CDG Series Discussion Thread

Also, which civilization do you think would be the most interesting for this challenge? Siam maybe?

I would suggest Germany => you can use the UB either to :
  • take Freedom and use the trade routes for Treaty Organisation and the extra production to make Panzers you then gift to the other CS using Arsenal of Democracy or use to liberate the map
  • take Autocracy and use the extra production to get an OP military score and use Gunboat Diplomacy while you liberate the map

I would also suggest using some sort of Continents map script and having someone like Genghis on the other continent so you have some work to do after Astronomy ;)

I love achievements A, B and C !

I have a suggestion for an interesting France CV challenge if you want to hear it (yeah I know I need to finish the Celts map first but I'll get back to it eventually...) :)

Oh I love that idea! Exactly what I was looking for. Germany it will be! Panzers also come at the right time when you will need to make your last diplomatic push and you need to make a tech detour to get them (or not, your choice). UA also helps you save some money.

Concerning achievement D, I think I will make it much easier, but not completely remove it.

D. Efficient investments: lose 0.25pt per gold gift to a CS if "Gold gifts are not more effective" after adopting an ideology (rounded down)
You can gift up to 3K gold for 0 point
You can gift up to 7K gold for -1 point
You can gift up to 11K gold for -2 point
etc.
(Possibly more if you go for Charitable Missions)

I mean how much money do you drop down on average in a diplomatic game? Maybe around 10-15K? You just will have to be creative to fill the 7-12K gap.

So is the penalty per gift instance not for the amount?
I think I like a quarter point per 250 gold (after Ideologies). That is a better balance against the buy-them-all-at-the-end strategy.

Also, there is a (single use) CS quest for gold gifts that is different than the “gold gifts are more effective” (which runs for 30 turns). I would argue that neither should be penalized.

The gift should be cumulative after adapting ideology. So gifting 4x 250 is exactly the same as 1k. However, 1k gift often will give more influence than 4x 250.

So what is the next map? Celts and America have been done. Donkeyfish and Shark Diver are MIA.
So that leaves us with Consentient's (secret ) Sweden map and my upcoming Germany map.
So the question is: do you guys want to play two Diplo games in a row?

I have a suggestion for a culture game with France if you want.

The achievements would be something like :
A. Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité : finish the Liberty policy tree (2pts) get at least one level 3 tenet in Freedom (1pt)
B. Guerre de Cent Ans (A Hundred Years' War) : stay at war with someone for at least 116 consecutive turns (3pts), 1 bonus point if it is France's archenemy
C. 1001 châteaux : build at least X château tile improvements :
  • 10, 1 pt
  • 15, 2 pts
  • 20, 3 pts
  • 25, 4 pts
  • 30, 5 pts
D. L'Art de la Table (Art of the Table) : at some point in the game, be exporting at least one food related luxury to every other remaining civ (2pts), 2 bonus points if you are exporting Wine to everyone (eligible food luxuries are Wine, Citrus, Cocoa, Salt and Crabs).
E. Ville Lumière (City of Light) : build Notre-Dame, Louvre and Eiffel Tower in Paris (1 point each), 1 bonus point if you don't build any other wonders in Paris.

Oponents would be something like :
Spoiler :

England for sure ^^ Then maybe Rome or Greece to fight for the expansion spots.

Not sure what map script I should use.

Any suggestions are welcome :)

I'm not saying you shouldn't make the next CDG a France map, and it's still your call of coruse, but I'm releasing the next Deity Challenge tomorrow, which is France.

If I had to make a suggestion for CDG, what about something simple, after the madness of the Celts and the sheer size of the America map?

Roman wide science or something?

Yeah I know and I agree. I think I'll have to roll a bunch of maps to get what I want so it will definitely not be ready before July anyways. I'm eager to try your France map too because the changes to the UA look pretty neat :)

Roman wide science or something?

I haven't tried Liberty SV yet, I would be glad to get something like that :)

Roman wide science is a good idea but bear in mind, the expansion penalties are quite harsh and you might end up in constant war all game long because reasons

All these great ideas! But it sounds to me like only DQ's France Germany map is ready to go. I think it is more important for us to keep posting something every couple of weeks than the variety.

I'll happily make a great Sweden map so as to avoid a clash? :)

I've said a few times now that I don't care about achievements. You guys can make them.

I'll go for HB Continents, low sea level, Cold, chosen AIs that do well in cold, sparse Resources (although I'll make the start reasonable), intended VC as Dom or CV

Maybe 1 of them could be something to do with Gifted Great People, but beyond that, I don't know.

I'll have the map ready in a few hours

France achievements

I like your France achievements: simple and the theme is strong. You will need however to get a map where there is a lot of place to expand and that has a lot of wine (maybe some extras in some "risky/contested lands"). Otherwise, it might turn in a forced Dom game. (Or is that the goal?) You need at the very least 10 luxuries including 7 wines in your territory to get all achievement points (unless you eliminate an AI).
Notre-Dame is hard to get on deity, but that is ok. Also, is it possible to get the bonus point for achievement E if you do not built all three wonders?

Just a few suggestions.

A. : Gift at least X Great People to CS
  • 4 : 1 point
  • 6 : 2 point
  • 8 : 3 point
  • 10 : 4 point
  • 12 : 5 point

B. : train at least 10 Hakkapeliita and keep them the entire game (they can be upgraded), 3 pts
C. : train at least 10 Caroleans and keep them the entire game (they can be upgraded), 3 pts
D. : have a Hakkapeliita with a stacked Great General take a city, 1 pt
E. : at some point in the game be friends with all the known remaining civs, 4 pts

That doesn't add up to 20 points though...

Well, you can either conquer the land or settle it yourself, the goal is to win a wide CV through a lot of Chateaux. If you eliminate a civ or get violent CV in the process, it's your call ;)

The question of luxuries is why I said I'll have to roll a lot of maps to get what I want. That's also why I asked for advice on the map script I should be using. I'm only familiar with the standard ones but they tend to give boring maps most of the time and I'm not familiar with the good mod scripts I could be using. I'm also undecided on a Pangea or Continents kind of map.

I know Notre-Dame is tough and potentially asks for a pretty big tech detour. I'm not expecting many people to get that point frankly :D And yes, the bonus point applies if you only get a subset of those wonders.

OK the map is ready to play. I'll let you guys sort the achievements out, and when you're done, I'll update the OP, OK?

I like Max's points for Sweden, post 355 above.

I wanted to add something silly like "Have Alfred Nobel bulb and discover Dynamite" but apparently he isn't in the game (a big flaw IMVVHO ^^). I haven't played the map yet but I guess Babylon isn't in ? (they're not so much about tundra obviously) Otherwise something like "Have a Great Musician make a concert tour next to the rivers of Babylon" could do it :D
