Civ Suggestion: Polynesia

Sorry for the misunderstanding then.

I have a suggestion. Can polynesia have it's own background music, in addition to diplomusic. (I think it can be done the same way the same way the current regional music is done). I can find music pretty easily, if you're interested.

The normal rules are that ocean can only be covered with culture if it is in a city radius. This isn't sufficient to reach Hawai'i or Rapa Nui.

Before I post this map suggestions, I actually create a more complex version with almost all islands as accurate as possible, but I delete some of the islands so the Pacific won't look very ugly

There used to be Pitcairn between the Tahiti & Rapa Nui, enough for island hopping.. Line Island (Kiribati) and Marshall Is. between the Tuvalu and Hawaii.. and some more French Polynesian islands between Tahiti & Marquesas. The disadvantages: Hawaii might not be colonized straight from settlers in Marquesas Is., but probably from Kiribati or Marshall Is.

I'll check if I still have that map copy.

By the way, I'm with Merijn. I think Island hopping will be where the fun is.. how about the UP an enhanced version of Island Hopping? So, they can cross ocean tiles that are also adjacent to ocean tiles their culture cover, idk how to word it.

My suggestions for:

Starting Civics:

Government: Dynasticism
Organization: Egalitarianism
Labor: Tribalism
Economy: Self-Sufficiency
Religion: Pantheon
Military: Warrior Code

That seems pretty advanced. Polynesia should only start with very rudimentary techs imo.

The UP Leoreth suggested makes island hopping possible. So they don't need something additional to make it possible.
It's just that they shouldn't get a ocean fearing UU, otherwise the whole idea of island hopping would be gone.

Where can we get sound for the unit voices? We can copy from civ 5, or I could try to record it myself, using a dictionary?
Do you speak a Polynesian language?

Really? Most of them are in the first two tiers, save for Egalitarianism.
Well, I would have them start before Christ so you could actually play their colonization yourself, and HR seems pretty advanced for that.

Civ 5 doesn't have unit voice over.

If human choose Inca, can AI Polynesia appearance set to 100%?
Only Inca. If human = France, for example, AI Polynesia should not appear.

So, your plan is to make them start as Lapita civilization at Teouma, Vanuatu in 1000BC that then expand northward to Micronesia and westward to Polynesia? That's actually a smart moves imo, since making them start at Samoa or Tonga limit them to only be a Polynesian, can't be Micronesian or Melanesian.

This way, player can choose to be Tu'i Tonga Empire, Yap Empire, or Tu'i Manu'a.

If using my proposed map, where Manu'a in the American Samoa is designed to be the most developed cities (with 2 adjacent islands acts as resources, red spot).. you could use that Manu'a island as settler-producing islands, which is historically correct as all Polynesian cities traces their origin to Manu'a! ^^

Good question. Make a case study while I sit on the side and post sarcastic remarks.

Not a case study on that, but I just found an amazing literature right now when browsing at Google Scholar : A History of the Pacific Islands.

Actually, I do found some other interesting literature that's hosted in tandfonline.com something. Unfortunately, I can't access it since my library isn't subscribed to that... being a historical literature.. there's no way I can propose my medical school library to subscribe to that  probably any of you can access the literature from that website for free and share a bit with us? :king:
