Civ 7 leaders will be Stand users all with their own unique Stands confirmed
Also is anyone surprised that the game will be available for the switch ? id have thought it wouldve been too much for the switch to handle, seems like its not gonna require that much more computational power than civ 6 ?
Yes, a new civ game means civfanatics will be back into micro analysis mode. We will analyze every little bit of content to try to guess what units are in the game, what civ leaders are in the game, analyzing screenshots to see if we can glean any details on game systems etc... Oh happy days!
This is something I'm really looking forward to as well. I didn't start to get into the Civ games until 2018, around the time of the Rise & Fall expansion, first by playing Civ V, then gravitating to Civ Vi, which became an obsession. I remember when Gathering Storm was being hyped (and later, the New Frontiers packs), eagerly looking forward to the civ reveals every few weeks, and thinking at the time, "Wow, it must be something to follow new developments as they occur with the main base game." So Civ 7 will be the first Civ game where I'll be able to do so.
There is absolutely no way they won't have some sort of Steam Workshop, in fact, seeing how other games approach, it could be a post-release thing as well, where they spend time developing a seperate SDK to release, especially if this game is going to be an Unreal engine game.
Also:
I wonder if they'll going to do First Looks again, I enjoyed that, it was my favorite part of the pre-release of Civ 6.
Civilization is a series that has historically been very popular for modding and with a developer that is positive towards it, even before modding became a widespread thing in the gaming world. I would be extremely surprised if they decided to purposefully kill off modding.
Just to compare:
Civilization IV, released in 2005, was already built to be very easily moddable. And even before that, as early as Civ II (and quite possibly Civ I, but I didn't play that) you had in-game editors with which you could create new units, scenarios, et cetera. Heck, I'm pretty sure you could create a full overhaul mod in Civ II without leaving the game application.
Contrast this with Age of Wonders. The developer team of Age of Wonders has a ton of interaction with the community, and they are extremely good at making games - I personally think the Age of Wonders series is better than the Civilization series, in fact. And yet, the first of their games that had any official modding support was Age of Wonders III, released in 2013 (iirc), and the modding support was only added on during post-release support, with the next game in the series being the first one to support it from launch.
Civilization, depending on how you measure, was at least one decade and arguably two decades ahead of even a highly regarded developer in the same genre.
Extremely unlikely. Joe Weinhoffer worked on XCOM 2 and Midnight Suns, which was another game by the XCOM team. Much more likely he's now leading the next game by that team, as Jake Solomon is no longer at Firaxis, rather than having a senior role on Civ7 with no prior Civ experience.
I just wanted to mention it. Civilization has always been one of those games that I personally feel could only work on a desktop computer. Playing Civ on a console would feel clunky for me.
