deanej is correct. In most cases, Vista will run a program correctly without having to use admin privileges, however in the case of Civ (patches included, and this is especially true of 64 bit) you must
force the program and patches to run as admin, by right clicking and choosing run as administrator.
What deanej is speaking of is the normal privileges in your account in Vista, and how to
elevate privilege. What Zylornck meant, and what I'm talking about, is to run the program with elevated privileges. Quite a few programs have this problem, and it's the first thing to try if a program won't run properly under Vista. The second is to run the program in a compatibility mode, but you shouldn't have to do that for Civ.
Sometimes, you just have to grab Vista by the earlobe and show it what you want it to do.
