Civ VII Weekly Reveal Guessing Thread

I could see the Majapahit getting no movement cost embark/disembark for their thalassocratic empire-building wants. And I hope they get the Kampangs back. We haven't seen a water-based unique building or improvement yet.

I hope their UU is a Cetbang ranged type, since the Ming didn't go with the Crouching Tiger.

Chola has one.
I didn't remember. I assumed it was a naval trader, which I could also see the Majapahit getting one as well.

Did Kampungs exist during the Majapahit Empire? I was thinking they might go for the Candi again, tying into religion somehow.

It's hard to say when they started being used, but apparently the first Christian community in Indonesia dates to the 1600s and took on the style of a kampung, indicating that it was already in use there before that.

Perhaps the Kampung can be a unique district on water, which could be cool too. Or maybe a unique town city center that can be built on the coast!

We already know that Songhai will have a unique merchant.

I could see Majapahit getting a unique naval commander (I don't think one has been announced yet) and Hawaiii to get a unique settler which could traverse the oceans sooner than others.
Forgot about this. I would amend it then to no unique missionary and two unique land traders per age then, as AA also had two. I assume then 1 unique naval trader and 1 unique great person, styled as either a scholar or admiral.

Doing some research, it seems to me that was more of a Malay thing, located on the Malay peninsula, as well as Sumatra and Borneo.

It works for a generic Indonesia civ, but if they are going specifically for the Majapahit, it might be considered not appropriate. Though I guess anything can happen considering the Abbasids got a generic Madrasah and Mosque.

Could Victoria make it in as a leader?

That would only work if, for a history-inspired game that encourages, amongst other things, you to build the biggest empire you can, they wanted to depict the leader who led the biggest empire in history.

Could Victoria make it in as a leader?
I think she's got a strong chance. The inclusion of 'Britain' as a modern age civ rather than England as an exploration age civ suggests the focus will be on the British Empire, likely with a Victorian/19th Century bent - the perfect period for Victoria.

I think Elizabeth I might make it in eventually as DLC due to her popularity and meme value, but Isabella is currently occupying the territory of female European Exploration Age naval leader. The Normans also appear to have already been announced without a related leader, making an earlier English leader less likely.

Of course they might not include a English/British leader at launch, but I think that's unlikely.

Well so we got unique missionary in base game after all. I find it hard to believe we would have EA without unique naval trader. Perhaps no third Great Person compared to AA? And seemingly navy being focus means one less infantry unit, so just one more.

Well, one wonders whether the leader later this week is tied to the Majapahit.

I'm guessing Trung Trac is the only Southeast Asian leader in the vanilla.

I wouldn't say no to Gajah Mada. The way he was presented in Civ 5 would work well with the Mortal Diplomacy face-off screen.

With the Kris Sword in hand, and a domination focused ability, the Elephant General could be the island conqueror, while Lili'ukolani could instead be the cultured leader.

With the Kris Sword in hand,
The funny thing is that keris / kris is not associated with Gajah Mada, only his modern depiction depicts him wielding kris. As far as written records go, Gajah Mada wields a spear and a shield. Keris during the 14-15th centuries was limited to ritualistic items or traded as gifts. AFAIK the Yingya Shenlan of 1416 explained that keris was only used for execution. Inscription records regarding kris are scarce, we only knew that the kris had attained wider usage after 1511 (the conquest of Malacca). It became more widespread after the 16th century, during the time of Napoleonic wars, the Javanese were noted to carry 3 kris, but the main melee weapon was still spear or pike. So widespread usage is not instantaneous / in short time.

Also he does not go to war bare-chested like modeled in AOE 2 Rise of the Rajas. He wore a breastplate called karambalangan.
