Civ V Civilizations Roster

Also, Egypt is an African Civ, so Africa is already represented at least once.
Both of which are more closely associated with the Mediterranean world than Africa. I would consider them Mediterranean, not African. It is like having Russia as an Asian civ.

I wouldn't consider Russia an "Asian" civ. That's preposterous.

Egypt is better described as Mediterranean though.

It seems these are in:

1. America
2. Germany
3. Aztec
4. Inca
5. The Vikings
6. Japan
7. China
8. Arabia
9. Mongolia
10. Rome
11. France
12. India
13. England

I'd add these five:

Greece
Persia
Ottoman
Ethiopia
Russia

I'd have these be city-states:
Iroquois
Maya
Singapore
Vatican
Switzerland
Zulu
Sumeria

Because they have someone speaking Quechua in diplomatic negotiations?

Firaxis has resurrected the extinct language of quechua (used by Inca).
I don't give a crap about the not extinct part. It clearly says that Quechua is included, and there aren't many other options for that.
Even the extinct part can be explained if they are using a dialect no longer in use, I am not sure how true to pre-contact Quechua it still is, but I expect that there is significant Spanish influence over teh past few hundred years.

No Spain? Surely Spain trumps Ottoman and Ethiopia. Don't get me wrong those were great Civs, but... Spain!

Take out Vatican and make Ottoman a City-State.

I'm not even remotely Spanish, but still... Spain!

ottoman a city state? how disappointing. no one knows history.

Spain was out in at least one civ game, so its not unrealistic.

My two cents:

1. America
2. Aztec Empire
3. Inca Empire
4. England
5. France
6. Spain
7. Rome
8. Germany
9. Mongolia
10. Russia
11. Ottoman Empire
12. Persia
13. Babylon
14. Egypt
15. Mali
16. India
17. China
18. Japan

I cut out Greece and put Mongolia just because Mongolia had to be in and I had to cut someone so ... goodbye Greece! Also I like so many are hoping that the Vikings are not in because, frankly, there are so many more deserving nations. I hope that trailer was just eye candy and isn't based on the actual game.

^They would never in their right mind take out Greece. In my opinion, it's one of those top three/five/whatever civs that they will NEVER EVER remove no matter what.

I would say they probably trump Ethiopia in historical importance, but it does have a geographic advantage.
As for the Ottoman Empire: no. Spain might be of equal importance.

Um... I know size isn't everything (at least that's what my GF tells me) but Spain is the 4th largest empire ever. The Ottoman Empire is 24th. That's a huge gap.

However, I believe the Ottoman empire was more powerful in economic terms. But it's kinda hard to make up for the difference in territorial influence.

Besides, the Arabs (Islamic Caliphates) are already in the game, and the Ottoman Empire was basically a later version of them.

There's an idea. Take out the Arabs and replace them with the Ottoman Empire. That makes more sense than removing Spain.

I like your list although you left out Persia. Also, the Portuguese had a much larger empire than the Dutch. Not that size is everything, but you have to consider them if you are willing to include the Dutch.

And what's wrong with including a few barbarian tribes? They game needs some of those too!

Mongolia has already been indirectly confirmed as a civilization, since Genghis Khan was confirmed as a leader.

I meant ultra aggressive city states that almost pro war all the time, but you can have some diplomacy with. More in the way of, have war with them, not me.

Since city states will have diplomacy, so they should be leaders. So just because someone is shown, doesn't mean a full all out civ.

Actually the way I understand it, from what the articles said, city-states will be able to conduct limited diplomacy with major civilizations, and that it is the major civilizations that will be pushing around the city-states, not necessarily the city-states really doing anything else. So even if city-states did have leaders, I don't think there's much a point for them to have leaders anyways.

Spain is great, but I think that the Ottoman's were a force in their time of incredible power. As for Ethiopia, if you include the Kushite Kingdom that preceded it, you have a unique and at various times incredibly important civilization.

The mongol empire is the largest continuous empire in the world. Four times the size of Rome, twice the size of Persia at it's greatest extent. You can't cut them out, nor should we try.

I bet city states are like the tribes you encounter in Age of Empires III. If you ally with one you'll be able to trade with them, get certain bonuses and be able to recruit special units. You'll also have to help protect them or please them, or they'll go to your rival and help them with things like resources and military access.
