Civics in BTS and a poorly edited manual

Living in Quebec - maybe all of Canada - I have a bilingual manual that's 40 pages long for each language. I don't know how long the english-only one is or if it's more in depth or better edited.

There seem to be three glaring editing problems, and/or I am blind - I checked, I'm not.

1. The manual hints at (quote: "see below") new unique units for new civs, when the manual itself actually has absolutely no mention of or chapter for the new civs, their UU's or their UB's.
2. Civics changes, as described in the manual, are far off the mark in accuracy, as far as I can tell from gameplay. It says that a) Caste System now receives a food bonus to workshops, which is not indicated in either the civics menu or in the civilopedia, and b) Environmentalism receives a food bonus from Forest Preserve, Windmill, and Watermill, also not at all indicated in the civics menu or the civilopedia. Unless the food bonuses are somehow integrated into the total food count but not shown on individual squares, these 'changes' just aren't correct.

Has anyone else read the manual and been wondering?

The manual says that you need Writing to be able to adjust the Espionage slider, but you can do that as soon as you meet a rival civilization. This may be a patch change.

Not true. You GET the espionage window and can adjust priority once you meet anyone. The ability to add %% of income to it comes with (IIRC) Alphabet.

Shoot, just be glad you got a manual. The steam version's downloadable PDF version gives you the Call of Duty 2 manual for some forsaken reason. :crazyeye:

Being a printer by trade, I wanted to create my own Reference Guide for BTS, as I prefer having written material to using the ingame Civilopedia (though I must admit using the Civilopedia cuts down my 'smoking while strategising' habit). I wanted to use artwork from the game to make a good looking guide, but I can't extract any of the art files from the game. A text only guide would be pretty boring.

The manual really was a cheap rushjob. Just listing things and refering to the Civilopedia. The Warlords manual was much better!

And I really dislike the use of the word "cool" in a game manual. It looks so childish and unserious for a game of this type. :nono:

has the Call of Duty manual helped you with your civ strategy at all? because the Civ one is pretty bad... ;)

This is one thing that Blizzard does a lot better than Firaxis; they have everything done and made top quality before they release it. However, that also means it takes them FOREVER to release anything.

Still, I like Firaxis as a company better than Blizzard for many reasons :p

You would have to have a copy of 3dsmax to view/modify the art in civ4.

Nope. If you want you can allocate 100% of your income to your espionage as soon as you meet someone.
