China: don't like civs with only bonuses for warmongering although CKNs are awesome.
Inca: Very versatile as long as you have hills & mountains around.

Imo, at least some of the downvotes for Inca were based on a misunderstanding of terrace bonuses in G&K (they receive all of the farm bonuses now, so they are always as good or better than farms). The civ is also just a lot of fun to play, and its starting bias plus terraces facilitate megacities with observatories, mountain wonders, high production, and high food.

I love Persia and I play them quite frequently, but we're at a point where even the top civs are dying. Persia takes a hit from me because being reliant on golden ages is somewhat restrictive. I'm also not terribly impressed by the immortals or the Satrap's Court -- both are good, but there is nothing exceptionally good or uniquely fun about Persia.

I should note that I have never voted up or down Korea solely because I'm currently refraining from playing them until the Hwacha glitch is fixed. I've played them once, but that's not enough for me to get a really good flavor.

China is the best warmongering civ left on the list (and one of the best in the game). Warmongering is a lot of fun!

Inca are just boring to play IMHO. The only thing I really enjoyed about the New World DLC was the scenario...the Inca and Spanish civs need more work.

It's getting harder and harder to decide who to downvote! I chose Arabia because the bazaar comes to late to really make a difference, and by then I am usually large enough so that I don't really need extra copy for most resource. Still is the best (non faith generating) UB

Maya: still very good. You can have a very early academy and grab the wonders tht fits your style (usually ND). With messenger of the god I love how a size two city produce more science than a size five! I'm not sure they should win though, but their time hasn't come yet!

indeed.

impressive tiles!

Also, it might not be the correct thread but I've read many times in this thread about the infamous RA bug. What's this? Do the RA yields too much beakers? I've read that it is as broken as the hwatcha bug and not just a balance imperfection. Could someone second that?

I'm gonna give Babylon a bit of love. While they are entirely science-minded, they can be impressive warmongers if you beeline and mass-produce bowmen. I took down 2 civs with bowmen first and upgraded composites for the next one in the first deity game I had with them after G&K. Early warmongering doesn't affect their early research rate, because you'll get the academy anyway, no matter if you produce units or buildings initially.

Persia does wonders with their GAs, but their civ is too 'singleminded' for my taste. As others have mentioned, I agree that they got a bit nerfed with GAs now only possible with GPs if they are Artists. Not a weak civ, but my least favorite to play of the ones left...

Speaking off - I don't have the Inca or Korea DLCs, but I might just get them now, seeing all the love they get here. What do you guys say - are they worth buying?

Arabia...don't like the AI that goes with it. They tend to be annoyingly disloyal but without a military to back up their attitude. Just a new reason to add to the list.

The Maya are more flexible than people give them credit for. They can war early, not needing archery to start, they can go for science, they can found religion early, they can explore the oceans early...they may not be the best at any single thing but their flexibility makes them fun.

I love starting in some nice flat desert land, it means I can almost always get Petra in my capital and desert folklore gives a nice religious game.

@PhilBowles

Something still escapes me in all that BPT thing. 1 planted GS = 4 specialists. The second planted GS comes quickly after Education (1 GS point from Oracle + 6 pts from University in the worst case, +50% from UA) - like 10 or so Turns, which makes 2 planted GS's worth 8 specialists.

Which is the thing. Babylon's matching 8 specialists by the time you reach Education. Give Korea 4 cities, and by the time Education arrives they have Cathedrals, Drama & Poetry (amphitheaters) and Currency (Markets) - let's say (as is essentially certain) that Babylon has reached Education before Korea has this tech. Korea has 12 specialist slots already, most of which it is likely to be able to fill. From then on, Korea progresses faster than Babylon since it can found new cities with multiple buildings quickly, it's close to Education (+2 specialists per city), and once it hits that, it's putting out its own GSes as well. At a slower rate than Babylon, but added to its BPT bonuses.

As for duel maps... They are too cheesy, don't you think? :)

*shrug* I like to randomise maps, and for some reason my Deity games came up with two or three duels in succession.

I missed that, despite my Inca game being post-G&K, but from recollection I haven't downvoted the Inca, and if I have it was just because I felt they were too far ahead of the pack, not because of the mistake on terrace farms. I don't think it's factored into anyone else's cases.

I should note that I have never voted up or down Korea solely because I'm currently refraining from playing them until the Hwacha glitch is fixed. I've played them once, but that's not enough for me to get a really good flavor.

Hwach'a bonus bug only works on upgrade - do what I do and either hard-build all your Hwach'a or simply don't use them against cities. I end up using more Turtle Ships anyway (my map shuffling turns up a lot of island maps).

Babylon: Yes, I know a lot of the voting is based on things other than power, and Babylon is boring, but I still think they should be much higher relative to Korea despite the latter being far more engaging to play.

China: I'm ambivalent about whether China or Arabia should be cut first, but both need to go - both have got this far at least partly on the strength of good UUs, but even the best UU has a moderately short life and is only useful during wartime. China's done well being the only full warmonger civ to get this far (Persia is somewhat more versatile), but it's time it was on the way out.

I love both Korea and Inca. In my opinion they were proabably the best DLC to come out (atleast when the Inca was coupled with Spain).

Inca are just boring to play IMHO. The only thing I really enjoyed about the New World DLC was the scenario...the Inca and Spanish civs need more work.

I love both of these civs, very versitile and adaptable for different vicory conditions. Could you please explain what areas you think need work

Korea's 12 specialists come at a cost of 24 :c5food: per turn. Babylon's Academies can be planted on :c5food: producing tiles. For argument sake, let's assume that Babylon has 3 Academies (1 free at writing, 1 from Liberty, 1 from natural growth).

Babylon works those three tiles and generates 24 :c5science:, 6 :c5food:, and 3 :c5gold: (Academies built next to a river which is where I generally settle them) from only 3 tiles! Babylon is free to run specialists as well. Korea cannot generate that much from 3 :c5citizen: with their UA. Sure with enough food you can run specialists, but Babylon can also run specialists and essentially gets this research boost for free and much earlier in the game.

Don't forget that Babylon has likely reached education 10-20 turns earlier, so they have a head start which snowballs throughout the game.

Arabia: Never get good starts with them. More of them end up being plains than desert flood plains for me.

China: Chu's are awesome! One of the best things to quickly clear a continet with, and if you come agaist an opponetnt with the great wall just nuke their territory with citadels.

Only played Inca once (and liked it, but didn't have a map well-suited to getting a feel for them - I only had one decent site for hills and with mountains, and it wasn't my starting location), but I love Korea and they also come in a pack with Wonders of the Ancient World, which makes them a no-brainer to pick up out of all the DLCs.

I'm still a big advocate of Persia, great civ, better than at least one or two civs still on here. :B

I'm not as big an advocate of the Maya. An early UU isn't too useful, even if it's an early early UU. UA is good and UB is pretty sick, but everything has to be perfect to survive now.

Arabia 7 (+1) It being so low is frankly surprisng. Argument can be made its the most versatile civ left (along with Inca and Maya)
Babylon 12
China 7 (-2) China and Persia still the least desrving to make the final five of those left

Arabia: Never really felt like massing gold to victory was fun. Their camels upgrade awkwardly later as their upgrades become useless when they transition into a melee unit.

China: None on the list can stand up to china in a militaristic sense. At the same time, the Chinese are not pigeon holed into warmongering either unlike the other war-centric civs. My favorite civ left on the list.
