"Colored only" sign posted above SUNY drinking fountain - a tragedy?

Source

I don't think anyone would defend the posting of the signs, but I thought a more important question was raised by this article: is the sign-posting a tragedy? A few of the definitions I pulled up for "tragedy" include: extremely mournful, melancholy, dreadful, calamitous, disastrous, or fatal.

Does the posting of these signs sound tragic? Why does this event justify a forum? Why the hypersensitivity over such nuisances? If the belligerents are caught, what should be done to them?
Round up all the rope in town, find a tall ol' tree, round up all of these bad boys and hang em high in the street, for the people to see!

That'd be some mighty strange fruit out there.

Does it contain tomato?

Only if it's a pizza!

On a side note, I was actually referencing this:
Spoiler :

Oh lol, for some reason I thought I was posting that in the thread on Pizza being a vegetable. Thanks for saying that though so I don't look like some crazy guy talking about vegetables.!

People use language slightly wrong all the time. Why this case warrants a thread and not the one when someone has said he was literally walking in the air?

What about the possibility that this was deliberate exaggeration? Maybe he meant to say that it's tragic that some people still have so much hate against coloured?
