Thanks to all who've commented. I'm glad you enjoyed the story.
I guess it's clear now that the game itself was a bit too easy.
A little background: I'd come up with the basic idea for this story way back in June when I started playing Civ again after a year-long hiatus. I went through one whole run and outlined a draft of the story to match the gameplay, but I wasn't satisfied with it and started over after BNW came out.
During that first draft, the antagonist doppelgänger was in command of the Aztecs, but was never able to mount a serious threat to the Greeks. He was on a whole other continent and had an early setback with the Huns invading (I had, until then, never faced off against the Huns and was shocked by the power of the battering ram; that's why I picked them for the second version). Also, Greece was isolated on an island by themselves and it ended up slowing them down a great deal; so much so, in fact, that I lost the game to Russia, who got their spaceship out before I could win diplomatically.
So when I started this game, I turned down the difficulty so that I could make the Huns more of a threat. Which they were at the time of the Hun-Greek war. After that, I tried to rebound with them and did pretty well. I'm sure I could've beaten any of the AIs, but Greece was just untouchable by then.
Anyway, I think it all worked out pretty well for the story and I'm fairly happy with it. Katarina especially was a much more important character in this final story than in the outline I'd written for the previous game. She helped make the story more interesting to write and it was really enjoyable all told, but now I've got to get Civ out of my head so I can dedicate attention to some other projects (including finishing the revision on my NaNoWriMo book, which has been simmering on the back burner while I binged on Civ game after Civ game. Damn, BNW is good!).
So again, I hope you all enjoyed it. It was a lot of fun to write, but it's time for me to take a long, long break from Civ. (Like "See you when Civ 6 comes out" long.)
