Do you think man-made cloning should be allowed.

1)yes
2)no

Only for scientific, medical research under strict control. There's too much potential for abuse otherwise.

Obviously you still have forgotten about what happened in South Korea. They had strict government controls and the fraud still happened. I say no because it is way too much a big risk and to use cloning for the destruction of human life is wrong.

Clone organs - yes
Clone humans - no

Yes please, clone me a Dark Angel.

we should clone people, the best of our soldiers so we have an army of elites

Animals? Yes. Humans? No. Human tissue? Yes.

Cloning should be absolutely allowed. However, there should be a long-term moratorium (decades, not years) against cloning and then trying to produce a person from that clone - there's just no way to guarantee the quality-of-life people should have a right to.

Currently, cloning is a technique which reprograms a cell nucleus to act like it's younger. It's basically making a skin cell into a cell which can be used to repair other parts of the body.

Popular culture has horribly misinformed people as to what scientists mean when they say "cloning"

Yes, but it shouldnt be abused, and clones should have the same rights as any other human being. Not just walking organ donors.

I don't think so. It would be a power far too easy to abuse.

My next sentence seems related to the previous two, but actually has no relevence, except as a completely seperate opinion. I say no because it is way too much a big risk and to use cloning for the destruction of human life is wrong.

You're very right.

While the researcher committed a fraud, this fraud had nothing to do with the ethical controversey regarding cloning research. It would be like trying to convince people that Creationism is bad because of Hovind's tax evasion. The arguements are not related.

As far as I remember cloning creates a new human life and does not destroy one?

I have no problem cloning organs, or other bits of human tissue separately. Meaning that if you can grow a new heart in lab, and then transplant it to a needy person, I would fully support that. I'm not really for cloning animals or plants, but not really against it either - if there is clear benefits for humanity, then OK. If we're just doing it for the heck of it, then no. I don't think full humans should be ever cloned, either to be allowed to live as regular members of society, or to be ripped up for parts.

A disturbing thought just came to me: If we can clone bits of tissue, like, say, human hearts or other muscles and organs, what do we do if cannibals want to order those parts and eat them? What do we say if no one was actually harmed in getting the parts, but it technically is still human flesh? Do we still keep it illegal on the ick factor alone?

Hmmm.....maybe it'smore that popular culure has horribly misinformed Americans. I'd say that in general Brits like and approve the idea of using scientific cloning to help cure disease.

What exactly do you mean by "scientific cloning to help cure disease"?
