CFCOT Meetup: Washington DC: May 16th, 6 PM

How much of a pain in the ass is it to park in the city? I'm going to have a car in the area, but would it be easier to park it and get on a train from somewhere outside the city? I'm going to be staying in Charles Town, WV, (not Charleston) if that makes any difference.

A real big pain in the ass. Finding spots on the street will be lucky, at best. Public lots are expensive. It'd be best maybe to drive to a Metro station like Rockville or one of the far North stations, park, take the subway in, and then out. However, it might be worth it to take a train from Frederick. If you do go to Murphy's, it might be worth it to take your car.

Let's put it this way: when my family goes into DC to go to a museum or on a field trip or something, we park at Franconia Springfield metro and ride in. We don't find it worth the hassle. If you don't know where you're going or where there's a good place to park, I'd just ride the metro in. That way, at worst, you have to do a little extra walking. But if you drive in, you might end up circling around looking for some place to park, while Downtown gives out all the high fives. :p

Parking in the city isn't that bad. I always get parking on Independence or Constitution, and it's free on the weekends. You guys are blowing this a bit out of proportion.
I think you're just trying to monopolize the Downtown, because you know Lucy is more delicious than you, and she'll get more attention.

Unless the meeting place is near there, that is probably out of the way walking-wise.

Okay, so no car, unless maybe Murphy's.

But this Murphy's sounds like an alcohol-serving establishment. I usually like to have alcohol-serving establishments serve me alcohol (y'all'll like to have 'em serve me alcohol too, I promise), and I don't need to get a DUI at all, let alone 400 miles from home. Is this place within reasonable walk-to-train distance? Are we set on this place?

There's a Metro stop within walking distance of the pub. We can take Metro from inside the city.

If it's where I think it is, then either Crystal City or Pentagon City stops are close to it.

But if we are settling on Murphy's, we need to pick a time. Is this lunch or dinner?

The stop would be King Street, actually. Murphy's is on King Street.

Gotta be a dinner-ish, say 5-6 for beer (or root beer for downtown), food. There's places in Olde Town to hang out afterwards

6 PM on that friday would work best for me. I'm more likely to be really busy that saturday, since its our last weekend in town.

This will be fun. I've never been to that side of town before.

So we're pickin' times, have we even picked a day? Saturday is definitely best for me since I'm not even absolutely certain I'm gonna be able to get down there at a reasonable hour on Friday. Or were we working with Friday?

EDIT: Guess I'm gonna have to make Friday work, huh? I'll be sure by this Tuesday. :)

 I don't wanna know the things she does to you!
I wouldn't be a client of hers, that would be too weird.

And it turns out I probably won't even be going to Florida with her. It simply will be too expensive for me and I'll be working at that time. So I'll be 2,600 (or so) miles away in Cali, wishing you guys the best. :)

If it does end up being in Old Town on Friday evening, that works out great for me; my girlfriend and I always end up doing something in Old Town around that time, and I might be able to talk her into coming along.

Well Eran, I didnt know you were in my area. Yeah, seems that place has what most folks are looking for, and its decidedly less of a pain to park while still being a happening place.

Foggy Bottom Representin' yo.

Ima gonna try and get copies of mah CDs for anybody who wants one. I think at this point, we're pretty much just giving them away
