Roman cities along the Mediterranean. Any tips on that one? Where can I get the dye?

3. Stability is really hard to keep up. I usually collapse around the rise of the European civs, even if I've beaten Rome and maintained a strong economy [not hard, with lots of coastal cities, the Great Lighthouse, and cottages] Any tips?

4. Good city locations? I've noticed the Iberian peninsula is pretty nice, with a city planted on the left coast getting a ton of resources [couple horses and a cow for one, along with the seafood] and the right coast being an early source of iron, but that takes me out of my [admittedly tiny] 'safe zone' for growth. And roughly how fast should I be building/conquering cities to avoid collapse?

1. Build Carthage
2. Load horsies onto the galleys and use them to easily destroy Greece. Use 2nd settler to build Barca beside the Dye in Egypt.
3. Load them into the galleys again. Conquer Palestine and help the Persians destroy Babylon by killing Babylonian units and making sure Persia is at war with them. ((Tip -> use mercenaries as they are cheaper than normal))
4. Build Caravels fast so you can discover that the earth is round first.

Not that hard.

Ignore Rome, just take Athens and the two independent cities (using mercenaries)
Then get Calender and setup dye plantations.
Then get optics and circle the world!

No need in conquering Rome though you can found Rome instead of Carthage as your capital (then build Carthage AFTER roman flip just to save the city Rome since it will be only one your city and won't flip) and ensure that romans start somewhere in Yugoslavia. Send one galley to New Zealand to save several turns while circumnavigating.

I thought squatting doesn't work anymore?

Yeah squatting only one city is still possible since you can't remain with zero cities. And you even won't get any offer to give the city to teh romans.
Though I think no civ apart from Carthage would have an advantage with this kind of sqatting.

No benefit, if you forgot -- squatting is no more with two or more cities. Now may beeline Music and bomb GA to push poor portugese somewhere far away.

Best strategy that I have perfected,

1st: ignore the historical missions and messing with Rome.
2nd: conquer Egypt imediately with the soldiers you start with, if you aren't able to not the end of the world.
3rd: found christianity and above ALL build the great wall.
4th: get privateers at least a 100 turns before anyone has frigates.
5th: RULE THE SEAS, BLOCKADE EVERYONE AND COLONIZE!
