Civ4 BTS v3.19 Patch

I installed 3.19 and started a new game using my custom mod. I played no problems to turn 150 and then opened worldbuilder and the game crashed. I traced it back and the last good time I could open worldbuilder was turn 127. By rebooting my machine after each turn I was able to continue to open worldbuilder until turn 130. What is the problem? I have done a complete uninstall and I am re-installing using only the latest patches and will try again, but my inital impression is that 3.19 has a bad memory leak and 3.17 is more stable.

Alot of MAFs with 3.19.

Hi everyone i have a problem with installing this patch. I digitally downloaded Bts from the Gamestop store so there was no cd necessary but anyways anytime i try to download the patch(either from loading the game and checking for updates or going to the patches section on this website and clicking download for the file) it doesn't seem to work whenever the setup menu for install comes up and i finally click install. All that happens is it closes out on me.

Now i do have vista and i know to run it as an administator and i do but it still doesn't work. Anyone know why?

Rallas, from what I understand (I could be wrong here), you will need to get a patch from the game provider you downloaded the game from. I've never heard of Gamestop but if it's anything like Steam there are meant to be separate patches that work only with those copies of the game.

turns out the supplier of the game i downloaded Bts from was Trymedia games and they help with Gamestop(which is an actual store in the US) if that helps in any way.

As a peaceful, builder type player I am amazed at the increased aggressiveness of the AI in the 3.19 patch. I expect to get jumped by the AI if I am behind in power or techs, but I don't expect the AI to be so irrationally biased toward the human player. Since there is an option to play with an aggressive AI I see no reason for making the standard AI more aggressive. For me it has ruined the game as I don't want to play as a warmonger. I will be uninstalling BTS and reverting to the 3.17 patch with the unofficial patches.

Perhaps you were unlucky to cop game with some really blood thirsty civs? Some of the leaders are notorious for being pretty much certain to declare war on you at some point or other (like Montezuma or Shaka), and many others will declare war on you at the drop of a hat.

Perhaps you got dogpiled by an AP war resolution (several leaders declare war simultaneously)? Those always suck but there's ways to minimize their chance of happening.

On Vista it doesn't matter if you're the admin or not - all applications run with limited user privileges unless you instruct Vista otherwise (right click, select run as administrator).

The only benefit to running an admin account over a standard user in Vista is that admins don't have to enter a password in UAC prompts.

[...] Acutally, I have come to expect this behaviour (and I am a human player). When I build culture it's often for a border pop, and it's nice to be alerted when the border pop is done so that I can stop building culture.
Am I in the minority here? Maybe everyone else is just a lot more vigilant than I am ...

I totally agree. I often build culture exactly until a border pop especially in recently taken cities.
As I'm using BUG, I think I'll manage it, but I would have liked to keep that feature.
IMO it would have been even better to extend that behaviour to building research, so that building research is stopped as soon as a new tech is reached. I often set cities to build research and then forget about it.

Need Help on installing the patch

Hi everybody, I need some help because I have trouble installing the patch 3.19.
I have downloaded several times from various places, and it doesn't work. I have Vista, Civ4 with patch 317, and it works ok. But 319, the patch (setup.exe) begins working, and then stops -- Windows Task manager says it is blocked, the process viewing shows that it uses very little memory (under 15k).
Anybody having a similar problem?
Any idea?
Thanks,
Ludo

You've just hit on the real solution.

  • Return building Culture to its original form: removed from queue once borders expand
  • Extend that feature to Research: removed from queue when tech is completed
  • Add ability to ALT + click both Culture and Research so they are never removed, just like ALT + click on a unit
I can't think of a good threshold at which point you should remove the Gold process from the queue, but it would be great if we could think of one for completeness.

That brings up an interesting question: how does espionage builing (if modded in, which is actually very easy) work under the No Espionage option?

It would probably work just like building Culture but have whatever tech requirements you assign to it rather than Music.

No admin rights are not the problem I disabled user account controls, it is something else.

@Jawa'sRevenge:

deanej is correct. In most cases, Vista will run a program correctly without having to use admin privileges, however in the case of Civ (patches included, and this is especially true of 64 bit) you must force the program and patches to run as admin, by right clicking and choosing run as administrator.

What deanej is speaking of is the normal privileges in your account in Vista, and how to elevate privilege. What Zylornck meant, and what I'm talking about, is to run the program with elevated privileges. Quite a few programs have this problem, and it's the first thing to try if a program won't run properly under Vista. The second is to run the program in a compatibility mode, but you shouldn't have to do that for Civ.

Sometimes, you just have to grab Vista by the earlobe and show it what you want it to do. :)

I used to have to tell Vista that it was okay to run BtS (just BtS, not vanilla or Warlords or C3), but nwo it no longer requires that. Is there a way to get Vista to simply stop aking my permission for everything though? I'm really annoyed that I can't do many things because it needs t he admin's permission (I'm hte admin on my computer)
