Cats and Kittens

I shall investigate.
Gently place your finger under the throat, just enough to try to feel if there's a vibration. You don't want to scare the cat into thinking you're trying to cut off their breathing.

I just did this with Maddy and it's very easy to tell if she's purring even when it's very quiet.

Honestly, when feeding is going on, humans need to STFU and leave. You don't want to interrupt, as the mother may decide to wean too early just to get away from the stress.

She often gets pissed even when no one present. I hear her in the other room.

As a sign of love, my kitties have brought me a dead shrew..............

Did you praise them? When my dad's cat left me a dead mouse on the back porch, I thanked him and told him what a good cat he was, and that it was really thoughtful of him to bring me food (since he usually ate the mice himself and left the remains in a mouse cemetery in the cellar in my dad's "granny flat" he built in the garage). After he left I just quietly disposed of the mouse in the garbage.

The other day I was listening to Maddy purr... and realized that she purrs in the key of A major.
