Civ4 BTS v3.19 Patch

turn off user account control. open the vista orb/start menu in the lower left corner and type msconfig in the search bar and hit enter. go to the tools tab in the window that comes up and select disable uac then hit launch. you'll need to reboot when your done, but the nagging will stop.

after reading those 33 pages i still got no answer for my install probs with this new patch 3.19. so far i used to play the vanilla versions of civ 4 and BTS. but now i really want to try any of those mods from this fansite. e.g. fall from heaven II sounds pretty interesting. BUT... they all need patch 3.17 or 3.19 which all don´t work for me.
I got the civ 4 originall from cd and bought BTS as download version. patch 3.17 just says i dont have the game and 3.19 i get the same probs many people before had before. downloading the patch from different origins didn´t help, installation stops at the same point.
after confirming the installation screen it just stops and nothing happens. choosing different languages didn´t help either.
I really hope that still someone with helpfull tipps is still active here and can help me out.

(sorry for my bad english, greetz from Europe)

Does 3.19 affect anything in Vanilla, like one of the earlier patches did? I'd like to be able to replay a couple of old GOTMs over the next few weeks, and would have to delay installing 3.19 a bit longer if it does stuff like modifying the DLL.

No effects on Vanilla, you can upgrade. I've asked the same in the GOTM44 pregame thread and been told so by AlanH.

@Jawa'sRevenge:

deanej is correct. In most cases, Vista will run a program correctly without having to use admin privileges, however in the case of Civ (patches included, and this is especially true of 64 bit) you must force the program and patches to run as admin, by right clicking and choosing run as administrator.

What deanej is speaking of is the normal privileges in your account in Vista, and how to elevate privilege. What Zylornck meant, and what I'm talking about, is to run the program with elevated privileges. Quite a few programs have this problem, and it's the first thing to try if a program won't run properly under Vista. The second is to run the program in a compatibility mode, but you shouldn't have to do that for Civ.

Sometimes, you just have to grab Vista by the earlobe and show it what you want it to do. :)
Is that a bunch of security crap with Vista, making it irritating to get something to run? Glad I didn't upgrade.:)

Most of the security nonsense can be turned off, and the compatibility options are because Vista is quite different from XP, and must use a different technique to run older software sometimes. The price of progress, I suppose. :crazyeye:

I guess if you hate those features, you won't be moving up to Windows 7 then? AKAIK, the security options are there as well, and don't even get me started on the XP Virtual Machine. I have to pay double to use older XP programs? Oh, I can't wait for my RTM copy to get here in October now.

Hey, it's not Microsoft's fault that Firaxis developed civ with the expectation of it having unrestricted administrator access to the entire system (which no program should be written to expect, but developers do it anyways because it's easy). It's a problems with XP too, but you never see it because nobody runs XP as a limited user.

ok now i bought the cd version of BTS but i still have the same probs as with the downloaded version. i just cannot patch it to 3.19. i´m kind of hesitating now. i use XP as admin if this helps.
first i installed civ 4, then patched it to 1.74, then warlord, and bts after all of this i tried to patch but nothing works. tried it several times. the game is running normal jut patching is impossible. please help me out, i really would like to use some of those mods here, especially FFH 2

@Teckel78:

Where did you get the patches from? If you have the CD version of BTS, download them here from CFC, both 3.17 and 3.19, then do this:

1. Run the 3.17 patch as administrator (Right click on the patch and select "Run as admin...")
2. When the patch finishes, load BTS and make sure it loads. Exit BTS.
3. Do the same thing as #1 for 3.19
4. Repeat #2
5. Conquer Fall From Heaven. :)

Unless you have a serious problem somewhere in your computer, this should work. If it doesn't, make and post a DxDiag file in the tech support forum. More people with an answer can see it there.

Good luck. :)

Doesn't 3.19 include 3.17? In which case he'd only need to download one patch.

Btw, you change avatars the way other people change socks.

Apparently, it doesn't always work right, judging by what I've read in the tech forum.

Every time I change my underwear. :p
Once a week?
Ooooh. EF the Smartie-Pants! That's ok, I love BUG so much I'll let that one by. :)

I'm having the same problem as civ4ludo with 3.19. Starts to go then nothing. I have been running it as administrator, and still get through set up and then nothing.

I've completely stopped playing Multiplayer 3.19 due to this bug.

It's sad, I really liked Civ.

Has anybody else seen the bug where you select 1 or 2 great people to start your 2nd golden age which requires 2 diff great people? I've played MP 2 games now with the patch, and both times when starting the 2nd golden age ... Out of Sync, repeatable. It's kind of a pretty bad bug as it sort of ruins one style of playing MP games. I also noticed in the 2nd OOS game when I had 3 great people and selected 2, it took the wrong 2. Might be related.

With 3.19 my Civ suddenly gives me sound problems. Every time I press Cancel for loading a game, exit from the game, and such acctions the game sound hangs for a few seconds like an old record, repeating the last sound over and over.

The first time I had this I thought the game crashed, meanwhile I'm kind of used to it, but really wonder why this suddenly happens with 3.19 and if I'm the only one with this?

Having XP SP3 & SB Xi-Fi

Thanks,
Tek

. . . the game sound hangs for a few seconds like an old record, repeating the last sound over and over.

Different game, but I had this happening often with Left 4 Dead. I found the answer: video drivers. Yes, video drivers. I updated the drivers for my X800GT and no more problems.

Has anyone experienced the civ version and save version not changing after 3.19? The build version says 3.1.9.0 and the date is May 2009, but the civ version is 317 and the save is 301. I'm running Win7 RC (build 7100) 64-bit and I can't play with my wife and her XP machine. Trying to troubleshoot but this was on a fresh install of Civ Gold + BTS, followed by a couple of reinstalls, while also trying both to go straight to 3.19 and 3.17 to 3.19. No luck. Any thoughts or suggestions? (Yes, I have elevated the privileges for all install executables and I downloaded both patches from this site.) Thanks.

I don't know if it's 3.19, but I haven't been able to run Quot Capitas or Varietas Delectat or The Great War on Civ. Is it possible that the two are connected? By "haven't been able to run," I mean that the mods load, but once loaded, they don't change the game. Well, either QC or VD added leaderheads, but it negated both the ones I added myself (to the game, not the mod) and the leaderheads included didn't belong to any Civ. Any suggestions?
