ooc:hey raisin, recently Got baldurs 2, giving it a try and I’m still stuck on the first level, mostly because I tried a thief the first time, didn’t like that, tried a mage, okay but still weak, whats a good choice?
Also, I have a feeling that thief girl who lets you out of the cage is going to die soon, never played the game but I just want to see if my hunch is correct
OOC: Like all the official D&D PC game the best character is always a paladin.
BG 2 is begging you to take a paladin with the "Inquisitor" Kit.
The inquisitor kit is amazing all along the game. You cannot cast priest spells but its a small price to pay to have all the rest.
IIRC you start with
true sight twice a day. With this you disable all illusions, invisibility, blur and mirror image. (Really really really helpful)
You also start with some
Dispel magic
You are immune to Charm and hold spells.
The most powerful weapons and armors are made for paladins. The casomyr sword is the best sword in the game, Yes yes it dispels magic on each hit .... hits at 10+5, protects the weilder against evil.
If you are smart you complete you paladin sidequests fast and you get the "Pride of the Legion +2". A kick ass armor good for 3/4 of the game.
I finished the game 2 times. Now I have a savegame from a new game I started 6 months ago but left sitting in my PC somewhere.
The first time I took a paladin and I kicked the game's ass.
The second time I took a mage: Vladek Maus. I did kick the game's ass but from a different angle. Mages are also a good choice for game items .... I took the
Conjurer school of casting for my mage.
The most important thing is to build a good party with the npc available.
Keldorn is always a good choice if you are not a paladin.
Inquisitor
Human, Lawful Good, Male
Str 17, Dex 9, Con 17, Int 12, Wis 16, Cha 18
Minsc is a brute and will kick uber ass if you specialise him in the "Two weapons style" and
Katana. There is a Katana in the temple district called celestial fury. That blade is amaising. It stuns when it hits. A katana hits the same as a two handed sword but its only a 1 handed weapon. With the two weapons style minsc can weild 2 katanas without penalities. Celestial fury in one hand and Hindo's Doom (
throne of bhaal expansion) Minsc is litterally a mean evil killing machine.
Ranger
Human, Choatic Good, Male
Str 18/93, Dex 16, Con 16, Int 8, Wis 6, Cha 9
Anomen is also a good choice .... He's a
Cleric/Fighter
Human, Lawful Neutral, Male
Str 18/52, Dex 10, Con 16, Int 10, Wis 12, Cha 13
Jan is a funny ass gnome Mage thief. Is dialogue text is funny as hell always talking about turnips. But its nice to have a thief that can cast a few spells.
The only drwback is that he's a whipm and need to protect him a lot.
Illusionist/Thief
Gnome, Chaotic Neutral, Male
Str 9, Dex 17, Con 15, Int 16, Wis 14, Cha 10
For the sixth member you have the choice bwtween a good mage or a good druid.
Edwin is a kick ass mage but is evil. He's evil, he gets into arguments and if you dont handle the situations by not saying the right things he can fight a party memeber and leave the party.
Conjurer
Human, Lawful Evil, Male
Str 10, Dex 10, Con 16, Int 18, Wis 10, Cha 10
And there is Jaheira or cernd.
I hate Jaheira, I dont like druids. The, tree hugging, I love everyone equally and life is whitin us all, edge gets on my nerves.
Anyhow .... Jaheira is a druid the can wear a full plate. Its good. I never took her in my partys but my friend did. He tells me shes creat when her levels are high.
Fighter/Druid
Half-Elf, True Neutral, Female
Str 15, Dex 17, Con 17, Int 10, Wis 14, Cha 15
Cernd is a druid with the "shapeshifter" kit. He can transform in a warewolf, that is exellent. He can also cast summon elemental without having to go into a mental challenge with the elemental to control it like the mages have to do. all in all he's a good choice if you want a druid.
Shapeshifter
Human, True Neutral, Male
Str 13, Dex 9, Con 13, Int 12, Wis 18, Cha 15
These are my choices.
As for Imoen ...... Its a spoiler but not a big one.
As soon as you will get out of the dungeon you are in she will leave your party. You will be in Athkatla. Spell casting outside is forbidden and imoen will be taken away and emprisonned. You can get her back in your party later around the end of chapter 3 IIRC. By that time you and your party member will have a lot more experience than her. She he's a handicap kinda so I never took her in my party.
There you go. Sorry its longwinded but I played this game a lot and read tons of walkthroughs.
Good game!
P.S.: To get Casomyr you must defeat a red dragon
(side-tip : Accept Yoshimo in your party but get rid of him before going to the asylum.)
EDIT: Im updating the game now
