Civ4 Plugins for 3dsmax 6 and 7 now available for download

I've had no luck getting it to work with Max 9 either. Getting CivilizationIVMaxPlugin.dlu failed to initialize. Error Code: 127 - the specified procedure could not be found.

I've also placed the 2 DLL files (mf771 and d3dx9_26) in my system, system32 and 3dmax folders....no luck.

Have any of you guys figured out how to get the plugins to work for 3ds max 9 yet? I'm having the same problem.

Please, is there any hope of getting this to work with 3ds Max 9? Getting an older copy is simply not an option for myself, and I would assume many people.

I have access to 9 already. Do they offer demos for old versions of the application? I can't find them on their website. Would be odd to offer a demo of an app two releases back.

Could someone please explain me how to export from Max 8 so that the animations will actually work? Ive read the numerous threads about that BUT they are all about the old version of NifTools and the current one has a definitely different export window (see attachment), where so far I could only figure what not to check/select.

I use Max 8, with NifTools and Civ4whatever plugins. And to avoid any confusion I simply imported, then exported models, havent changed anything.

Thanks in advance.

Ive already checked that, but it only tells what certain options do. And since I dont know what Civ 4 requires, it doesnt really help.

Well, your screenie has it currently at NIF without Animation, so I'm gonna wager that's not what you want. I'd guess that Single KF with NIF would be the way to go. If all else fails, just choose all the different options one at a time to see if it works.

Ehm no, Im quite sure it should be without animation as those are in the .kf files.

But it doesnt matter as Ive just realized that the only thing I missed in the tutorials is that you have to export with the Civ4 plugin, not NifTools. Shame on me.

Even though, in case it will help someone: Do NOT install the newest NifTools, you have to use the one uploaded here on forums, or everything you import/export will be half-transparent.
Well, unless thats what you want.
(I guess it could be fixed in MAx - I havent checked what causes it - but its just easier to use the older)

And you said you wanted your animations to work didn't you? So you'd probably end up wanting a single kf to be exported along with your nif, right?

Does the Civ4plugin work with max 8? I know it doesn't with 9.

Just a quick word (a month late): Max 9 is not a possibility without a rebuild of the plugin its probable that Max 2008 will fail as well. We would need to petition Firaxis for a rebuild of the plugin but that is probably unlikely to succeed as they have no need to upgrade from their current tools.

I'm the author of the Niftools plugin and it doesn't get much export use with Civ4 because the official one works much, much better and I don't have the time to perfect it. Most people use nifskope to fix up the results after its been written.

Import should work fairly well for people though.

I was just thinking; I have 3ds Max 9 as well. Would it be possible to make the models in version 9 and then load them into version 7 (ie send the models to someone with a lesser version of 3ds Max)? I don't mind making requests, but it's silly when I'm competent enough to do the work myself.

My max 9 files usually won't work in max 7, but if I export to 3ds, I can import that into max 7. I can test and export for you if you want me to. You can actually send me your max 9 file and dds', and I'll take care of the rest.

Thanks, I might take you up on that offer.. . You know I've never got my old max files to work with max 9.. . Of course I used a trial version (w/out a time lock on it) back in the day, but I'm not sure what version that was or even if I still have the install file.

ok im trying for the first time to use the NIFviewer to change a unit but i cant find the NIFviewer itself. ive downloaded the files on the first page but i dont see it in there anywhere. also it says to put in the 3dmax folder in the c drive but i dont have that, do i need to just create a empty folder titled 3dmax or is there something else i need to download and install? i dont see any exe files for anything in the files i downloaded from the first page so how do i start this up?

I think you can just extract the files to any folder and run the "SceneViewer.exe" file. You do not need 3dMax installed.

If the program gives you a "cannot create renderer" error then it may be because you have a recent ATI video card. I used to use the program all the time with an older Radeon 9700 Pro but then built a new computer with an ATI X1950 Pro and now it will not work so I am learning NifSkope.

Here is a link to a tutorial on using the Sceneviewer program. Maybe it can help.

Good luck & happy modding. :D
