CFCOT Meetup: Washington DC: May 16th, 6 PM

Foggy Bottom Representin' yo.

Ima gonna try and get copies of mah CDs for anybody who wants one. I think at this point, we're pretty much just giving them away

Hell yeah! I tried emailing you a couple times but never got a response. I'll pay ya for 'em if you want. I mean, if you want to give 'em away for nothing, that's awesome too. :D

Downtown,

I'll throw in a Root Beer for your CD if you'll give me an autographed copy :P

Hey, if people want to throw in a few bones for the "Downtown Metro Fare and Drinks Fund", I'm not going to turn your money away :)

The email and paypal system sort of fell apart, as we ended up losing our distribution guy, and none of us really took the energy to set it back up again, since we can't tour to support it.

So yeah. This should give me enough time to order a few more CDs. I only have two more on my person right now, and they're committed to a few ladies

Well DT, you get me a CD, and Ill send a copy down to an Atlanta producer if I like it. The guy owes me a few favors since I helped him pass some GaTech courses.

Actually, the Murphy's I was referring to is actually in DC, not the old town Alexandria Murphy's. Here's a pic:

Murphy's of DC
2609 24th St NW
Washington, DC 20008

It's by the Omni Shoreham hotel, near the Woodley Park metro station. Their bartenders are verra good. I've been to both Murphy's of DC and Murphy's Grand Irish Pub in Old Town Alexandria and think that the former has the latter beat in the food department.

Is this the one right near Connecticut Avenue?

I got a question for you all, since you keep bringing up using the DC Metro, how reliable is the WMATA anyway? I keep thinking about visiting DC again, without having to go to a specific place at a specific time like it was the previous time (won't be for a while now since I'm moving out of New York), but I'd have to make do with mass transit. Might as well ask here since you guys are familiar with the system, even if I can't make this meetup.

I'll bring a bottle of Autocrat for anybody, as a good ambassador must. ;) And I insist on buying a beer for anyone of legal drinking age.

Alright, since you keep talking about it, I finally bought one off of their site (free shipping, so why not?). When it arrives, I'll be sure to tell you just how it was, but I can't afford any champagne rooms for you.

And I still ain't calling it "coffee milk."

In my experience, the metro is usually fairly reliable. It's not luxury accommodations, but it gets you where you need to go, and isn't outrageously expensive.

My only complaint with the Metro system is that it doesn't run 24 hours a day, causing downtown to sometimes cut his nights a little short (cabs are hella expensive yo).

But its clean, its not too expensive, it goes almost everywhere you could want to go (no Georgetown stop), and its safe.

I don't like the bus system as much...but I'm not a fan of most big city bus systems. I think they all suffer from the same problems. You can however, use your same smarttrip card for buses, which is awesome.

The metro runs until 2 AM on weekends, I believe.

I love subways. My friend and I used to go up to Boston once in a while just to run around and ride the subways. I'm as excited about a new subway system I haven't been on before as I am about visiting any people or places. :)

So I'm looking at the subway maps and it's looking like the two northwesterliest stops are at the end of red and orange lines at Shady Grove and Vienna/Fairfax-GMU, respectively. (Links are for my own reference.) Is that the farthest northwest that mass transit runs? Like I said, I'm going to have a car, but I prefer not to have to use it on an occasion where I'm drinking with Mormons. ;) I think I'd be able to get my friend I'm staying with to give me a ride to and from a train station, but I'd like to minimize her inconvenience as much as possible.

Yankee - you'll love it. If you don't love it I'll just swear about how you're foreign so you just can't understand. :)

Yeah, and a little before midnight on weekdays, but the last train out in a certain direction can come sooner than that. I wouldn't want to be leaving my destination at 1:45 if I had to transfer lines somewhere, lest I risk being stuck at Metro Center.

Its really not too big of a deal on weekends, but on weeknights, it can be. I've hopped on the last train home *twice* since I've been here. When I visit AU, I have to take a bus to get to the Tenley Metro Stop, and sometimes it doesn't show up on time past 11, so if I want to get home, I have to leave before 10:30

I'm just waiting on my boss to confirm that I can take that Friday off so I can drive down Thursday night. I'm gonna badger him as soon as he gets back.

I also haven't completely ruled out calling out anyway if he says no... but I don't think it'll come to that.

Friday's gonna work just fine for me.

Does 6pm on May 16 sparkle with everyone? I'll edit the OP as soon as there's a venue consensus.

With Charles Town, it'd be faster to go to Shady Grove and then take it all the way to Adams Morgan (be at Shady Grove at 5:20). At some stations, they have links to train stations that run further out (probably even to Charles Town) on the MARC (Maryland/West Virginia light rail), but I don't know how late that runs.

Actually, looking up on the internet, the best thing would be to take the MARC to Rockville, get off, take Metro to Adams Morgan, where Murphy's is. The problem could be that the last train leaves around 11, if not earlier than that.

Someone get that man a bannor! (I dont have the pict saved) :)

Though this is undoubtedly an insult, I must say this: "Banners? We don't need no stinking banners!"
