Civ V Civilizations Roster

Aztecs are fun. Everybody stereotypes them as bloodthirsty bloody blood-loving... er... people (of course, there is a good amount of truth there), so they're fun to play with. Of course the Mayans and Incas also did their good share of sacrificing, but everybody sees "Aztec = blood".

In that case, please as the Scandivanians, and without those frigging horned helms.

I hope they pick a historical=l Scandinavian king too. Cnut is the greatest Scandinavian king, but he may be too associated with England perhaps (which might be the case with Sweyn Forkbeard too).

I can safely say that whilst Canute might be considered English, Sweyn Forkbeard certainly isn't.

Although I don't like the idea, I am worried that Civ might go to DLC versus expansion packs, which would very much change the complextion of expansion civs, considering DLCs are much easier to theme then full expansion packs.

For instance, in vanilla the "Native American Empire" might be in, but a DLC could split that into two or three other ones.

The same could be said for Arabia.

DLCs I could see (they would include extra goodies too, and possibly some extra leaders):

Ancient Wonders:
Sumer, Persia, Hittites

Fall of Rome:
Celts, Byzantines, Huns

The New World:
Split "Native American Empire", Incas (or Aztecs, depending on who's in), Mayans

Crossroads (trade themed one):
Mali, Vikings, Portugal

I really hope they include the Babylonians! I always felt they were an afterthought in Civ IV.

It's obvious that they're not going to put Israel in - too controversial - but what about Palestine? I think they could be the surprise civ, with Yasser Arafat as a leader, perhaps?

And that wouldn't be controversial??

If you say so...

Only upstart rednecks would find that controversial.

And only muslim extremists would find Israel (as long as they stick with historical israel - Solomon and David kick Ben Gurion's ass anyway) controversial. If we're going with avoiding controversy, Palestine and Israel are both out. If we're going with awesome... they're probably both out anyway. As religious empires go, Israel was pretty limp.

Israel being limp? that tiny country defeated half the Muslim world in the 1967 war.

I personally find Israel dislikable for being a settler state....in the 20th century. THEN taking away the rights of the original inhabitants and reducing their status to the equivalent of Apartheid South Africa. THEN denying their nuclear weapons. THEN stalling a compromise in favor of the extremist Jews that are quickly outreproducing moderate and liberal Jews that state everything from the Sinai to Kuwait should be Israel. ALSO for being the main cause for Arab, and Muslim Extremism. If they want a compromise, kick everybody out and call it a wildlife preserve for the religiously faithful.

Oh boy, let's face it, there is no way people on the forum will agree on the status of Israel and Palastine. I'm pretty sure they would go with the historic Israel if they did at all, and country that is home to a major world religion and is documented in the Bible, and unfortunately for Palestine they do not have any ancient history like that, and no modern state. Bottom line: neither will be put in without sparking off something that Firaxis would not want, and since this is a thread dedicated to a GAME and not to world politics, the subject should be dropped.
