Chat Room?

Does anyone use the chat room here at all? It seems pretty dead every time I go in there... or some anonymous names here and there, but not much activity.

Sometimes it would be kinda cool to just chat away about Civ stuff in real time.

Indeed. But i'd prefer a IRC channel @ quakenet alot, i'd join+idle there instant

I haven't used IRC for eternities... nowadays, it's been limited to Instant Messaging for me. Still though, it would be nice to have an active, dedicated Civ 4 chat room somewhere someplace. ^_^

Yeah, there is.... it just doesn't have much activity... and if I do see some activity, almost none of the time the discussion is about Civ 4 strategy... anything Civ 4 related is more like Civ 4 bashing in favor of Civ 2 or Civ 3.

Well, Quakenet is the easiest way for this purpose, imo. Especially as it's the IRC net most commonly used by gamers anyway. And as i have to work at the PC alot i'm there pretty often anyway Not sure if i'd join another IRC just for civ, well, maybe... But i'd really recommend quakenet for several reasons.

Hmm... I might check it out. Nowadays though, I don't game as much anymore... not sure how popular Civ 4 is nowadays among the masses either.

I am surprised though that nobody is utilizing the chatroom function on this website!

Well, the only game i'm playing frequently is civ4, but some friends of mine are using q-net also, that's why it's a good way to stay in contact. I might join the civfanatics chat through my client, but then again i don't quite understand why civfanatics is using a IRC net that is less popular and anything. I'm using quakenet for ... 12 years now i think, it's perfect. And it's by far not only used for gaming purposes, there are channels for just about everything there nowadays. Otoh it's a european thing, afaik Americans don't use quakenet that much for whatever reason, although some of them do. Just checked, there's a channel named #civ4 in the quakenet, although with just 3 people idling

But seriously, as soon as you get used to IRC/quakenet it's BY FAR the best way to chat. No doubt about that.

The problem with the civfanatic room is that it's not game specific, so I ended up idling with civ 3 or 2 players. I didn't understand their game and they didn't understand mine.

And this is why livestream is so awesome, and popular amongst starcraft players. They have chat rooms where people can talk while watching someone play. It's like back in college where you would hang out and watch someone play.

Yeah I love that function from Starcraft 2, though I don't play it. I've seen it in action though and it is pretty awesome. Wish we have something like that here, but oh well.

I am now back inside the chat room and it is as empty as it has always been. Kinda late hours though so it is not unexpected.
