Communism Is The Only Way Forward

Overall, the report shows over the past four decades, life expectancy climbed from 59 years to 70, school enrolment rose from 55 per cent of all primary and secondary school-age children to 70 per cent, and per capita GDP doubled to more than US$10,000 ($12,587).
UN HDI report

What a failure.

Capitalism is working as well as ever. There are roadbumps, but in the long term capitalism is the best way to go.

Um... you know, many countries had or have either a mixed system, a socialist or communist system? In fact, that's most of the world's population for most of the past 40 years, if I recall.

Capitalism is working as well as ever. There are roadbumps, but in the long term capitalism is the best way to go.

Or at least so far, it's shown progress. No matter how controversial or undesirable many of the steps along that road of progress are.

Now, another time, far in the future, we could argue socialism is the best way to go. And Communism some time after that.

But for now, capitalism is like democracy: it sucks but it's better than the alternatives at this juncture.

I was more having a go at this.

Capitalism has had its shot and failed.

I would disagree that socialism and communism is the best way to go. Taxes need to go up and the government, I think, needs to get a bit more involved in supplying basic needs to its citizens, but there is absolutely no reaso that we should want to change our economic system. I well and truly believe in (regulated, when necessary) markets.

So Social Democracy for you then?

Pancasila Democracy according to the 1945 Constitution is where its at. :smug:

Basically, lets throw everything good sounding in a pot and hopefully it'll suck less than being ruled by the Dutch!

Better dead than red is correct.

Besides, this was exactly what the people were saying during early-mid 20th century. So did communism work? No, it failed miserably, for the system that apeals the most to the inner instincts of mankind is capitalism.

So the first trial run failed miserably and discredited the entire ideology?
Refresh my memory about the first Liberal revolution in Europe. What was it called? Oh yeah, the English Civil War and the Protectorate. A perfect liberal state filled with such established liberal traditions as banning fun and persecuting Irish.
Is Liberalism to be discounted because the trial run failed miserably?

Meh, fair enough point.

So the first trial run failed miserably and discredited the entire ideology?
No, it failed in East Germany, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Albania, Yugoslavia, China, North Korea, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Angola, Mozambique, the Congo, Benin, Ethiopia, Cuba, and Nicaragua too.

Oh, and South Yemen. That failed too.

Until we can replicate goods from "nothing" then "communism" will not work. The United Earth example of government from Star Trek is the perfect example of a government. The only thing stopping us is nationalism and lack of technology.

No, it failed in East Germany, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Albania, Yugoslavia,
In all cases listed it was imposed on from above without people wanting or having any ways to reform it to suit their needs.

Being a liberal, industrialized, democracy is a prerequisite to Socialism and Communism. How many of those countries were liberal, industrialized democracies? This still applies to the former Soviet satalite states.

How many examples are there of Libertarianism being implemented long term that lead to a higher standard living without actions by unions or socialist inspired reform movements?
