Civ 5 Design Challenge IV - History/Eras

Typically we enforce a range of years to avoid horrific Eurocentrism with the designs; we've had the Age of Exploration and the Medieval Era before, both of which are nowadays typically thought of as basically Eurocentric concepts of periodization, but we were able to avoid this with a rough range of years.
For this time period, I constrained myself to 1700-1790, roughly the outline French historians often use for the French one. Of course, it's still good to keep in with the typical themes associated with the period, in order to prevent overlap and keep designs fresh, but I think isolationist Japan fits in nicely with "Enlightenment" periodization.

That's perfectly understandable, and I wasn't trying to say "THAT'S NOT ENLIGHTENMENT," merely that the phrase "Enlightenment Era" is typically associated with Europe. As you said though, and as I myself admit, it should be based far more on the time period (since Eurocentrism will only lead to stagnation with regards to the types of ideas presented in these threads). Isolationist Japan sort of fits the time period (though the exact policy of Sakoku was instituted before the 18th century, it carried on all the way to the 19th), but I would say it qualifies simply because the Tokugawa Shogunate was a much-needed time of peace for Japan which allowed it to settle in on the arts and their own history; a "Japanese Englightenment," at the very least.

Would New Deal affect both the science and production of the manufacturies?

Only Production - it doesn't affect Korean Manufactories, so...

Ah right.

...I don't think I've ever built a manufactory as Korea.

New Deal is hardcoded in the XML to give +4 Production to Manufactories, +4 Science to Academies, +4 Gold to Customs Houses, and +4 Faith to Holy Sites. The tooltip is slightly misleading, I guess, because it won't re-adjust itself if you change the "primary yield" by adding some extra yields elsewhere (like +4 Science to a Manufactory).

Also +4 Culture to Landmarks.

Ah, okay. I know nothing about coding :crazyeye:

Vote?

Showing up out of nowhere to vote for SonOfGreatKoya's Futa Djallon, because I have an image to maintain. =]

I'll go with Dude's Prussia
