Caveman 2 Cosmos

and a question, I had an elephant rider attack a bandit footpad inside a friendly city. First notification said I won but then the unit dissapeared and a text said tht both units had been burried in a tomb (of some name I can remember)? never seen that happen before so I'm more interested in what feature that is and what it does?

There are a couple of buildings that may cause that. One is a wonder and the other is an extension to the castle. ;)

I've just downloaded the mod and was able to extract it. i placed it in the BTS mods folder and named the folder caveman2Cosmos but when it i try to load the mod it does not work. it begins the usual loading screen then freezes. Any help would be appreciated

It can take a long time to start, there is a lot of XML that needs loading. First time can take minutes, it does get faster the second and subsequent times.

Actually if you have an older PC it could take up to 15 minute the FIRST time, after than less than a minute.

when i try playing a game with a friend we keep getting the OOS sync error, is there a way to fix this?

See the Multi-Player thread, and ask and post info there, thx.

forget about mp games in c2c, i tried dozens of times with dozens of versions. It starts ok, but after 100 turns it oos'es non stop.
try AND

i actually play AND1.74h for 3 years in mp with games lasting 20-60 hours with very few oos.

We're working on fixes to all OOS reports rather aggressively at the moment. Yes, its frustrating for those of us who play MP games but resolution is on its way. Recognition of how important it is to make sure these get resolved does exist.

Is this with V26 or the SVN? Because the SVN is a lot more MP stable now than V26 was.

Well... my wife and I will find out soon anyhow. Yes, what should've been a powerful OOS fix has just been made but there still could be a lot more to uproot. Point is, if you run across them and post the OOS reports it would help us to create a more MP friendly mod all in all. Its very important for us to do so.

I could not have said it any better ;)

I tried. There are 3 people that I play with, we all have day jobs and we have few hours each evening to spend playing. Multiple times I tried to play mp games and even when some oos bug got fixed, there's immediately another one. So if it's ~3 hours each evening and after 10 hours of play that we get non stop oos => we just wasted (# of persons x 10 hours) of our time. I work as a programmer and the way this mod is developed, it will never be free of bugs. I understand it's fun to add new things and fixing bugs leads to burnout, but by the same token if the code is not frozen and bugs ironed out before adding more code changes, you'll never have a stable mp games. I wasted maybe 100 hours on this mod, keep hoping that this time it will work better. But it does not. Even RAND v2.0 when it brought in c2c changes, it has enough oos that it's unplayable either. Hence I am sticking with AND 1.74h
You have to be realistic (and maybe you should all play mp games with each other? 100 turns and it's guaranteed to blow up) about the stability of the mod and if history is any teacher, it is not stable in mp games based on my experience of numerous attempts over 2-3 years.

I have personally no info on MP instability, but in Hot Seat it is as stable as Single player.
So instead of wasting 3 hours each day on MP you guys maybe should waste 10 hours on Sunday at someone-else home? Or maybe play by email with hot seat?

Wow... terribly pessimistic aren't you? And if you're a programmer, why aren't you helping us solve them??? We have two great programmers on the team who are working hard to fix these problems now. We WILL uproot them all eventually. And from that point, its not difficult to make sure we test code revisions as they come in and make sure to catch those that cause trouble and resolve them quickly.

There WAS a point right after my return when OOS's really only took place when the pathing engine attempted to send our units through enemy territory. So we're NOT actually all that far off from fixing them all.

People like you who do not make OOS reports but complain about time wasting due to OOS should think about their attitude.
I fix OOS errors as I get proper reports with the necessary logs but for months I did not get a single one. This fixing is done in the same free time that you use to enjoy yourself playing games and later come to us to complain how you wasted your time and that we are all doing it wrong and you know better.

Since there have been proper OOS reports recently, the root causes of some of the most common OOS have been fixed.

:agree: I would also like to point out that in my 30 years as a programmer/designer I have found it very rare for any software to be bug free while in development. Especially so with stuff you get for free.

Hey Strategyonly;

I downloaded C2C a couple of days ago and am so far quite enjoying it.

One thing I noticed though is that some of the technologies won't load when you click on them in the tech tree (for instance; Nomadic Lifestyle). It is not a big deal, as I can look at the powers through the civipedia, but it does get tedious after a while.

Still though, this mod is totally awesome!

Yes... This mod is massive and understands only it's ambition to become effective a de facto expansion...with each 5 updates the equal of a expansion.

Seriously. How can one fix something if they are not aware of the issue? :crazyeye: The only way any of us can fix bugs is for people to report them. Likewise I think we do a damn fine job considering we all do this for free.

So thank you everyone on the team and everyone who has reported bugs. With out you we could not make C2C the awesome mod it is today.

The mod is awesome, but the more useless buildings you are adding to it (and there are plenty of them)the less funny it gets and less competent AI is to keep up with human players.. Endless and endless city management even with city queues and poor AI is what prevents this to become absolutely best mod ever made. I would really appreciate a possibility to somehow allow player to pick buildings which he simply doesn't want to be offered to build in city screen and perhaps even let him prohibit AI to build them the same way.

I recently played Rhyes and Fall of Civilization - Europe and its way better in the matter of warfare and world is much more alive there. New Empires unexpectedly dawn from the ashes of former empires. Although its completely different mod and revolutions are kinda scripted there but they work well. You cannot expand more than stability of your empire allows you or cities will start declaring independence without warning and you will get to civil war. On the contrary its quite easy to handle your empire together in C2C. And Im not sure if its a good thing to be able to spread your culture this easily because AI doesnt use cultural units(except for great artists). I take a few units spreading culture with me on every city conquest and the same turn I take city the riot is gone. Then I quickly send there buttload of them until my culture is significant and in the meantime I move my stack to another city..

Otherwise I really appreciate what you are doing here, you did great job with improving speed and stability and tech tree is just something that man will fall in love with as soon as future techs are done. Oh yea and I cant wait for multimaps..

Btw will v27 be out this weekend?
