Civ 5 Design Challenge IV - History/Eras

Revolutionary Insurrectionary Army of Ukraine
Leader: Nestor Makhno
Capital: Huilaipole
UA: Liberty or Death - all modern-era units require a copy of the unique Munitions resource to build. Barracks, Armories and Military Bases provide +2 Munitions each. Capturing enemy cities nets large Munitions caches (anywhere between 6 and 18 munitions). +1 production when building military units.
UU: Tachanka - The Tachanka is a gatling gun replacement. It costs slightly more but has 3 range instead of 2, and is capable of retreating. Does not require Munitions.
UU: Black Guard - the Black Guard Cell does not replace any other unit. It does not require munitions, is available at replaceable parts, is very cheap yet also comparatively weak. Black Guards are also capable of “paradropping” into enemy territory only (Simulating an anarchist uprising.

Thought I'd post my own take at Makhno (Yes, I know that I'm not allowed to compete, but I think I could help and the design does technically fit the challenge)

Revolutionary Insurrectionary army of Ukraine(Nestor Makhno)
UA: Liberty or Death
Has a chance of gaining a free unit whenever the enemy adopts a policy, doubled for ideological tenets. Units may not heal in enemy territory, but gain HP when passing through improved tiles and instantly heal when conquering cities.

UU: Tachanka
Replaces Gatling gun. Requires horses and slightly more expansive as well. However, it is stronger (40 :c5rangedstrength:) and has a 25% bonus vs. Mounted units, in addition to having 4 :c5moves: movement points.

UU: Black Army
Replaces great war infantry. A bit weaker(48 :c5strength:) than the unit it replaces, the black army gains a 5% combat bonus for every improvement completed in the last 3 turns (max. 25%). Additionally, it heals twice as much as other units when passing through farms, and may be used to repair them.

Went for a more production-focused Civilization since I don't make those too often. :p This was a design I was going to make eventually but forgot about. I felt I might as well finish it as it relates to Natan's challenge. :)

Bulgaria (Ferdinand I)
UA: A Sworn Loyalty -
When declaring war :c5war: on a civilization that has been allied with you in the past gain a Production :c5production: boost in all cities. When working against a common foe with another civilization gain +10% strength :c5strength: for each civilization fighting alongside you. Every city-state ally you have grants +5% Production :c5production: towards land units.

UU: Howitzer -
Replaces the Artillery. Has +1 movement :c5moves: within enemy borders and upon the attack :c5war: of a city gain Great Engineer :c5greatperson: points depending on the inflicted damage.

UB: Engineering Workshop -
Replaces the Forge. Provides +5 City Defense :c5strength: and gives tiles with Mines being worked a bonus yield of +1 Production :c5production: and +1 Gold :c5gold:. Anytime a new Great Engineer is born in this city receives a large boost in Production.

Japan
Okuma Shigenobu
Imperial Latecomer

After the World Congress is founded, receive double science from trade routes and each declaration of friendship provides a 10% production boost in all founded cities.

Fuji (replaces Battleship)
Available earlier (Radio), and is slightly cheaper to build at only 325. Has +1 movement but is slightly weaker at 50 strength and 60 ranged strength.

Terakoya (replaces Public School)
Has an additional +1 science and all specialists in the city give +1 of their respective yield - not including GPP.

Basically a civ that becomes powerful mid/late-game that doesn't mind catching up.

Tokugawa Tsunayoshi, Japan
UA: 'The Dog Shogun' or 'Edicts on Compassion for Living Things' or 'Shōruiawareminorei'
+1 :c5faith: Faith and +1 :c5culture: Culture from unimproved animal* resources. All Cities get a free Zoo.
Animal resources: Bison, Cattle, Deer, Fish, Sheep, Horses, Crab, Furs, Ivory, Whales.

UU: Haiku Writer (replaces Great Writer)
A Haiku Writer can create a Haiku (generates +1 :c5faith: Faith, +1 :c5culture: Culture, +1 :c5goldenage: Golden Age point, +2 :tourism: Tourism) that is placed in the nearest city that has an appropriate building with an empty slot (like an Amphitheater, National Epic, Heroic Epic, or Royal Library). A Haiku Writer can also write a Political Treatise, which grants the player a large amount of Culture. Haiku Writers are expended when used either of these ways.

UB: Сalligraphy School (replaces Garden)
Cost: 150 :c5production:
Maintenance: 1 :c5gold:
Great Work of Writing Slot: 1 :greatwork:
+20% :c5greatperson: Great People generation in this City. Unlike the Garden the Сalligraphy School does not have to be built next to a River or Lake. The city must contain an Amphitheater before the Сalligraphy School can be constructed.

Please don't post your random designs here. That is now what this thread is for.

Come on dude there's like 3 threads for random designs, don't be annoying

:trade: The United States of America :trade:
:c5capital: Washington
Woodrow Wilson

UA: Declaration of Neutrality
For each nation you are exporting a resource (Luxury or Strategic) to, receive a free :trade: trade route. External :trade: trade routes yield :c5production: production and extra :c5gold: gold for every other major civilization the destination civilization is at war with. Declarations of friendship provide +15% :c5gold: gold in both capitals.

UU: Convoy
Replaces both :trade: trade units. Can only be pillaged by major civilizations. Double :c5gold: gold from external :trade: trade routes if the destination civilization has a declaration of friendship with you. All units gain a +15% :c5strength: combat bonus against any major civilization that has pillaged a :trade: convoy.

UU: Draftee
Replaces GWI. Available at Steam Power, instead of Replaceable Parts. +15 :c5war: XP if you have an external :trade: trade route to a major civilization that is at war with another major civilization, or with whom you have a declaration of friendship. :c5gold: Costs half as much to purchase in a city with a barracks.

Spoiler :
Draftee experience bonus gives +15 if you have an external trade route with a civilization at war with another civilization, and another +15 if you have an external trade route with a civilization you're friends with. They can be the same civilization, and do stack.

I struggled with whether to do a German East Africa design, this design, or a Raj design. Settled on this.

Seems fun, lemme try
Senussi Order (Ahmad Sharif)
Capital: Kufra

credit to DarthStarkiller

UA - Lions of the Desert
Gain +10% combat bonus against civ/city states that is at war with the owner of your Holy City (even if it's you). All land unit can retreat upon unfavourable battle*

UU - Muhafizia (Great War Infantry)
Can upgrade to Muhafiza if allied (having Defensive Pact) civ already have prerequired tech. Can retreat after attacking (inherited after upgrade)

UI - Zawiyet
+2 Faith and +1 Production. Avabile on Theology. If built on oasis doubled it's yield. Buildable on neutral territory (claim surrounding tiles) and in featureless allied city states territory (do not claim tiles, but increase relations (+0.5) to city states over time)

Spoiler :
*(0% chance in enemy land, 10% if 4 tiles away from enemy city, 25% if in your territory. All percentage modified to +20% if said unit is on desert, +10% near Great General)
A guerilla civ, best played on desert. Preferebelly with lots of oasis. Subject to heavy examination for OP-ness or boringness

@SonofGreatKoya

What tech does the UI open at? And when it says allied civ for the UU, does it refer do DoF, or some other measurement of allegiance?

Austria-Hungary

Leader: Charles I & IV

UA: Powder Keg of Europe: Annexed City-States are immediately connected to the Capital and provide a Production boost whenever War is declared which is increased if the City-State was formerly allied to the opposing Civilization. May repair allied Roads and Railroads.

UB: Telephone Newspaper: Replaces Broadcast Tower. +5% Culture in this City from all Great Works of Writing housed. +1 Happiness for every other City containing a Telephone Newspaper. Available at Electricity instead of Radio.

UU: Jagdkommando: Replaces the Great War Infantry. Ignores Combat Penalty when in Rough Terrain and has additional Movement for every Level earned.

I've had defensive pacts in intense multiplayer or with like millennia long allies AI who share religion and open borders and ideology and who have an aggressive neighbor.

Revolutionary Northern Mexico - Pancho Villa

UA: Indomitable Lord of the Sierra
Mounted Units may enter rival territory without open borders, and may pillage tiles without declaring war. Upon war being declared on you, receive units from civs that are denouncing or at war with the civ that declared on you.

UU: División del Norte (Replaces Cavalry):
Double Gold from pillaging, sacking cities, and plundering trade routes, and generates a small amount of culture when performing any of those tasks.

UB: Peso Printer (Replaces Bank):
Generates Additional Gold on trade routes to civs you've denounced. Gain culture whenever a trade route from this city is broken.

Ok I don't know why I keep making Mexican revolutionary civs but

The Kingdom of Italy

Leader: Vittorio Emanuele III

UA: La Quarta Sponda
The :c5capital: Capital and :c5puppet: Puppet Cities slowly generate Naval Units and have increased border expansion rate. Cities constructing Naval Units generates +1 :c5food: Food and +1 :c5culture: Culture from Sea Resources.

UU: Italia Class
Replaces Ironclad. Stronger than the Ironclad it replaces, the Italia Class does not require Coal, has the unique promotion "Mare Nostrum" which grants it +25% :c5strength: Combat Strength while within Italian territory or while attacking Cities and generates :c5culture: Culture based on its distance from the :c5capital: Capital.

UU: Alpini
Replaces the Great War Infantry. Ignores terrain cost. If stationed in a Fort or in a :c5puppet: Puppet City, it generates +1 :c5culture: Culture in the :c5capital: Capital.

Italy! Surpised no one did this one so far, actually. Hmmm...

Its interesting so few of the designs have taken a stab at the larger great powers of the war. Germany, Britain, France, Russia, and the Ottomans, not represented yet. Only the U.S., Italy, Austria-Hungary, and Japan. Very fascinating.
