When 1.8 comes out and stabilizes there will be two servers connected by a portal: Gargamel (and only gargamel) and then the main server with a full normal, nether, skyland, space stack. They will be connected by interserver portals. Gargamel can remain survival server and that means shared inventory and dynamic market. Or gargamel can be switched to creative but separate inventories.
Now that we got news 1.9 is going to need new chunks here is my current plan:
Keep existing server in place as is until 1.9. For 1.8 add second server with one new world connected via portal. This server will be pvp focused and be a temporary world, yet shares dynamic market and economy. Inventory will transfer.
The developer of the program that I used to make the static map fell off the face of the Earth and so will have issues come 1.8. All of the other mappers are either unmaintained or don't produce quality image. For now I am switching to using the dynamic map, which has a number of bug fixes and a new feature for towny! The new link for the dynamic map is updated in the op.
Yeah... XP orbs go crazy. Tried it two times today, one of them made our hosting pc freeze for an hour...
For now, don't play multiplayer in 1.8 if people can die. This is more up to the players than croxis. Or can players be locally invulnerable in the 1.8 server?
Hmm. I guess that could work, but I don't think it'd allow people to have full enjoyment of the new things. (Creative, to me, is something you do after you've tried out the possibilities of a limited resource management system.)
