Caveman 2 Cosmos

Guys something bothering me. I ever heard somewhere here that on Civ IV cpu speed is determining the intra-turn loading while RAM is determining how large the map your rig can support. And i ever heard that due to the way it was made CiV can only handle 3.25 GB (or was it 4 GB) or so. My rig is i3 2310 (2.2 GHZ) 4GB ram and GT 560M (1 GB dedicated) and i always play in map no larger than standard. By having 4 GB, does it theoretically means that i can handle the largest map? I always play in standard and never reached industrial era due to either MAF or CTD ;/. Would let say having 6 GB makes any difference in performance?

Weeks :p try months. . . And i cant say for sure about the GEM map, i believe it has not been updated to OUR current status for the last 2 months or more, so its way behind, (I believe) i might be wrong.

Yeah its been a long time since I played a game into the later eras. I never seem to get there since the mod is always changing and I want to test out earlier era stuff and thus start a new game. Hopefully focusing on the later eras will keep me from starting up a new game. :p

Well, since nobody replied to my previous post I'll ask again:undecide: I have serious problem with city maintenance cost ( it is multiplied by 175%) Not the city distance and number but the overal maintenance cost including the buildings. And since I know only 2 buildings that can affect maintenance cost at current game stage the total increase can't be more than 30-40% but I have damn 175% with courthouse. I may be wrong with thread but never had this problem before and actualy don't know how to solve it

Actually, quite a few buildings increase the direct city maintenance cost since what used to be -gold is now given over to city maintenance expense. It's probably not something you'll be able to eliminate but some civic choices can make it easier... You'll need to just really make gold a higher priority now than it used to be. I'm finding its much tougher now to keep gold income in the positive now.

That is for sure, i can hardly keep my slider above 50%:p BUT then again there in-lies the "challenge."

Guys, are any of you experiencing trouble in v27 with "black terrain" tiles?
Every time I start the mod, I end up with something like the screenshot below.
The problem seems to be with just this mod as others I've played work just fine. I have an 2gb NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 graphic card with drivers updated. I would appreciate any solutions or suggestions to solve this problem.
Thanks in advance.

After some weeks of perfect work , this mod ( without any great problem before ) has stopped to load : when i load the mod from "Load a mod" and i have it in the correct folder , the game simply does CTD , any ideas ?

I play on a MacBook Pro (2.2GHz Intel Core i7, 8GB RAM, AMD Radeon HD 6750M) running bootcamp with Windows 7, and I've been experiencing the same problem since version 24, admittedly I haven't started v.27 yet, as I want to finish my v.26 game for once; but my solution is to let the game boot up with the broken graphics once and then re-instal the mod completely (fresh from the compressed file, including the v.26 patch) and it works. A little inconvenient, but a price I'm totally willing to pay to play the best mod for the best game. Although a better solution wouldn't go amiss.

Its actually not so far behind. Its not missing any game changing resources that are needed military wise.
As far as I know, I'm missing Kangaroos (Australia is a broken starting position anyhow, no local challenger, pretty open for animal hunting which is critical early game, and once you navigate the coral reef... quite open to the rest of Oceania), Henna and Indigo.
I think I can place the Geodes, but again, not a game changer and same with Fossils.
It should still be relative to v27, but I have no confirmation.
The flags are messed up (from them changing around I think), but I had that fixed on my laptop (in for repairs).

I'm interested in the 2012 scenario. That will be a lot of work Kiwitt.

CPU does help with intra-turn loading, but python scripts are single threads, so will take time to process. If you have a Windows 64-bit OS installed, you can run larger maps as you would have a full 4 GB available for Civ 4. This is because Civ 4 BTS is large address space aware. I discovered this with my initial Vista 64-bit (now moved to Windows 7 64-bit).

However, it tends to be graphics memory it runs out of. Enabling viewports helps a lot with that, but they still have some rough edges you have to tolerate if you go that route.

Would there be differences if i have more than 4 GB though? .
C2C is so heavy to run indeed. It's pushing my cpu usage to 98-100 %..

@Koshling. Viewport is so helping indeed once i managed to adapt on the edge thingy :D

Btw i really love the way you guys revamped the civic. Nice work :goodjob:

No, anything above 4G is irrelevant to Civ4 because it's a 32-bit process.

Gamefront still lists C2C as an unavailable file. Is there not somewhere else this mod can be hosted? I would really rather not muck about with Desura. It's a bit silly, to me, to have to download something just to download something.

Edit: GRRRRR. I finally just broke down and downloaded Desura and it's downloading v 23, not v 27. Does someone here have a working mirror or a torrent, please?

Incorrect.

With more than 4 GB, your operating system and other background programs can use what you have over.

Say you had 6 GB like me on Windows 7x64

up to 4 GB is used by Civ 4 BTS as a 32-bit process within the 64-bit system.
then the remainder is used for running Windows, etc.

Oh Sh!!! I have been playing v23 then.

OK downloading version V27 now. :)

That was fun while it lasted ;)

Hotrodlincoln (I love the song btw): I was having the same problems, but you don't need Desura. Just register an account at ModDB; Then get and reply to the confirmation email; Then login to ModDB. When you get to the window with the video and the download from gamefront link look to the right hand side. There will be another text link asking if you want to download from another mirror. Click on that, then choose a ModDB server near to you with available capacity.

Any chance of a Hub Script for this ?

I calculate that at my current rate of play I'll be in the Industrial Era by mid-December (at about 30 turns per day, on average). Let's see if I can keep it both working and challenging until then.
