Civilization Request Thread

Hey, we're allowed to have fun, aren't we? :)

What ever do you mean? I wasn't saying you can't.
I was just shamelessly plugging my mods on this thread.

Oh well that's totally different, plug on friend, plug on.

I'm tempted to help you bring some of your splits to life, but some of them would require Lua masterpieces. I'll take a look at which ones i might be able to work out.

Woah, any one of them would be amazing; though of course ive got my favourites. That said, i recongise simlicity has never been my forte, they're probably all pretty tough to code :L

Yeah, they're all pretty hard to code.
You need to be a tiny bit less complex sometimes, i think. Continue your fun, because you seem to love complexity, but if you ever did want any of your ideas done it would have to be from a Lua genius.
and if you take a look at Firaxis' Civs they aren't very complex.

Well... not historically accurate, but some are nice(shaka,Morocco)

and if you take a look at Firaxis' Civs they aren't very complex.

But Firaxis civs aren't the most brilliant ones, are they? ;)

Maybe Firaxis had loftier goals for their civs, but had to dial them back due to coding complications.

Nah, I truly believe they kept them simple on purpose. Particularly because the civs got more complex with each Expansion (and DLC).

Why make them so complex when you can keep them simple so people can explore better the mechanics of the game?

But some are too simple. Mongolia for example, has a bad UA. Its even more useless in the scenario.

Mongolia's UA isn't bad because it's simple. It's bad because it's bad.

Conversely look at China: +15% GG power and +50% GG production. Simple, but very powerful.

What about this for an Athens focussed on Democracy and Great People? Greek UA should now be going to Thebes under the name 'Hegemony of Thebes'

Athenian Republic
Leader: Pericles
UA: Cradle of the West
Upon adopting a :c5culture: social policy, all cities receive a unique bonus until the next :c5culture: policy is adopted based on which :c5citizen: specialist type makes up the majority in that city* Whenever a :c5greatperson: Great Person is born in the Empire, receive :c5culture: culture, increased by your current :c5happy: happiness.

UU: Trihemiolia(Replaces Trireme)
The Trihemiolia, unlike the trireme it replaces, starts with +3 :c5war: experience for every point of local :c5happy: happiness in the city it is trained in. In addition to this, while within the borders of a friendly or allied :c5citystate: city state, the Trihemiollia generates :c5culture: culture equal to its level.

UB: Acropolis (Replaces Amphitheatre)
On top of the regular +2 :c5happy: happiness provided by the circus, the Acropolis does not need any specific resources to be built. Upon adopting a :c5culture: policy, the Acropolis generates +3 of a random yield. This yield is changed upon adopting your next :c5culture: policy. Furthermore, the Acropolis receives a random :c5citizen: specialist slot upon completion.

Spoiler :
Mostly Scientist Specialists - Libraries receive +2 :c5culture: culture and all specialists yield +1 :c5science: science and +1 :c5greatperson: GS points.

Mostly Engineers - Receive +10% :c5production: production towards wonders and all specialists yield +1 :c5production: production and +1 :c5greatperson: GE points

Mostly Merchants - Trade routes to and from this city yield +2 happiness and all specialists yield +2 :c5gold: gold and +1 :c5greatperson: GM points.

Mostly Artists, Writers or Musicians - :greatwork: Great Works in this city yield +1 :tourism: tourism and generate +2 :c5science: science. All specialists yield +2 :c5culture: culture and +1 random :c5greatperson: GW, GA or GM points

Note that cities do not receive these bonuses while the empire is :c5unhappy: unhappy or if you have no :c5citizen: specialists.

Thoughts, guys?

Why am i not good ennoooooough

This mod sounds awesome, with different specialists giving a different bonus. But once again you don't fail to impress with your complexity.
My latest civ just gives more food from Plains and Citrus...

If it helps, I don't think anyone is. Athens had to be particularly complex because there isn't really any way to represent popular sovereignty and democracy in a game based entirely around playing am omnipotent emnipresent dictator  and thus, it required the ridiculous creation you see before you.

Hey, Argos also has that Golden Age effect! :D

But I do feel that simple civs can be cool too -- I know I do like to tend towards simplicity if I can, although some of my civs have certainly become complex. Still, there's a certain elegance in simplicity, and simple civs can still have plenty of nuance to their gameplay. :3

The Athens design does look cool... wish I could come up with such imaginative ideas. X3

I've always said and always will say that Sumer is beautiful in its simplicity...

Urdnot confirmed for being Firaxis(also, i shall post splits as well! When ill get my tablet back...

I know it's more of a city than a civilization but... I ended up on the Wikipedia page for Hong Kong, and that made me think: how about a Hong Kong civilization?

I'm thinking about the modern Hong Kong here, so I would say it would be geared towards Gold and trade. I suppose it would have to be in a way that makes it distinct from Venice, if you went the one city only route. Of course, I'm not an expert in its history, so there may be other things that could be used from its past as both a part of China (before now, I mean) and the British Empire.

Hong Kong could work
I also never finished my Singapore civ, because i got a new PC, but the icons are still hanging around somewhere. and that flag could make a wonderful icon. In fact, you could have the Four Asian Tigers - Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea.

Hong Kong

Leader: Donald Tsang
UA: Fragrant Harbor - City State influence degrades at half the speed while you have a trade route to them and gold gifts are twice as effective. Each city state ally gives you +1 trade route.

UU: Special Duties Unit (Marines) - Has 2 unique promotions that can be gained from different situations.* This represents their special training for different situations.

UB: Finance Center (Stock Exchange): +45% gold rather then +33% and also gives +2 gold from trade. For each trade route from a city with a Finance Center, the city gains +1% more gold.

*Flying Tiger: If it ends its turn on a worker unit it gains +15% combat strength, +1 movement. The worker also gets given +1 movement.
*Water Ghost: When it ends its turn on or adjacent the coast it gains +15% combat strength and gets defense while embarked.

and this was the Civ that never got finished.

Singapore

Leader: Stamford Raffles
UA: The Lion City - Cost of purchasing buildings and culture cost of acquiring new tiles reduced by 33%. Increase Global Happiness by +1 for every 3 Policies adopted. Start a Golden age when you finish a Policy tree. (Can't build settlers or annex cities)

UB: Street Market (Market) - As well as the usual market bonuses it increases the yield of luxuries by +1 Gold. +2 Tourism at Flight.

UU: Volunteer Corp (Rifleman) - Unique unit that can upgrade into stronger versions of itself at the required techs up until Mechanized Infantry. +25% bonus in friendly territory and -25% combat strength in foreign lands.
